Chapter 27

I Became the Loan Shark Queen’s Grandson!

Chapter 27

Seoul, Yeongdeungpo.

The lawyer’s office.

A thick case file lay on the conference table.

A laptop, case-law books, and pens had been neatly arranged beside it.

The lawyer calmly pushed documents toward me.

“Client, the opening of the inheritance has been officially notified.”

A death certificate and court notice lay together on top.

I held the papers down and took a breath.

Then nodded.

“So now the real fight begins.”

My chest felt heavy.

But my determination didn’t waver.

Uncle Kim Dong-su asked in surprise,

“You mean the formal inheritance procedure has begun?”

“Yes. Now we need to proceed with a lawsuit for the reserved share of inheritance.”

My voice was calm.

But firm.

I immediately looked at the lawyer.

“This isn’t my personal matter. I’m pursuing this on behalf of debtor Han Mi-suk and her husband. We need to protect their rights.”

The provisional seizure had bought us time.

But in the end, we still needed a judgment to protect the assets.

I spoke to the lawyer again.

“Submit the full list of inherited assets. Farmland, buildings, cash, deposits. Nothing can be missing. We also need to find whatever the eldest son has hidden.”

The lawyer nodded.

“Yes. In particular, we’ll preserve the recent attempted transfers by the eldest son as evidence.”

“Also file for disclosure of property. If the court orders the eldest son to provide a complete list of his assets, any false statement becomes a serious problem.”

The lawyer continued taking notes.

“We’ll proceed with asset disclosure, document-production orders, and requests for factual inquiry. We’ll also obtain bank-account information and real estate records.”

I nodded.

“Send factual inquiry requests to the financial institutions and judicial scrivener offices too. If possible, obtain even the records of visits from the last month. Small traces can become evidence.”

Kim Dong-su carefully spoke.

“Taesan, this won’t be easy. The other side is the eldest son. He may have been preparing for this for a long time.”

I smiled softly.

“Uncle, don’t worry. In court, evidence eventually becomes everything. As long as we don’t make mistakes, we can win.”

Kim Dong-su still looked concerned.

“But the eldest son has held power in the family for years. He’s probably gathered plenty of people around him.”

“That’ll make him even more impatient. We only need to respond with facts. There’s no reason to become emotional.”

The lawyer continued.

“Their legal team is large, and they’ll likely use financial-sector connections. But we have our own strategy. We’ll move first and block them.”

“Then notify the prosecution too. Hiding inherited assets can become a criminal matter. We should prepare a criminal complaint as well.”

The lawyer immediately answered.

“Yes. I’ll prepare a draft complaint too.”

The conference room fell quiet for a moment.

I calmly turned through the papers.

The battle had already started.

I looked at Kim Dong-su.

“Uncle, instead of appearing in court, write down everything you personally witnessed. Organize exactly how the eldest son tried to take control of the assets.”

Kim Dong-su nodded.

“Yes. I’ll record everything I saw. I can’t just ignore what they did against the deceased’s rights.”

I answered briefly.

“That alone will be a great help.”

The lawyer took out another document.

“Client, we also applied to inspect the real estate registry. We’ll soon know whether any assets recently disappeared.”

I closed the file.

“Good. Even if the other side moves first, they eventually won’t withstand the evidence. Let’s prepare step by step.”

There was unwavering confidence in my voice.

This was a fight we couldn’t avoid.

And one we had to win.

The meeting continued for more than an hour.

The lawyer explained each strategy in detail.

Kim Dong-su wrote down every fact he could remember.

Then he asked again,

“Taesan, what happens if the eldest son hides documents or delays submitting them?”

“That can happen.”

I answered calmly.

“That’s exactly why we move first. Track bank accounts, secure tax-office records, and obtain real estate-transfer histories. Once we gather evidence they can’t hide, they won’t be able to endure.”

The lawyer nodded.

“Yes. We’ll prepare financial records, tax filings, and real estate-transfer records. Once submitted to court, they can be used as evidence.”

I spoke one final time.

“Don’t waver. Prepare to the end. No matter what pressure comes, respond only with facts.”

The building housing the Yeongdeungpo private lending office.

Kim Dong-su and I climbed the stairs and stopped in front of the international marriage brokerage office.

Across the corridor was Jo Sun-ja’s lending office.

On the opposite side, a brand-new sign had just been installed.

[International Marriage Brokerage]

The old hallway made the new sign look especially bright.

When I opened the door, the smell of fresh paint remained inside.

There were only two desks, a telephone, and a few filing cabinets.

It was a small office.

Inside, Vietnamese woman Lin stood and bowed.

“Welcome.”

Her Korean pronunciation was clear.

But there was nervousness in her voice.

I smiled and stood beside Kim Dong-su.

“Ms. Lin, starting today, Uncle is the president of this office. Just think of me as someone from next door who stops by often.”

Kim Dong-su looked at me in shock.

“Me? I’m the president?”

“Yes. You’re the president. I’m just someone helping from the side.”

Lin looked at Kim Dong-su.

Then quickly bowed.

“Understood. President, I look forward to working with you.”

I joked,

“Just don’t spend all your time dating when I’m not here.”

Lin’s face turned red.

Kim Dong-su also flushed and quickly waved his hands.

“What are you talking about? That’s embarrassing.”

I laughed and sat down.

“I’m joking. Still, Uncle is the president and Ms. Lin is a manager, so this office should have a family-like atmosphere.”

Lin smiled shyly.

The laughter softened the tension in the small room.

At that moment, the door opened.

Jang Do-chan and Jo Gyeong-cheol came inside.

Their old rough appearance was gone.

Both wore neat suits and polished shoes.

“Manager, greetings.”

“We look forward to working with you.”

I pointed to them.

“You two are official employees now. Keep dressing like this and move confidently wherever you go.”

Kim Dong-su looked over the two men and nodded.

Lin stared at them in surprise before quickly fixing her expression.

“President, first take Ms. Lin to a photo studio. We need profile photographs. A suit, traditional clothing, and half-body shots should be enough.”

“Yes, understood.”

When Kim Dong-su answered, Lin looked at me.

“Ms. Lin, you’re now our Vietnamese interpretation manager. Make sure you wear an ao dai for the shoot. You’ll be the face of this office.”

Lin blushed and nodded.

“Yes, understood.”

I called Jang Do-chan.

“Once the photos are ready, use them to make business-card-sized flyers. And prepare a standing signboard to put outside the building.”

“Yes. I’ll do it immediately.”

Just as everything settled down, the door opened again.

A woman who looked to be in her mid-thirties entered.

She wasn’t a flashy beauty.

But her eyes were strong and she had a strange charm.

“Ms. Lee Seon-hwa, you’re here.”

She asked in surprise,

“How do you know me?”

“I checked the lending-office ledger. You borrowed money for your son’s heart surgery.”

Surprise and shame mixed across Lee Seon-hwa’s face.

Her voice trembled quietly.

“Yes, that’s right. I still haven’t repaid all of it.”

I nodded.

“I also saw that you’re an ethnic Korean from Yanbian. You graduated from Yanji University, right?”

Lee Seon-hwa widened her eyes.

“How did you know that?”

“It was in the lending-office ledger. We needed someone responsible for Chinese interpretation, so this works out perfectly. Starting today, you’ll be our China Interpretation Manager.”

Lee Seon-hwa took a moment to breathe.

Then answered in a voice carrying a Yanbian accent.

“Ah... thank you. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity. I’ll work hard.”

Everyone in the office smiled.

Her unfamiliar accent actually softened the atmosphere.

Lin still seemed awkward about being called “Manager.”

But she soon nodded and showed Lee Seon-hwa to a seat.

That day, inside the building housing the Yeongdeungpo private lending office, the international marriage brokerage officially began operations.

Vietnam Interpretation Manager, Lin.

China Interpretation Manager, Lee Seon-hwa.

Official employees, Jang Do-chan and Jo Gyeong-cheol.

Kim Dong-su sat as president.

And I stood beside them, setting the direction.

The small office was no longer merely a brokerage.

It had become a stage that would lead into much larger businesses.

I made a promise to myself.

First, Chinese real estate and stock investments.

Then Vietnamese real estate.

The real beginning was here.

A coffee shop in Yeongdeungpo.

Several cups and document envelopes sat on a table by the window.

Kim So-jeong opened her notebook.

“The eldest son went to the judicial scrivener’s office again yesterday. This time, it looked like he was trying to finalize inheritance division using the will.”

The investigation agency owner crushed his cigarette into the ashtray.

“But there’s something even funnier. When we followed the Pangyo family’s money flow, we discovered the eldest son recently siphoned off a huge amount. Not only land. He touched the deposits too.”

I briefly closed my eyes.

Then slowly nodded.

“Good. That is exactly the key point we need for the reserved-share lawsuit.”

I lightly tapped the table.

“No matter how much the Pangyo family tries to move property away, the legally protected reserved share is still recognized. If they stole someone’s portion, they have to return it.”

Kim So-jeong raised the corner of her mouth.

“So this really is a legal battle, not an emotional one. The law only looks at documents.”

I laughed briefly.

“Exactly. That’s why we’re preparing documents. Family registry, birth reports, family relationship records, hospital diagnoses, and soon the DNA test. We’ll secure all of it.”

Uncle Kim Dong-su carefully asked,

“Taesan, what happens if the test from Japan shows the eldest son isn’t the father’s biological child?”

I slowly smiled.

“Then this stops being only a reserved-share lawsuit. We add a lawsuit to confirm the absence of a biological parent-child relationship. The Pangyo family will split apart the moment that happens.”

The investigation agency owner nodded.

“How are we securing the evidence?”

“We already obtained notarized copies of the hospital records. The photographs are ready too.”

Kim So-jeong handed me an envelope.

“And we also obtained the route records showing the eldest son brought in a notary the night before the funeral. We have a copy of the building-entry log and even CCTV footage.”

I took the envelope and put it in my bag.

“Good. They’ll push with emotion and rumors. We’ll crush them with documents and official seals.”

The coffee shop was quiet.

But the conversation at our table was brutal.

Kim So-jeong turned another page of her notebook.

“The judicial scrivener the eldest son uses is highly influential even in Gangnam. It looks like they’re preparing something decisive.”
