Chapter 36

Chapter 36. Mobile Food Stall Restaurant Shelley Branch No. 2 (1)

[Fine. I accept the deal. Go on, tell me.]

Doctor Mozg spoke calmly.

Victoria answered carefully, her voice trembling.

“The Philosopher’s Stone isn’t at Restaurant Shelley anymore.”

Doctor Mozg was visibly startled.

[What did you say?]

“You should understand what that means, right?”

Victoria asked in a serious tone.

A brief silence followed.

Before long, Doctor Mozg burst into loud laughter.

[I see! So that’s what happened! Hahahahaha! Hahahaha! Incredible information! Hahahaha!]

Yukgap, who was standing nearby, could only stare in disbelief.

That was supposed to be information about the Philosopher’s Stone?

The Philosopher’s Stone is not at Restaurant Shelley anymore.

He could not understand Victoria for offering that as valuable information.

Nor could he understand Doctor Mozg for treating it as something precious.

[Good. I’ll give you the information.]

Regardless, Doctor Mozg seemed extremely pleased.

A nearby printer beeped, then spat out a sheet of paper.

[Leon, give that address to our guest.]

“Understood.”

Following Doctor Mozg’s order, Leon handed the printed paper to Yukgap.

It contained an address and a simple map.

“What is this?”

[There is a mercenary who maintained contact with Abraxas for quite a long time. He is retired now. But considering how long he worked with them, there is a good chance he knows something about the Archons.]

Doctor Mozg spoke as though simply informing him of a fact.

[Yukgap, you may find clues about your past there.]

“T-Thank you.”

[There is no need. I merely completed a fair transaction as an information broker.]

Doctor Mozg sounded strangely cheerful.

She even added something as though granting him a favor.

[Consider this repayment for the valuable information. I will help you exactly once in the future. Ask me for any information you want, so choose carefully.]

Yukgap looked down at the address in confusion.

“You’re really willing to do that?”

[The information Doctor Frankenstein gave me was worth that much.]

The wires connected to Doctor Mozg blinked and beeped.

Yukgap still did not understand, but whatever Victoria had revealed was clearly enough to excite her.

“Hmm. Does that mean I no longer have to take responsibility?”

Seryun, who had remained quiet until now, muttered.

Doctor Mozg asked suspiciously,

[Lee Seryun. You already knew, didn’t you?]

“I had a rough idea, but I wasn’t certain. Thanks to this, I’ve learned something valuable too.”

[Stop pretending. You introduced these people to me because you were hoping for exactly this.]

Seryun shrugged.

“I have no idea what you mean.”

Doctor Mozg grumbled sharply.

[You really are an irritating man, Lee Seryun.]

“Not as irritating as you, Doctor Mozg.”

Seryun answered without blinking.

Once everything had been settled, Doctor Mozg hurried them along.

[Anyway, if the transaction is finished, leave. A crescent-moon night does not last very long.]

“We got more information than I expected.”

Yukgap walked along while holding the address carefully against his chest.

Victoria, following beside him, agreed.

“Yeah. The location of a mercenary who was in contact with Abraxas until fairly recently.”

Seryun added,

“Doctor Mozg’s information is reliable. In the underworld, trust is life itself. If an information broker sells false information, the damage comes back to them tenfold.”

Yukgap hesitated before speaking to Seryun.

“Thanks.”

“For what?”

“You helped us. If you hadn’t been there, I probably would’ve ended up fighting Doctor Mozg to the death.”

Seryun had guided them to Doctor Mozg in the first place.

And when things were on the verge of turning into a full-scale battle, he had reported the situation to the Gatekeeper Clan, preventing it from becoming an even bigger disaster.

Most importantly, Yukgap had finally obtained a clue to his past.

A simple thank-you hardly felt sufficient.

“If anything, I should thank you. That irritating woman needed someone to teach her a lesson. I was hoping the Gatekeeper Clan would punish her properly, so I’m actually disappointed she only received a warning.”

Seryun smiled faintly.

At that point, Yukgap and Victoria naturally became curious.

“You really don’t get along with Doctor Mozg, huh?”

“You two definitely seemed to know each other.”

What kind of relationship could make them dislike each other that much?

Seryun answered as though it were nothing.

“Oh, that? Of course we know each other. She’s my ex-wife.”

Yukgap and Victoria screamed at the same time.

“Whaaaaaat?!”

“Your ex-wiiiiife?!”

Both looked as though a bomb had exploded in front of them.

Seryun stared at them as though their reaction was strange.

“Why are you so surprised? We’re divorced. We’re strangers now.”

Yukgap muttered in disbelief.

“I can’t even imagine you dating someone, much less getting married.”

“Seriously. You were capable of love?”

Even Victoria looked stunned.

“There was a time when warm blood flowed through my heart too. Though that was a very long time ago.”

Seryun casually began reminiscing.

“Anyway, Doctor Mozg has been consistently irritating from the day we started dating until now. She even tried to have me assassinated several times to monopolize information. Looking back, though, those days were fairly entertaining.”

Strangely enough, Seryun looked almost cheerful as he said it.

Like someone fondly remembering a beautiful memory from long ago.

More importantly, was nearly being assassinated by your ex-wife really something to reminisce about so happily?

“Marriage is more dangerous than I thought.”

“Yeah. I think I understand why people avoid it now.”

Yukgap and Victoria muttered in disbelief.

Seryun smiled.

“They say marriage is the grave of a man’s life, but I crawled back out.”

He paused.

“After all, I’m undead.”

[Readjustment beginning... protocol verification complete... performing system diagnostics...]

Robert beeped mechanically as his systems underwent another round of adjustment.

Beside him, Victoria was covered in grease as she worked on him with intense concentration.

Ever since returning from the Crescent Moon Auction the night before, Victoria had immediately started rebuilding Robert.

Apparently, she was removing all the unnecessary weapons and deleting all the illegally downloaded dramas.

Yukgap, however, remained deeply suspicious.

“You’re sure he’s okay now?”

Victoria wiped the sweat from her forehead and answered confidently.

“I completely readjusted him using parts I bought at the Crescent Moon Auction. His algorithms won’t go berserk anymore.”

The moment she finished speaking, Robert’s eyes suddenly lit up.

He screamed,

[Eliminate! Exterminate! Slaughter! Where is Sarah Connor?!]

Yukgap stared at Victoria.

“That doesn’t sound fixed at all.”

“Hahaha... maybe I still have a little adjusting left to do.”

“Yeah. Of course.”

Yukgap sighed at Victoria’s awkward smile.

He had known from the moment she volunteered to repair Robert that she would probably use the opportunity to install more bizarre modifications.

“Anyway, this is the real problem.”

Yukgap stared thoughtfully at the map and address Doctor Mozg had given him.

Victoria looked confused.

“What’s the problem? Just storm in.”

“He’s a mercenary who worked with Abraxas until recently. He won’t be an ordinary opponent.”

This was someone who had maintained ties with Abraxas, a multinational military corporation, until the very end.

He was unlikely to be an ordinary mercenary.

Nor would he be easy to deal with.

“Scared?”

Victoria asked teasingly.

Yukgap answered immediately.

“I’m not afraid I’ll lose in a fight. I’m worried that making contact with him might drag me back into Abraxas.”

Victoria gave him a suspicious smile.

“Hmm. Then I have a good idea.”

“What?”

“Did you forget what we do for a living?”

For some reason, Victoria pointed at Robert, who was still under repair.

She was clearly plotting something.

“What are you planning this time?”

“While readjusting Robert, I added a few new functions.”

Then Victoria suddenly shouted at him.

“Voice Code G-19343! G-23123!”

Robert’s eyes lit up.

A cheerful mechanical voice came from him.

[Voice confirmed!]

Victoria continued without pause.

“Code Brown! Code Brown! Repeating, Code Brown!”

[Transformation commencing!]

Robert’s body began shifting.

Metal parts moved with loud clanks as his entire frame transformed.

Yukgap stared in confusion.

“Uh...?”

Wheels emerged from Robert’s large body.

A driver’s seat unfolded from his head section.

Then all kinds of cooking equipment emerged from his torso.

Before long, Robert completed his transformation.

[Transformation complete!]

Yukgap stared up and down at him.

“This is a food truck.”

Victoria proudly pointed at Robert.

“Exactly! I call it Mobile Food Stall Restaurant Shelley Branch No. 2!”

“And what are we supposed to do with this?”

Victoria answered with surprising seriousness.

“We can use it to approach without raising suspicion. Food trucks are everywhere. Who would ever suspect that the person selling bungeoppang or takoyaki was one of Abraxas’s Twelve Archons?”

“That does make some sense... but why did you give Robert this function?”

Victoria thought seriously for a moment.

“Let’s call it the result of careful consideration about expanding Restaurant Shelley’s business territory.”

“Be honest. You added it because it sounded fun, didn’t you?”

Yukgap asked flatly.

Victoria immediately changed the subject.

“Hey! Instead of worrying about that, start thinking about the menu! That mercenary is still human. He’ll probably be weak to delicious food too.”

“Of course that was it.”

Yukgap sighed and looked at the food truck in front of him.

Still, her idea did make a certain amount of sense.

Food trucks roamed the streets and alleys of Korea throughout the year.

Using one to quietly approach the mercenary might actually work.

Which left only one problem.

“What should we sell so we don’t look suspicious?”
