Chapter 14

Chapter 14. Jing Ke Attempts to Assassinate the King of Qin (2)

“Stop right there, you bastards! Hand over Jang Gal's head!!”

Jang Gal's subordinates frowned when they noticed Yeonhwa chasing them.

“The Deputy Leader of the Black Blood Unit.”

“Return to the main camp quickly. Getting involved with that crazy woman will only cause trouble.”

Yeonhwa's lightness skill was faster than theirs.

However, an enormous sandstorm would soon arrive.

They were confident they could avoid capture until then.

That confidence was reasonable.

After crossing the ridge, the approaching storm was already visible to the naked eye.

But there was one thing they had failed to include in their calculations.

Bi Anso's bow.

“Aaaaaagh!!”

The man who screamed was at the very back.

An arrow had struck his calf, causing him to fall.

Only then did Jang Gal's subordinates realize Bi Anso was there.

“Damn it! Kill the man who was hit!”

If he were taken prisoner, there was a high risk that he would reveal the location of their main camp.

Therefore, the leader immediately threw a throwing knife into the center of his fallen subordinate's forehead.

His judgment was fast.

His action was precise.

But Bi Anso did not miss the brief opening created when he killed his own man.

“Upper two, right one.”

Three arrows left the bowstring at once and cut through the air.

Second Technique of the Bow of No Homeland, Three Wolves Leave the Path.

The three arrows flew along different paths.

Each one buried itself into the calf of a different target.

He hit three of my men from that distance?!

The leader could not hide his shock.

The archer was more than three li away.

He was so distant that the man's shape barely appeared through the shimmering heat.

The only famous master archer in the Cult is the Thousand Arrows Demon Venerable!

Did he take a disciple in his old age?!

“Forget the formation! Everyone run at full speed! Hold nothing back!”

Very few martial artists in the martial world used bows.

Many did not even consider archery a true martial art.

Because of that, anyone who became famous through the bow could safely be considered a master who had surpassed ordinary people.

Bi Anso was not a famous master archer known throughout the world.

But his archery was in no way inferior to those masters.

The storm is getting closer.

The wind is becoming chaotic.

Six enemies remain.

The one in front is their leader.

Then he is the only one I need to capture.

The leader threw knives and killed the three subordinates who had been shot.

Then he fled at full speed.

Bi Anso aimed his bow at him.

“I wonder if you’ll remain as calm when you are the one struck by an arrow.”

Still aiming his bow, Bi Anso sprinted across the sand dune.

Then he leaped high into the air.

“Lower two, left one.”

Release.

The arrow fell like a comet.

It pierced through the chaotic wind and buried itself in the leader's thigh.

“Aaaaaagh! You damned bastard!”

The leader immediately ripped the arrow from his thigh.

The movement tore away flesh and caused terrible pain.

But he had no time to scream.

His fear of the arrows flying from the distance completely overwhelmed the pain.

Damn it! The storm will be dangerous, but once it arrives I can shake them off...!

“You run well, you insolent bastard!!”

Boom!

Yeonhwa had already caught up.

After cutting down the remaining subordinates in a single rush, she grabbed the leader and slammed him into the ground.

If the ground had been solid stone rather than sand, the impact probably would have ruptured all his organs.

“Kugh!!”

“Kukuk. You had no problem killing your fallen subordinates, but now that it’s your turn, you hesitate?”

The leader tried to bite down on a poison pill hidden behind one of his molars.

But Yeonhwa shoved her hand into his mouth.

Then she tore the poison pill out together with the tooth hiding it.

“Aaaaaagh!!”

“Do you think I don’t know your tricks? Tell me where Jang Gal is hiding!”

“Kukuk. Deputy Leader Yeonhwa of the Black Blood Unit. The Demon Lord told me about you.”

“Shut up! Before I pull out every remaining tooth in your mouth!”

“Your little sister was apparently quite entertaining to play with. Unlike a rough bitch like you...”

Yeonhwa slammed her fist into the leader's face.

He lost consciousness from the first blow.

But her fists did not stop.

“You damned bastard! I’ll kill you!”

“Deputy Leader, stop!”

Bi Anso rushed forward and forcibly pulled Yeonhwa away.

They could not allow the valuable prisoner they had finally captured to die.

But Yeonhwa was so enraged that she even reached for the saber on her back.

“Are you planning to kill the only man who knows Jang Gal's location?!”

“Move! Unless you want to die too!”

“If you kill this man, we can’t find Jang Gal.”

“Then I can’t earn my achievement!”

Bi Anso aimed his bow at Yeonhwa.

“If you interfere with me, Deputy Leader, you’ll die today too.”

“For reference, I’ve never been good at holding back once I decide to kill someone.”

Yeonhwa and Bi Anso stared at each other with killing intent.

A short while later, Yeonhwa finally recovered enough reason to put her saber away.

“...Let’s avoid the storm first. Tie that bastard up.”

“Agreed.”

“There is a large boulder not far from here. There’s enough space beneath it to hide.”

Bi Anso tightly tied the unconscious prisoner's legs with rope.

Then he and Yeonhwa dragged the man away.

The storm was larger and more violent than expected.

However, by sunset, it began to weaken.

Soon, the desert became so quiet that it was difficult to believe a storm had ever passed through.

“Where did you learn archery?”

“Why are you suddenly asking?”

Honestly, I was surprised.

Since capturing the prisoner, the Deputy Leader had remained almost completely silent.

“Your archery doesn’t seem bad. Why? Will you get sick if I ask?”

“I can’t tell you. I probably would.”

“What an annoyingly secretive lunatic. What are you doing now?”

“Preparing for torture. Once the prisoner wakes up, we have information to extract.”

By the way, is Jang Gal's subordinate actually dead?

How hard did she hit him? He still hasn’t opened his eyes.

“You know how to torture people?”

“There isn’t much to torture. You hurt someone until they open their mouth.”

“Though I do have a few personal techniques.”

“Really? Can you teach me those techniques?”

“For free? You’re greedy.”

“It isn’t even martial arts. Will teaching me really hurt you?”

“As I already said, yes. It probably will.”

“Damn it. Stingy bastard!”

Hmm.

Maybe this was a good chance to ask something I was curious about.

“Is there someone you particularly want to make suffer?”

“Obviously that bastard Jang Gal.”

“What kind of grudge do you have against him?”

“None of your business.”

“Tell me, and I’ll teach you torture techniques.”

“Hmph. How impressive could your techniques possibly be? Get lost.”

“I know a method for skinning someone while keeping them alive as long as possible.”

Only then did the Deputy Leader's eyes light up.

“That sounds interesting. You really know a technique like that?”

“Do I look like someone who lies all the time?”

The Deputy Leader hesitated for a while.

Then she finally spoke.

“I had a little sister.”

“When we were young, our damned parents sold her to a Demonic Clan as a servant.”

“For one sack of rice.”

Selling one's child for a sack of rice was not uncommon among people living at the very bottom.

Apparently, the Demonic Cult was no different.

People were miserable everywhere.

“That family had twin young masters.”

“Those bastards were famous even inside the Cult for being complete pieces of garbage.”

“They were experts at tormenting servants.”

“Then your sister...”

“One day, the corpse of a maid was thrown naked into the market.”

“All four of her limbs had been cut off.”

“Apparently, she tried to escape because she couldn’t endure her masters' abuse and got caught.”

“...”

“Later, a coroner told me the limbs seemed to have been cut off while she was alive.”

“She died because she couldn’t endure the pain.”

The Deputy Leader clenched her fist.

She squeezed so hard that her joints cracked.

“The family name of the bastards who cut off my little sister's limbs and threw her into the market was Jang.”

“Jang Gal was one of those brothers?”

“Yes. Jang Gal is the older brother.”

“The younger one already died by my hands.”

Could the superior she had killed have been...

“You figured it out?”

“Kukuk. I deliberately joined the younger brother's unit so I could kill him.”

“That is a heavier story than I expected.”

“I will never forgive that bastard Jang Gal.”

“I’ll make him suffer so badly that he regrets ever being born, then I’ll kill him.”

Revenge was not mourning for the dead.

It was the smallest knot the living could tie so they could continue living.

Unfinished revenge remained tangled inside the heart forever.

“Satisfied? Then keep your promise and teach me that skinning technique.”

“Don’t worry. Torture happens to be another one of my specialties.”

At that moment, the prisoner suddenly opened his eyes.

The instant he woke, he struggled desperately to escape.

Naturally, I had expected that and already tied him securely with rope.

“L, let me go! Do you think you’ll survive after doing this?!”

Do prisoners all receive the same script?

Why does every captured bastard say exactly the same thing?

“The Demon Lord will never forgive you! If you release me now and run, he may spare your...”

I shoved a gag into his mouth.

Much quieter.

“You even carry a gag?”

“It is an essential torture tool. You can’t let the target bite off their own tongue.”

I opened a bag filled with various torture tools.

The Deputy Leader's eyes sparkled.

Apparently, she was interested.

“Whoa. What are all these? I’ve never seen many of these tools before.”

“Want them?”

“Enough that I’d pay money.”

“Hold this. I’ll explain how it works, and you can perform the torture yourself.”

“Me? I’ve never done this before.”

“Don’t you need practice before you torture Jang Gal?”

“You’ll be rather upset if you accidentally kill him halfway through.”

“...That is true.”

The Deputy Leader carefully picked up one of my torture tools and licked her lips.

Interesting.

Her grip was pretty good.

I could see traces of talent.

“Mmph! Mmmph!”

The prisoner desperately tried to say something.

But because of the gag, I could not understand him.

Was he trying to reveal the location of their main camp?

If so, there would be no need to torture him.

“Deputy Leader, first let’s hear what this man is trying to...”

Oops.

The Deputy Leader's eyes were already filled with expectation.

If I said we should delay the torture now, she would clearly be disappointed.

What should I do?

Torture was best learned through practical experience.

But if this man intended to reveal the main camp's location, there was no real need to torture him.

Should I take out the coin?

“Deputy Leader. Heads or tails?”

“What? What are we deciding now?”

“Just choose one.”

“Heads.”

Spin.

Tap.

Heads.

“Good. Let’s start with the torture.”

“Kahahaha! Good!”

Normally, we should first ask for the information we needed and then begin torture if necessary.

But what could I do?

The coin landed on heads.

The prisoner shook violently in fear.

Poor bastard.

If it had landed on tails, he could have gone without suffering.

Well, what could he do?

That was his fate.

The Deputy Leader began the torture according to my instructions.

Even through the gag, terrible screams leaked out.

“Stop there. If you cut any deeper, the target might die from the pain.”

“Really? Then what if I burn this part instead?”

“I teach you one thing and you understand ten. Deputy Leader, your talent is incredible.”

“Really?”

Amid the prisoner's pain and screams, a friendship between the Deputy Leader and me slowly began to bloom.
