Chapter 152

Chapter 152. Family, and Family (1)

“Don’t call me by that name!”

“I already threw it away!”

The moment he heard his old codename, Yukgap shouted in anger.

His body swelled with a series of cracking sounds.

Yukgap fully released his beast form as well.

In an instant, he transformed into a massive cheetah standing on two legs.

Gripping a dagger in each hand, he rushed toward No. 2 at incredible speed.

“You still haven’t fixed that habit of blindly charging in while relying on speed.”

No. 2 calmly muttered as he swiftly avoided Yukgap’s attack.

The fact that his fighting style had been seen through immediately irritated Yukgap.

“Shut up!”

Yukgap raised his dagger and aimed for No. 2’s neck.

No. 2’s eyes flashed.

He grabbed Yukgap’s descending arm and twisted it sharply.

Yukgap had already been building up his acceleration.

Unable to withstand the sudden interruption, he lost his balance and staggered.

“Your acceleration ability is powerful.”

“But once you activate it, you have difficulty stopping.”

As No. 2 spoke, he flipped Yukgap over and slammed him hard into the floor.

A sharp pain shot through Yukgap’s spine.

“Ghk!”

No. 2 looked down at him coldly.

“I taught you how to fight.”

“I can see exactly what you’re going to do.”

“Hah... really?”

Yukgap sprang smoothly back to his feet.

“Then you should also know how stubborn I am.”

He leaped up as though nothing had happened, raised his daggers again, and faced No. 2.

No. 2 spoke flatly.

“Move.”

“Alpha wants Victoria Frankenstein.”

“There are no orders concerning you.”

“Can’t do that.”

Yukgap breathed heavily.

“Victoria is my owner.”

“Owner?”

No. 2 looked genuinely confused.

“Did we ever have such a thing?”

“At least I do.”

No. 2 was a weapon to his very bones.

He stood in a position commanding all the Archons.

Yukgap had never expected him to understand.

But one thing was certain.

He had to protect Victoria.

“Yukgap!”

“I hacked it!”

Victoria’s excited voice came from behind him.

Apparently, she had successfully hacked the emergency escape boat system.

Yukgap immediately brightened.

“Nice!”

The escape boat activated.

A passage leading toward the sea began opening.

The moment No. 2 saw it, hostility surged across his face.

“Grrrrrrrr...”

He growled low and bared his sharp fangs.

There was a predator’s relentless persistence in him.

He looked ready to capture them and drag them back to Alpha no matter what it took.

If they delayed any longer, the other Archons chasing them might catch up.

“Where are you looking?!”

Yukgap charged at No. 2, determined to buy time.

No. 2 frowned and quickly deflected the attacks coming at him.

“How many times must I say it?”

“I can see through every one of your attacks!”

“I am the Commander!”

“I was created to control all of you!”

Yukgap gradually increased the speed of his attacks.

“No. 2.”

“You were made to command all of us.”

“All your abilities are balanced around the middle.”

“Do you know what that means?”

“What are you trying to say?”

No. 2 asked, not understanding.

Yukgap practically screamed the answer.

“It means you’re average at everything!”

“You don’t have a single special ability!”

The hand holding Yukgap’s dagger began moving faster.

No. 2, who had been holding his ground, slowly started being pushed back.

“Ugh!”

“You’re not as strong in one-on-one combat as No. 3!”

“You’re not as good at fighting crowds as No. 4!”

“You’re not specialized in close combat like No. 5!”

“You’re not as cunning as No. 7!”

“And you can’t glide like No. 8!”

Yukgap’s blades drew strange curves as they came in without pause.

The attacks grew faster and faster until No. 2 could no longer block them properly.

His expression twisted.

“Th-This technique...!”

It was a technique No. 2 had never taught him.

Delicate.

Sharp.

And relentlessly persistent.

Four strikes per second.

Sixteen.

Thirty-two.

Sixty-four.

One hundred and twenty-eight.

Blades moving beyond the speed of sound crashed down on No. 2 like a violent storm.

“You’re not specialized for a particular environment like No. 9!”

“You’re not as tough as No. 10!”

“You don’t use your head like No. 11!”

“And you’re not huge like No. 12!”

“Aaaaaagh!”

No. 2 was completely swallowed by the barrage and screamed in pain.

Yukgap’s furious slashes carved wide arcs across his body.

Then Yukgap roared,

“So stop acting superior, you bland, flavorless lump of gray konjac!”

After being overwhelmed by the nonstop attacks, No. 2 collapsed to the floor covered in blood.

“Ghhh...”

Yukgap tightly gripped his bloodstained daggers and glared down at him.

“At least my knife skills didn’t come from you.”

“I trained them myself in the kitchen as a chef.”

No. 2 could barely recover from the storm of attacks that had torn through him.

Victoria seized the opportunity.

“Yukgap!”

“Let’s get out of here!”

“Got it!”

Breathing heavily, Yukgap quickly climbed onto the boat.

Victoria urgently asked,

“Can you drive this?”

“I’ve handled similar things a few times.”

“It shouldn’t be difficult.”

“More importantly, it has an automatic route-navigation system.”

“As long as I set the coordinates properly, we’re done.”

Yukgap skillfully operated the escape boat’s controls.

Victoria stared in admiration.

“That’s an incredible boat.”

“It was built with Abraxas technology.”

“This much is basic.”

The boat soon powered up.

The exit opened, revealing the rolling blue sea.

All they had to do now was escape.

“You’re not getting away!”

At that moment, the bloodied No. 2 quickly pulled a handgun from his waist.

He aimed directly at Victoria and pulled the trigger.

Bang!

A sharp gunshot split the air.

Yukgap reacted instinctively.

“Look out!”

The bullet tore through the air.

Yukgap quickly wrapped his arms around Victoria from behind.

No. 2’s bullet struck Yukgap’s shoulder.

Blood sprayed.

“Ghk!”

A horrifying pain pierced through his body.

Victoria spun around in shock.

“Yukgap!”

At that moment, a mechanical voice came from the escape boat’s control system.

[Route configuration complete.]

[Beginning coordinate transport.]

The boat surged forward, kicking up white foam.

Yukgap dropped down onto the floor of the boat, breathing heavily.

“I-I’m fine!”

But the wound was worse than he expected.

More importantly, the injury from the bullet was not regenerating.

Apparently, the gun No. 2 had fired was his overtechnology weapon.

“Hold on!”

“I’ll treat you as soon as we get back!”

Realizing how serious it was, Victoria hurriedly tried to reassure him.

Yukgap only sweated coldly and gave no reply.

As the boat carried them farther away, No. 2 remained behind and quietly muttered,

“...Alpha is going to be angry.”

“Ugh...”

Nova opened her eyes through the haze of medication.

Objects and medicine bottles were scattered everywhere around her.

Apparently, her headache had caused another disturbance without her realizing it.

“Is the medicine finally starting to lose its effect?”

Nova gave a bitter smile and walked outside.

Right now, she felt like she needed some fresh air just to clear her head.

The scenery outside was peaceful in stark contrast to her suffering.

The sunlight was warm.

Birds chirped.

A gentle breeze brushed against her face.

Everything was wonderful.

Except for her situation.

“Phew.”

Nova let out a short sigh.

Even now, her brain continued growing at an explosive rate.

She had already passed the point where medication could properly suppress it.

The headaches were also coming more and more frequently.

Writhing in pain until she lost consciousness had long since become part of her daily routine.

At this point, I almost wish it would all just end quickly.

That was the only wish she could bring herself to have anymore.

“Hm?”

“What’s that?”

Then she spotted two familiar figures in the distance.

Victoria and Yukgap.

The only unusual thing was that Yukgap had released his Archon form and was bleeding heavily, while Victoria was supporting him in an elaborate princess-style dress.

“Victoria?”

“What happened to you?”

Nova hurriedly asked.

The moment Victoria saw her, she raised her voice.

“Nova, please!”

“We need your help!”

“How are you feeling?”

Nova quietly asked Victoria.

Victoria forced a smile.

“I’m fine.”

Nova let out a long sigh.

“I thought something had happened because Restaurant Shelley was closed.”

“So that’s what happened.”

After escaping from Abraxas, Victoria and Yukgap had headed to the Herrington Convent.

Fortunately, Nova and the sisters of the Herrington Order had taken them in.

“Sorry.”

“I couldn’t think of anywhere else to go besides the Herrington Convent.”

“It was probably better than running somewhere random.”

“This place at least has defensive systems.”

Nova muttered with a sigh.

“Still, going all the way into Abraxas’s headquarters and making it back alive...”

“You really are something.”

Victoria shrugged.

“I got lucky.”

Nova looked her up and down.

“By the way... what are you wearing?”

For some inexplicable reason, Victoria had arrived at the Herrington Convent dressed in an ornate princess gown straight out of a fairy tale.

Victoria let out a long sigh.

“That’s a long story.”

“I went there and ended up playing princess for a while.”

“You played princess... inside Abraxas’s headquarters?”

Nova stared at her as though she could not understand a word.

But that was not important right now.

Victoria pleaded desperately,

“Please help Yukgap.”

“For some reason, he hasn’t been able to regenerate since he was shot.”
