Chapter 280

Chapter 280. King of Hell (3)

“Oh, that looks like the Material Realm.”

Standing atop a sphere floating in the void, Lucifer looked into the distance and muttered.

“If you head over there, you should be able to return.”

“Hmm. It’ll probably feel like you’re falling, but it’s nothing serious. Just endure it.”

"..."

"..."

"..."

No one answered Lucifer.

Not me.

Not Daji.

Not even Kang Yujin.

All of us were completely exhausted.

“Why does everyone look like that?”

“I think it’s a miracle we made it this far alive.”

“I already told you. It was much harder when I came through here in the past.”

“This route has become extremely easy now.”

“I’m starting to respect you...”

I had genuinely thought I was going to die on the way here.

We had gone through so many hardships that explaining every single one would have been exhausting in itself.

“No wonder Taigong Wang thought escaping from Hell was impossible...”

“I agree.”

Daji muttered with her shoulders slumped.

Unlike the rest of us, who had mostly endured everything with our bodies, Daji had relied on sorcery.

Even so, it had been brutal for her.

Most of her transformation had already come undone, and much of her body had returned to the form of a nine-tailed fox.

“I even started wondering whether we should just stay in Hell forever...”

Even Kang Yujin, whose physical ability and mental endurance were both beyond ordinary standards, was so exhausted that he could barely move.

“Still, we’re almost there.”

“All you have to do now is go over there.”

Lucifer urged us onward.

In the end, we had no choice but to force ourselves up and head in the direction he pointed.

But Lucifer didn’t move.

He simply stood there.

“Lucifer.”

I called his name.

He remained with his arms folded, silently watching us.

“Aren’t you coming?”

“I’ll remain here.”

Lucifer answered calmly.

“Hell will disappear completely before long.”

“I intend to share its fate.”

"..."

I silently looked at his face.

He wore the same face as me...

but his expression carried the dignity and responsibility of an emperor who had once ruled a vast empire.

“Lucifer...”

“Do you have no intention of reviving?”

I asked.

“You only have part of your soul left right now, but... if you took power from me and Kang Yujin, you could probably manifest in the Material Realm again.”

Kang Yujin and Daji both flinched at my words.

“I am already dead, Nameless King.”

Lucifer spoke slowly.

“You must have heard plenty about that from Belial.”

"..."

“If I forced myself back to life now, it would only look pathetic.”

Belial had told me more than once.

He could never forgive anyone who tried to defile Lucifer’s honorable death.

That was why Belial had despised those who attempted to resurrect Lucifer.

“As you already know, Pandemonium has effectively fallen.”

"..."

“The surviving demons are seeking a path of coexistence with humanity.”

“If I appeared again now, I would only create more chaos.”

Lucifer’s voice was cold and composed.

He had accepted the destruction of the empire he once led.

“But Lucifer.”

“Won’t you fight until the very end?”

I questioned him again.

“Weren’t you a rebel?”

“Shouldn’t you resist Taigong Wang to the very end?”

"..."

“You must want to take revenge with your own hands against the one responsible for all of this.”

Lucifer silently stared at my face.

After looking at me for a while...

he slowly shook his head.

“No.”

“It’s fine.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re here.”

Lucifer placed a hand on my shoulder.

“I’ll leave it to you, Nameless King.”

“Lucifer...”

“If there is someone to carry on after you, then it is never truly the end.”

“Isn’t that right?”

I remembered hearing something similar before.

“I have passed on everything I can give you.”

“Then your struggle is also my struggle.”

"..."

“Defeat Taigong Wang, Nameless King.”

Lucifer spoke with imperial dignity.

“You possess the Holy Grail, a holy relic made from the jewel on my forehead and filled with the blood of the Son of God.”

“And Kang Yujin, who reproduced my power, stands beneath you.”

“You can win.”

“Lucifer...”

Looking at his face, I spoke.

“You invaded the Material Realm and slaughtered countless humans.”

“So I can’t approve of you.”

“Yes.”

“That is only natural.”

“But I promise you something.”

I looked directly into his eyes.

“I’ll keep fighting for victory until the very end.”

“Good.”

“That is the spirit.”

Lucifer nodded with satisfaction.

“There’s no benefit in wasting time.”

“Go.”

“Understood, Lucifer.”

After that exchange...

I turned my back on him.

Just as I was about to move in the direction Lucifer had shown us...

his voice came again.

“Nameless King.”

I glanced back.

Lucifer was smiling at me.

“Thank you for becoming Belial’s friend.”

"..."

Those words...

felt strangely human.

Lucifer...

For a moment, I wondered whether Lucifer had simply become tired.

If he truly had been fighting since before the Creator made humanity...

then Lucifer was probably the being who had struggled longer than anyone else in the entire universe.

If so...

he had been fighting for far too long.

Maybe it was finally time for him to rest.

"..."

I didn’t answer.

I simply nodded once.

Then I threw myself into the vast cosmos.

Carrying Lucifer’s legacy...

and heading back toward the Material Realm.

And just like the fallen angel...

we began to fall.

Alaska.

The land where the provisional government of the United States had taken refuge after being driven back by Pandemonium.

In that bitterly cold land...

Lee Jukheon wore a fur hat and frowned.

“Damn, hunting monsters in a place this cold is hell.”

“It’s hard enough to move with all this snow.”

“You’re the last person who should be complaining.”

The one answering was Clive Strider, who had used the codename ‘Mordred’ in the Round.

“You’re the one who brought us here.”

“You volunteered to follow me!”

Lee Jukheon’s Alaska expedition had arrived a week ago.

Their goal was to contact the provisional government of the United States and form an alliance.

But Alaska was an extremely harsh environment crawling with monsters.

The provisional government had no room to concern itself with outside affairs.

So Lee Jukheon had no choice but to lead his expedition into monster extermination operations.

“Those Americans better lend us at least a few submarines after everything we’ve done for them.”

“We need to squeeze them properly.”

“Otherwise, this whole thing won’t be worth it.”

While talking like that...

Lee Jukheon and his companions continued taking down monsters.

BOOOOM!

Then...

a massive explosion suddenly echoed nearby.

“W-What was that?”

“Did a missile explode?”

“Something fell from the sky!”

Lee Jukheon hurried toward the source of the explosion.

He reached the site faster than everyone else.

A huge crater appeared before him.

“Did a meteor fall...?”

Confused, Lee Jukheon looked into the crater.

Then...

he saw several familiar faces.

“Ow...”

“I thought the ‘falling’ part was just metaphorical.”

“I assumed we’d simply transfer into the Material Realm...”

“I didn’t expect us to actually break through the atmosphere halfway down...”

“If we hadn’t combined the Holy Grail’s power with Daji’s sorcery, all three of us would’ve turned to dust...”

Seeing the three people collapsed inside the crater...

Lee Jukheon dropped the Yitian Sword from his hand.

“Oh...”

“It’s Lee Jukheon.”

Kang Yujin was the first to get up.

He dusted off his clothes and looked at Lee Jukheon.

“What are you doing here?”

“That’s my line!”

Lee Jukheon shouted.

“This is so absurd I don’t even know what to say.”

After hearing a rough explanation...

Lee Jukheon shook his head repeatedly.

“You’re sure you didn’t dream all of that?”

“It all happened.”

“Unbelievable...”

We were currently inside an abandoned U.S. military base.

Lee Jukheon had brought us here after finding us.

“And you over there...”

“No, you...”

“No, Lord Constellation...”

“You can just call me Kim Nameless like Kang Yujin does.”

“No, I can’t possibly do that...”

Lee Jukheon looked awkwardly at me.

“A-Anyway, thank you for everything you’ve done for us, Nameless King.”

“It’s an honor to finally meet you.”

“Hey, that’s awkward.”

Watching Lee Jukheon bow his head and speak formally made me feel strangely embarrassed.

“Anyway, Lee Jukheon...”

“I’m glad you reached Alaska safely.”

“I was so busy that I couldn’t give you much support, but it looks like you’ve accomplished a lot.”

“It couldn’t have been easy leading Contractors from multiple countries all the way to Alaska.”

“You’ve done really well.”

“N-No, not at all!”

“Thank you!”

“I’ll work even harder from now on!”

“Did Lord Kang Yujin and Lord Lee Jukheon switch personalities or something?”

Daji looked at him in disbelief.

Meanwhile...

Kang Yujin looked dissatisfied.

“Kim Nameless.”

“You’ve never praised me like that.”

“Really?”

“That’s harsh.”

While we were talking...

the door opened and Clive stuck his head inside.

“They’re all here.”

Clive stepped aside.

A group entered the room.

“Nameless!”

“Why do you always make people worry like this?!”

“If this keeps happening, even we’re going to have a problem with it, Nameless King.”

Jason, Lee Gyu, and Princess Longji hurried toward me.

And they weren’t alone.

“Nameless...!”

Number 49 threw herself at me with tears in her eyes.

“This time!”

“I really thought you were dead!”

“Yeah, yeah.”

“Sorry.”

I patted Number 49 as she buried her face against me and sobbed.

“Do you think saying sorry makes everything okay?!”

“You’re seriously too much!”

“Sorry.”

“I had to make a quick trip to Hell.”

“What else could I do?”

“Next time you go, take me with you!”

“No, that’s probably not a good idea...”

As we exchanged those words...

I looked toward the other Constellations.

“We don’t have much time.”

“We need to move quickly before Joo Minha or Taigong Wang realizes I’m back.”

They weren’t watching the entire world in real time.

It would take some time before they noticed that we had escaped from Hell.

“Understood.”

Jason nodded with a serious expression.

“What do we do?”

“We begin our counterattack using every bit of power we can mobilize.”

Our enemy could send us to Hell with the movement of a finger.

Dragging things out while trying to move cautiously would only make the situation more dangerous.

We needed to attack first...

with everything we had from the very beginning.

“We’re going to throw everything we have into this.”

It was finally time.

Time to gather everything I had built as a Constellation...

and begin the final battle.
