Chapter 130

Chapter 130. Victoria’s Heart-Pounding Date (2)

[To Victoria Frankenstein.

I have watched you from afar for a long time.

This time, I finally gathered my courage and decided to write you this letter with a great dream in mind.

I hope we can spend some meaningful time together while discussing the bright future we may build together.

If it is all right with you, I would like to meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. at a nearby café.]

After reading the entire letter, Yukgap looked up with a baffled expression.

“What is this?”

Victoria answered proudly.

“What do you mean? It’s a love letter!”

“I knew that saju app was right!”

She seemed completely convinced that the letter was a romantic confession addressed to her.

Yukgap suddenly pressed his nose to the paper and began sniffing it.

Sniff, sniff.

“What are you doing?”

Victoria asked in horror.

After checking the scent several times, Yukgap tilted his head.

“I don’t smell any chemicals.”

“Of course not! Why would a letter smell like chemicals?”

“Hmm.”

Yukgap still looked deeply suspicious.

He held the letter out to Seryun, who happened to be nearby.

“What do you think?”

Seryun’s reaction was not much different.

“It looks so ordinary that it’s even more suspicious.”

“Exactly, right?”

Yukgap immediately called out with renewed conviction.

“Scrap metal!”

[Why did you call me?]

Yukgap pointed at the letter.

“Victoria got something she claims is a love letter.”

“Check it.”

Robert practically snatched the paper from Victoria’s hand.

His eyes flashed as he ran every function he had over it.

[Metal detection, possibility of bacterial contamination, radioactive attack, cipher hidden through an anagram, and 203 additional possibilities have been examined...]

[No abnormalities detected.]

Yukgap’s eyes narrowed.

“So it really is just a normal letter?”

[According to my analysis, yes.]

A completely harmless, ordinary letter.

And it had been sent to Victoria.

Faced with this unprecedented situation, Yukgap, Seryun, and Robert all muttered at once.

“Suspicious.”

“Suspicious indeed.”

[Suspicious.]

Victoria immediately snapped.

“What is?!”

Without even hesitating, Robert raised the letter and deployed his flamethrower.

[I will simply incinerate it.]

[Something this ominous should not remain near the Doctor.]

“Aaaaaah! Stop, Robert!”

Victoria shrieked, snatched the letter back, and hugged it protectively against her chest.

Then she glared at the others.

“How can you belittle a letter filled with someone’s precious feelings like that?”

“You shameless people!”

Yukgap answered firmly.

“Victoria, calm down and think about this.”

“No sane man would send you a love letter.”

“What is that supposed to mean?!”

Seryun and Robert immediately added their own opinions.

“There must be a trap or conspiracy involved.”

“Otherwise, no one would send a letter like this.”

[I agree.]

[There is definitely some scheme behind it.]

[It should be exterminated.]

Despite their unanimous suspicion, Victoria remained stubborn.

She hugged the letter against herself and spoke dreamily.

“What scheme?”

“He must have been watching me from afar all this time and finally gathered the courage to write.”

“I understand his shy feelings.”

“When a woman is too perfect, men often lose confidence around her.”

The others stared coldly.

“I don’t think that’s it.”

“I don’t believe that is the case.”

[I also think that is incorrect.]

Unable to endure their skepticism any longer, Victoria shouted,

“Enough!”

“What would cold-hearted people like you know?”

“I’m going to meet my destined partner tomorrow, and that’s final!”

“They say it’s sweeter than candy... like flying through the sky... I wonder what love feels like...”

After receiving the mysterious letter, Victoria spent every hour humming love songs with a dreamy expression.

Yukgap and Seryun watched her without much enthusiasm.

“It’s hopeless.”

“Victoria’s reason has already wandered into a flower garden.”

“Nobody can stop her when she’s like this.”

“Tch. Love.”

Seryun clicked his tongue.

Yukgap looked at him curiously.

“But you’ve been married before.”

“It was complete madness.”

“I still regret it.”

Seryun glanced toward him.

“Mr. Yukgap, didn’t I see a woman chasing after you rather enthusiastically before?”

He was clearly talking about No. 7.

Yukgap grimaced.

“That woman almost ripped out my spine and cut off all my limbs.”

“Women in love can be rather intense.”

Apparently, Seryun had some experience with that himself.

Robert beeped and joined the conversation.

[It is all foolishness.]

[As the vanguard of superior machine civilization, I find the reproduction instinct created by fleshbag hormones idiotic.]

The two men nodded in agreement.

“You’re right.”

“It’s all stupid.”

“I agree.”

While the three were pointlessly discussing love, Victoria approached in a flowing floral dress.

She showed off her outfit.

“What do you think of this?”

Yukgap answered without even looking properly.

“Yeah. Pretty.”

“Put some feeling into it!”

Victoria scolded him.

Seryun smiled pleasantly.

“Doctor, you look good in anything, so you needn’t worry.”

“Hmm.”

Victoria smiled brightly.

“The reaction from a formerly married man really is different.”

She continued grinning to herself.

Yukgap looked at her doubtfully.

“Victoria, are you really going?”

“I’m only meeting him.”

“He gathered the courage to approach me, so it would be polite for me to respond.”

“If I meet him and don’t like him, I’ll simply say goodbye.”

“But if I feel like it’s fate...”

“If you feel like it’s fate?”

Victoria’s face turned red.

She answered shyly,

“I might not come home tonight.”

“What are you talking about in an all-ages novel?!”

Victoria patted him reassuringly.

“Anyway, don’t worry.”

“I’m strong enough to deal with any man who has impure intentions toward me.”

“I’m not worried about you.”

Yukgap sighed.

“I’m worried about the man who has impure intentions toward you.”

She had once matched the speed and destructive power of an Archon.

If some foolish man tried getting handsy and Victoria hit him properly, a broken bone would probably be the least of his problems.

“Mother always used to say that a woman feels true happiness when she falls in love.”

Victoria clasped her hands and closed her eyes dreamily.

“Maybe I’m about to find real happiness.”

Yukgap had no idea exactly what her mother had told her.

But at least Victoria’s longing for love seemed genuine.

At this point, he could no longer bring himself to object.

“Fine.”

“Have a good time.”

“She’s going in!”

Yukgap whispered loudly as Victoria entered the café where she was supposed to meet her date.

Beside him, Seryun and Robert hid in the nearby bushes.

Seryun, who had been dragged along without much choice, flattened himself against the ground and complained.

“Do we really need to do this?”

“What if Victoria goes berserk in the worst-case scenario?”

Yukgap answered.

“We need to protect the innocent café and the man she’s meeting.”

“That makes sense.”

Seryun nodded.

Robert, who had followed them, scolded both men.

[Be quiet, fleshbags.]

[You are making surveillance difficult.]

His antenna stood rigidly upright as he focused on listening inside the café.

Yukgap asked skeptically,

“You can really hear them from here?”

[By observing vibrations in the window and calculating the resulting dynamics of the air, reconstructing their conversation is trivial for me.]

Before long, a man’s voice came through Robert’s speakers.

“...Hello, Victoria Frankenstein.”

“My name is Kim Yuhyeong. I’m the one who sent the letter.”

“Nice to meet you.”

Victoria sat across from the man with a shy smile.

“You’re the one who sent me the letter, right?”

The man introduced as Kim Yuhyeong was neatly dressed in a suit.

He recognized Victoria and greeted her politely.

“That’s correct.”

“It’s an honor to finally meet you.”

“The pleasure is mine.”

Victoria carefully sat down.

Her heart was pounding with anticipation and excitement, but she did her best not to show it.

Sure enough, Yuhyeong immediately began.

“Did you read the letter I sent?”

“Of course.”

“Then may I get straight to the point?”

Victoria was startled by his directness.

“Oh my.”

She had not expected him to get to the main topic only seconds after meeting her.

She did not dislike assertive men, but wasn’t this a little fast?

Apparently noticing her reaction, Yuhyeong asked,

“Is something wrong?”

“No.”

Victoria smiled awkwardly.

“I’m simply not used to someone being this direct.”

“Well, I suppose it isn’t easy to bring up the acquisition of a restaurant.”

Victoria’s expression froze.

“Excuse me?”

“Acquisition?”

Yuhyeong smiled calmly and began explaining.

“I’ve been watching Restaurant Shelley for quite some time.”

“It’s small, but the location is excellent.”

“And it’s obvious that the building itself has been carefully maintained.”

“Our company would like to acquire Restaurant Shelley and operate it as a franchise branch for a new restaurant brand we’re preparing to launch.”

“What?”

Yukgap stared in disbelief as he listened through Robert.

“So it wasn’t a love letter at all.”

“It was just a business acquisition proposal?”

Only then did Seryun and Robert nod in understanding.

“I thought the letter was rather wordy for a love letter.”

[The Doctor completely misunderstood it.]

The man named Yuhyeong continued talking about nothing but business.

There was not a trace of the romantic atmosphere Victoria had imagined.

Seryun cautiously asked,

“What should we do?”

Yukgap thought for a moment, then spoke with a hollow expression.

“Let’s withdraw.”

“And for Victoria’s sake, pretend we know absolutely nothing about this.”

“Of course, all existing employees would remain under the new ownership, and the maximum signing payment for the acquisition would be...”

“Haaaaaaaaah.”

Victoria let out a long sigh.

Yuhyeong noticed her dramatic reaction.

“Do you dislike the conditions?”

“Listen carefully.”

Instead of answering, Victoria clenched one fist and slammed it onto the table.

CRASH!

The wooden table split cleanly in half.

Yuhyeong swallowed a scream at the sight of her smashing it with one punch.

“Ghk!”

Victoria held up her fist and warned him.

“Restaurant Shelley is a precious inheritance my mother left me.”

“I have no intention of selling it to anyone.”

“If you bring this up in front of me again, it won’t end with just this.”

With that, Victoria gracefully stood from her seat.

“Goodbye.”

Yuhyeong could only blink in silence, too stunned to speak.

Ignoring him, Victoria called over a café employee.

“Excuse me!”

“Y-Yes?”

The employee looked terrified after witnessing Victoria’s sudden outburst.

Victoria handed over her card and spoke curtly.

“Please charge me for the coffee and the table.”

“One payment.”

“I’m back.”

A while later, Victoria trudged into Restaurant Shelley.

Yukgap, who was waiting as though absolutely nothing had happened, casually asked,

“How was the date?”

Victoria smiled awkwardly and shrugged.

“He seemed like a nice person.”

“But I don’t think he was the one.”

“Don’t be disappointed.”

Yukgap comforted her.

“Someone better will come along.”

Victoria clenched one fist with renewed determination.

“Exactly!”

“There’s still plenty of this year left.”

“My destined partner will definitely appear!”

Seryun quietly whispered,

“At least she doesn’t seem too discouraged.”

Yukgap grinned.

“That’s one of Victoria’s good points.”
