Chapter 16

Chapter 16

[Comment] WisdomMom: Wow... you're really writing fiction now. What OB-GYN doctor personally massages someone's breasts and squeezes out pus? You'd have to be insane lololololol.

[Comment] YeolmuMom: Exactly. Breastfeeding specialists or nurses do that kind of thing. Doctors don't even touch your breasts. They just throw an antibiotic prescription at you and tell you to go to surgery.

[Comment] PickyMom: If you squeeze an abscess like that, you'll rupture all the milk glands!! New moms, don't fall for some neighborhood clinic hiring promoters on its very first day. That's seriously dangerous;;

[Comment] SpringMom: Look at the writing quality~ Even the paragraph breaks are perfect haha. Advertising agencies have really improved these days.

[Comment] DodamMom: A university hospital professor said she needed surgery, but some neighborhood clinic that just opened fixed it? If that were possible, why would university hospitals even exist;;

[Comment] KongMom: But I seriously feel like I've got a rock inside my breast right now... I'm so desperate I'd try anything ㅠㅠ Could you message me the address...?

The pride Minseo had felt only moments ago disappeared.

Annoyance quickly replaced it.

Some people accused her of being a paid hospital promoter.

Others called the clinic a scam.

Still others acted as if they were experts and treated her like an idiot because "something like that couldn't possibly happen."

Harsh comments piled up one after another.

Minseo frowned.

"What? Fiction? A paid promoter? They don't know anything!"

They weren't just insulting her.

They were insulting the horrible pain she'd endured with her own body and the wonderful doctor who had gently taken that pain into her own hands.

Something inside Han Minseo snapped.

A strange fighting spirit ignited inside a woman who normally avoided conflict and dreamed only of being an elegant, devoted wife and mother.

I'll prove it even if I have to photograph my card receipt and prescription envelope.

Minseo rolled up her sleeves.

Tap, tap, tap.

She began typing furiously.

She needed to answer every one of those comments.

People who don't know anything!

Pain.

Fear.

Anxiety.

Despair.

Those people were mocking the sacred place of healing that had saved Han Minseo from losing part of her breast.

They deserved an answer.

Minseo willingly stepped onto the front line.

At that same time, another mother in the same neighborhood was reading the post.

Son Jeonga was sprawled across her living-room floor, breathing heavily.

Cold cabbage leaves were plastered all over her swollen breasts because some parenting café claimed it was a home remedy.

But they were nowhere near enough to cool the terrible heat inside breasts that had hardened like stone.

"Ah, damn it, you crazy idiot... Did someone hold a knife to your throat and force you to breastfeed?!"

Jeonga screamed while pulling at her own hair.

"You could've just given the baby colostrum and switched to formula! Why did you suddenly decide you had to prove some incredible maternal love? Look what you've done to yourself! Your breasts are going to rot off! What good is breastfeeding then, you idiot...!"

The frightened baby beside her started crying.

"Kong, don't cry. Please. Mommy will hold you, okay?"

The baby was only three weeks old and hadn't been officially registered yet, so everyone still called the child by the prenatal nickname, Kong.

Jeonga hurriedly tried to pick the baby up.

"Ow!"

She screamed.

Even the lightest brush against her breast hurt unbearably.

Trembling, Jeonga struggled to her laptop and turned it on.

Maybe there was some miraculous massage technique that could instantly cure blocked milk ducts.

She opened Daum Café.

The post by 'PrettyMom' appeared again.

She had previously asked for the clinic's location under her secondary username 'KongMom,' but she'd been too suspicious to actually go.

[URGENT / MUST READ] I Ran Away After a University Hospital Told Me to Remove Part of My Breast, and Then I Found a Miracle

The post claimed a doctor had personally drained pus by hand.

It sounded impossible.

The comments had already turned into a battlefield.

People were calling it 'paid advertising' and 'a neighborhood clinic scam.'

If Jeonga hadn't been in this much pain, she would've mocked it too.

"What kind of lunatic doctor squeezes pus out with her own hands? This clinic hired the wrong promoter."

But the pain in her breast had become so severe that it overwhelmed rational thought.

Desperate enough to grab at anything, Jeonga clicked PrettyMom's username.

She'd been active in parenting communities for years.

If this was an advertising account, it should've been newly created or have only one promotional post.

She clicked [View Author's Posts].

As Jeonga scrolled through PrettyMom's old posts, her eyes slowly widened.

[Prenatal Education] Finished My Baby's First Newborn Jacket With French Embroidery~ Hoho (Views: 210)

[Cooking] Shabu-Shabu Dinner Ready for My Husband's Return From Work ^^ (Views: 540)

[Interior] Come See My Baby's European-Style Nursery~ (Views: 1,200)

The farther she scrolled, the more lace and floral-pattern pictures appeared.

The clean white house looked like something out of a magazine.

The unmistakable scent of an 'elegant devoted wife' who enjoyed showing off a little filled every post.

Jeonga let out an incredulous laugh.

"What is this? Some sheltered greenhouse flower?"

But at the same time, she became certain.

She's definitely not a paid promoter.

This was someone who loved showing off her perfect housekeeping skills, spotless nursery, and imported dishes.

The account had documented years of her life, from pregnancy to childbirth.

A woman who usually wrote gracefully about French embroidery had thrown away all dignity in the middle of the night and posted things like, 'I cried like a crazy woman in the market.'

"Doesn't look hacked either."

Jeonga snapped her laptop shut and jumped up.

"Damn it. Whatever. I'm going."

She was in a hurry.

If she left now, she'd arrive around 8:50.

Meanwhile, the clinic was preparing to open.

Gain was thinking.

Should I hand out flyers?

Yesterday, after treating Han Minseo, not a single other patient had come.

The real-estate agent who had helped her rent the clinic had stopped by to say hello.

That was all.

"I'll spread the word everywhere!"

The agent had promised several times.

But still, no patients came.

"Whew."

Back when Gain was the Saintess, patients found her on their own.

She'd never needed advertising.

If anything, the knight order had needed to stand outside with spears to stop patients from flooding in day and night.

"Good morning!"

Choi Yuri arrived.

Jo Eunjae came shortly afterward.

"I'm here."

Following yesterday's training, the two began preparing to receive patients.

Eunjae cleaned diligently.

Yuri opened the computer program and practiced using it.

"..."

There were still twenty minutes before the official opening time of nine o'clock.

The clinic was silent.

It sharply contrasted with the already-busy market outside.

"..."

Im Gain looked at the clock hanging on the wall.

This was South Korea.

There was no magic.

No miracles.

Perhaps expecting an unknown clinic on its second day to somehow fill itself with patients was simply wishful thinking.

Should I wake up before dawn and put flyers around the nearby apartment complexes?

Gain thought about it.

Her major wasn't business.

She didn't know much about advertising.

She was confident patients would naturally increase over time, but right now she felt lost.

More important than that, however, was her divine power.

As usual, Gain focused on the area near her chest and measured the water level of the spring inside her.

Everything that had mysteriously increased last night was still there.

A little more than half a ketchup bottle cap.

It hadn't increased.

It hadn't decreased.

Whatever mysterious water had entered the spring wasn't leaking away.

It didn't increase because I prayed.

She had no idea where it came from.

Which meant she didn't know when it would refill again.

Then there was only one answer.

Conserve it.

Use it only when someone's life was in danger.

Truthfully, even the amount she'd used on Han Minseo yesterday had felt precious.

So Gain hoped there wouldn't be another emergency today.

No. I shouldn't think like that.

I should be grateful I can use it on patients at all.

Gain corrected herself.

Then it happened.

Thud, thud, thud!

Someone hurriedly charged up the stairs.

Rattle, rattle, rattle! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The locked glass clinic door shook violently, as if it might break.

"Hey! Open the door! I can see the lights are on in there!"

Five minutes before nine.

A new patient had arrived.

"C-come in!"

Yuri jumped in surprise and rushed to unlock the door.

A woman burst inside like a bulldozer.

"Haa... haa... Hey!"

She wore gray sweatpants with stretched-out knees and an enormous padded coat that clearly belonged to her husband.

Her hair had been roughly twisted up with a large clip.

Dark, dried stains on the nursing shirt beneath the coat smelled faintly of milk.

The staff didn't know it, but this was Son Jeonga.

She had spent the entire night digging through Daum Café and reading every post PrettyMom had ever written.

"Oh my, ma'am! We haven't officially started seeing patients yet..."

"I'm in a hurry. A real hurry."

Son Jeonga braced herself against the reception counter while breathing heavily.

"That post from Daum Café yesterday."

Hearing the commotion, Im Gain came out from the treatment room and faced her.

Jeonga continued talking while filling out her registration form.

"You obviously know which post I mean, right? There are hundreds of comments saying your director paid someone to advertise for you."

"?"

What post?

I don't even know what she's talking about.

Behind her, Jo Eunjae and Choi Yuri exchanged looks.

Jeonga continued without caring.

"I wasn't sure whether to believe it either, but right now my breasts are on fire and I feel like cutting them off with a kitchen knife, so I came here even if it means getting scammed."

Jeonga pointed a finger at Gain.

"If yesterday's post was written by some friend you paid to promote this place, I'll put up a banner calling this clinic a scam and lie down in front of your door. So do something!"

Jo Eunjae frowned.

She immediately stepped in front of Gain as if ready to block Jeonga.

"You're being rather rude."

Choi Yuri stepped forward too.

"I understand you're in terrible pain right now, but I think you're directing your anger at the wrong person."

I chose my staff well.

Gain stepped forward.

To the former Saintess, the anger, fear, and pain hidden beneath Jeonga's harsh words were obvious.

Her forehead was flushed.

She probably had a fever as well.

"Please take her to the examination room."

"I'll examine your breasts."

Inside the consultation room, Jeonga breathed heavily and ripped off the large padded coat.

Then she pulled up the sweatshirt beneath it.

"Here. Right here."

Gain carefully examined her.

Jeonga's breasts were as hard as bricks.

Blue veins bulged beneath skin stretched thin from swelling.

At first glance, it resembled yesterday's patient, whose mastitis had worsened into an abscess.

"Your entire breast is severely engorged."

But the cause was different.

Gain placed a tray underneath and gently massaged the breast.

Son Jeonga shouted.

"I know that! The problem is I don't know how to fix it!"

Her irritated voice was mixed with tears.

"Here, look."

Gain spoke gently.

She could tell just by looking.

"The exits where the milk is supposed to come out are completely blocked."

"The exits? What does that mean?"

Gain pointed toward the tips of Jeonga's nipples.

Son Jeonga blinked her swollen, tear-filled eyes.

"These? Those white dots?"

"That's right."

There were several tiny, hard white spots about the size of a needle eye embedded in both nipples.

"These are called nipple blebs."
