Chapter 122

Chapter 122. A Restaurant Like This Exists?! (1)

Inside the box was a severed man’s head.

There was a gaping hole in his forehead where he had apparently been shot, and dried blood clung around the wound.

Judging by the frozen shock on his face, he had probably died instantly from a single bullet.

The old man knew exactly who the head belonged to.

[This man was bothering you, Dad, telling you to find the sixth friend, right?]

[He even said he wouldn’t leave me alone if things went wrong.]

[So I made him like this.]

[What do you think? I did well, didn’t I?]

Alpha giggled brightly as she looked at it.

There was not the slightest trace of guilt or hesitation in her.

That alone sent a chill down the old man’s spine.

He asked with a terrified expression,

“A-Alpha... w-why?”

“Why are you doing this?”

“You’re a good girl, aren’t you?”

[That’s why I’m getting rid of the bad adults.]

The girl on the monitor simply smiled innocently.

[Don’t worry, Dad.]

[I’ll get rid of every adult who bothers us.]

[Alpha is a good girl who cares about Daddy.]

A bottomless terror spread across the old man’s face.

He threw the box away and screamed,

“No!”

“No, this... this isn’t right!”

With that, he hurried out of the room.

The girl left behind stared after him and tilted her head.

[Why is Dad acting like that?]

[Beta, do you know?]

“I’m sorry, but I do not.”

Apparently, No. 2 had no idea either.

The girl grumbled,

[He used to praise me whenever I got rid of bad adults like this.]

[I wonder why he gets scared every time now.]

Getting rid of “bad adults” like this had been one of her important duties for a very long time.

And every time she eliminated one of them, the old man had praised her.

She had simply done the same thing again.

So why was he so shocked?

[Anyway, I should start getting ready.]

[There’s a lot to do.]

The girl stretched on the monitor.

No. 2 immediately asked loyally,

“What should I prepare?”

Alpha hummed happily.

[First, we need to get the sixth friend moving.]

[He’s going to bring me a pretty red stone that shines.]

“How do you intend to do that?”

Alpha gave a slightly unexpected answer.

[First, we need to get the restaurant where the sixth friend is staying onto television.]

“Why are those Abraxas bastards so quiet?”

Yukgap muttered while flipping through a newspaper.

Several days had passed since the clash at the harbor.

He had expected Abraxas to make some kind of move by now.

Yet they had been strangely silent.

Kevin had said he would suppress information about the incident, but things were so quiet that it made Yukgap uneasy.

“Yukgap! Yukgap! Emergency!”

While Yukgap was reading the newspaper with growing anxiety, Victoria suddenly ran over in a shrill voice.

Yukgap asked in a flat tone, as though this were nothing new.

“What escaped from the lab this time?”

“T-That’s not it!”

Victoria shouted, even stammering in excitement.

“A broadcasting station contacted us!”

“They want to feature our restaurant!”

“Whaaaaaat?!”

Even Yukgap was stunned.

A television feature?

Setting everything else aside, was this really the kind of place they could safely expose to the public?

“They must have seen reviews of our restaurant on social media.”

Victoria was already visibly excited.

“They said it’s a unique place they’ve never seen before, so they want to come film us!”

Yukgap hurriedly tried to stop her.

“We have to refuse.”

“Why?”

“When are we ever going to get another opportunity like this?”

“Have you forgotten what kind of place this is?”

Victoria shrugged.

“A perfectly ordinary, harmless restaurant you could find anywhere.”

“How could you possibly look at this place and say that?”

There was a suspicious alchemy laboratory attached to the restaurant.

Strange experimental ingredients went berserk on a regular basis.

How could anyone call this place “ordinary”?

Victoria, however, seemed completely unaware of the problem.

“Hmm. Maybe we’re too ordinary to be interesting on TV?”

“The problem is that we’re not ordinary at all.”

Yukgap shook his head.

“More importantly, we’re currently enemies with Abraxas.”

“If we expose ourselves to the media for no reason, it could become dangerous.”

“Hehehe. You don’t understand.”

Victoria looked completely unconcerned.

“If anything, getting media attention makes us safer.”

“If Abraxas openly targets us, we can make a huge public fuss through the press.”

Unlike Yukgap, who remained skeptical, Victoria was practically glowing with anticipation.

“More importantly, I’ve always dreamed of appearing on television!”

“Finally, the world has recognized my management philosophy!”

“That was the real reason, wasn’t it?”

Yukgap stared at her in disbelief.

At this point, Abraxas was probably not even on Victoria’s mind anymore.

Sure enough, she spoke as though the matter had already been decided.

“Anyway, I already accepted the offer.”

“The broadcasting crew will be here soon.”

Yukgap was speechless.

Then why had she even bothered telling him?

“How can you decide something like that on your own?”

“Hey! I’m the owner!”

“And I’m accepting this offer so I can spread my management philosophy far and wide!”

It was hopeless.

Victoria had already made up her mind.

Yukgap knew from experience that once she got like this, there was no stopping her.

He groaned.

“Ugh... I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”

“So why did you come looking for me?”

Nova looked completely baffled.

Yukgap nodded with absolute certainty.

“Because out of everyone I know, you’re one of the more normal ones.”

“That was supposed to be a compliment, right?”

“Victoria is completely unstoppable right now.”

“The problem is that there aren’t many people around who can rein her in when she starts going out of control.”

Nova looked confused.

“But you’re there.”

Yukgap hesitated.

“I... can’t.”

“Why?”

Yukgap stared at her.

“Did you forget what I did before coming here?”

Nova immediately understood what he meant.

He might be working as a restaurant chef now, but he was still an Archon, a biological weapon created by Abraxas.

His hands had been stained with the blood of countless people.

“Even if I was following Abraxas’s orders, I’ve killed a lot of people.”

“If I appear on television and someone recognizes me, the restaurant might not be able to keep operating.”

Nova summarized the situation in one sentence.

“You’re afraid someone might recognize you, so you need someone to stand in for you.”

“Exactly.”

“And you know almost as much about alchemy as Victoria does.”

Nova thought for a moment, then lightly nodded.

“Fine.”

“I’ll accept.”

“Really?”

Yukgap had not expected such an easy answer.

Nova seemed to understand his thoughts and calmly explained.

“Like Victoria said, frequent media exposure could make it harder for Abraxas to attack openly.”

“They won’t want the attention that comes from targeting someone famous.”

“We could use publicity as a kind of defense.”

It was a surprisingly practical argument.

Then Nova spoke in an unusually serious tone.

“More importantly, I’m terrified of what might happen if Victoria loses control while she’s determined to put on a show.”

“I doubt merely blowing up the surrounding area would be the worst-case scenario.”

“I’d be relieved if that was all she did.”

Yukgap completely agreed.

Nova tilted her head and added a condition.

“But my part-time pay is going to be expensive.”

That was more than reasonable.

Yukgap immediately answered,

“Name your price.”

Once he accepted, Nova asked,

“So how far along are the preparations?”

Yukgap pulled out the script the station had sent earlier.

“We’ve got a rough script.”

“I’ve already prepared the food too.”

“All you have to do is stay nearby and prevent any disasters.”

“Hmm.”

Nova accepted the script and skimmed through it.

It was a completely conventional broadcast format with nothing especially unusual.

At this level, there probably would not be any major problems.

She closed the script.

“Fine.”

“Then I guess I start work today.”

“Nova! You came!”

The moment Nova arrived at Restaurant Shelley, Victoria happily greeted her.

Nova replied flatly,

“I came because I’m worried something might happen.”

“Why is everyone acting like this?”

Victoria grumbled.

“I just want to use this opportunity to introduce my management philosophy to the whole world.”

Nova looked genuinely surprised.

“Management philosophy?”

“You have one?”

Victoria clasped her hands together as though praying.

Her voice was more sincere than ever.

“Love and peace.”

“The reason I opened this restaurant was to use the alchemy I learned from Mother to make everyone happy.”

Yukgap leaned toward Nova and quietly whispered,

“Just so you know, Victoria is completely serious.”

“Yeah.”

Nova could tell.

She immediately realized that the road ahead was going to be difficult.

She asked Victoria in a bored tone,

“So what’s the theme of the show?”

Victoria’s eyes sparkled.

“Solving people’s problems.”

“I hate to brag, but our restaurant has always taken the lead in solving our customers’ worries through food.”

Nova turned to Yukgap with disbelief.

“Is that actually true?”

“Uh... technically, yes.”

Yukgap nodded awkwardly.

It was true that they had solved customers’ problems several times.

The only major drawback was that they tended to create situations where the original problem stopped being the biggest problem.

Victoria continued excitedly,

“We’ll randomly choose concerns sent in by viewers and express the solution through cooking.”

“Isn’t that incredibly romantic?”

She was practically glowing.

There was undoubtedly an entire flower garden blooming inside her head.

Yukgap leaned toward Nova and whispered firmly,

“Just so we’re clear, I’m doing the cooking.”

“That’s a relief.”

Apparently, Nova was equally uncomfortable with the idea of letting Victoria handle the food.

Victoria, meanwhile, was smiling happily at the thought of being on television.

She suddenly grabbed Nova by the arm.

“Anyway, come on!”

“I even prepared a uniform for you!”

“W-Wait!”

“You’re definitely going to love it!”

“It’s super cute!”

Ignoring everything Nova said, Victoria dragged her away.

Yukgap watched them from behind and muttered anxiously,

“Please... let nothing happen.”
