Chapter 38

Chapter 38

“CEO!”

Manager Kwon Seunghun rushed toward CEO Jeong Seonghan.

CEO Jeong frowned at him.

But instead of answering...

He continued calling for me.

“Enough.”

“Choi Inwoo, get in here right now!”

CEO Jeong did not seem willing to reveal everything in front of the employees.

Even though he was furious over the false accusation...

He apparently wanted to speak with me first.

But Manager Kwon immediately stepped forward.

“CEO Jeong.”

“I don't know what happened, but Assistant Manager Choi wouldn't do anything wrong.”

“It looks like someone sent in some kind of malicious report or accusation...”

“What do you mean an accusation came in?”

“Doesn't that mean Assistant Manager Choi did something wrong?”

CEO Jeong's mind seemed completely focused on the possibility that I had betrayed him.

“If you pressure him like this without confirming the facts first, everyone in the office will become unsettled.”

“There must be a misunderstanding.”

“Please confirm the facts first.”

Manager Kwon's worried words lowered CEO Jeong's voice slightly.

“That's exactly why I'm trying to confirm it now.”

“Assistant Manager Choi, hurry up and come in.”

The conversation between them was filled with tension.

But I was not watching CEO Jeong or Manager Kwon.

I was looking at Manager Jang Woojin...

Relaxing comfortably in his chair.

And Lee Sejun...

Whose lips were twisted into a smile in the corner.

They looked at each other and quietly laughed.

They were enjoying this.

Their eyes practically spoke.

We finally sent that arrogant bastard Choi Inwoo straight to hell.

After all...

They believed that if they trapped me for only two days...

They would have enough time to erase all the evidence.

But...

I knew their entire plan.

Which was why I remained completely calm.

I slowly stood and looked at Manager Kwon.

Then I gave him a small bow, telling him with my eyes that everything was fine.

A small USB drive rested in my pocket.

I touched it.

A faint smile appeared on my lips.

“Yes, CEO.”

“I'll come in now.”

“Follow me.”

I immediately followed CEO Jeong into his office.

Behind me...

I could picture Lee Sejun's face clearly.

He was probably laughing at me, drunk on victory.

But I was the one laughing inside.

Then I closed the office door.

“CEO Jeong, what happened...?”

BANG!

Before I could finish...

CEO Jeong slammed his fist onto the desk.

The sound echoed through the office.

It was so loud it probably reached the sales department outside.

I could practically feel everyone out there holding their breath.

Of course they were curious about what was happening inside.

After hitting the desk...

CEO Jeong took a deep breath and tried to calm himself.

It did not seem easy.

“Assistant Manager Choi.”

“Don't you have anything to tell me?”

His voice trembled.

Anger.

Betrayal.

“Apparently...”

He had asked me a question.

Yet he did not wait for my answer.

“I received a contract saying you secretly had cheap imported rice mixed into Korean rice from a Honam rice processing plant just to meet WG Instant Rice's delivery schedule and price.”

“A contract?”

“Yes.”

“A very detailed contract.”

“It even has a signature under your name.”

His breathing grew rough again.

“If this is true, WG Food has to close its doors.”

“We're finally beginning to shine between these major corporations.”

“I trusted you and gave you authority over the sales department.”

“Did you really betray me this badly?”

“CEO Jeong.”

“That isn't true.”

But his eyes were already consumed by anger.

“If you cannot clearly explain this contract right now...”

“I will suspend all your duties immediately.”

“Explain yourself!”

Broken blood vessels were visible around his eyes.

His breathing trembled with betrayal.

That was how completely he had trusted me.

I waited for him to finish everything.

There was no point interrupting him.

Even if I tried explaining while his anger was still exploding...

He would not be able to focus on my words.

CEO Jeong did not want to believe the fake contract.

At the same time...

It was so detailed and specific that simply dismissing it was difficult.

I only waited until his anger had emptied.

Finally...

My turn came.

I exhaled once.

Then took the USB from my pocket.

“CEO Jeong.”

“Please look at this first.”

I placed the USB beside his laptop.

“I'm sorry this cheap fake document upset you.”

“But before I explain myself...”

“I want you to see this evidence.”

His anger flared again.

“I told you to explain yourself.”

“What is this?”

“Are you trying to make excuses instead?”

“No.”

“My explanation is all inside this USB.”

My voice remained calm and confident.

Still breathing heavily...

CEO Jeong inserted the USB into his laptop.

Click.

The first audio recording opened.

It was the conversation between Manager Jang Woojin and Lee Sejun on the rooftop the previous day.

Their voices filled CEO Jeong's office through the laptop speakers.

Lee Sejun's voice came through clearly.

“Two days before the lie gets exposed will be enough.”

“Knowing the CEO, he'll shut down the instant rice production line until the facts are checked.”

“During that time, we'll destroy all the documents related to the Honam marts and finish cleaning the ledgers...”

Lee Sejun's dark voice filled the room.

Then came Manager Jang Woojin's voice...

Supporting the plan.

CEO Jeong's expression changed.

From rage...

To disbelief.

Then...

To shock.

“What...”

“What the hell is this...?”

He could barely speak.

But I could not stop there.

The truth had only begun.

I calmly opened the next file.

A video.

Lee Sejun stood outside the shabby warehouse called Hansarang Mart.

WG Food sauces were being transferred directly from the mart to an eleven-ton dumping truck with its license plate hidden.

Then...

Lee Sejun accepted the thick brown envelope from the truck driver.

The envelope tore.

Bundles of 50,000-won bills spilled onto the ground.

The truth still was not finished.

Next came the fake return slips approved by Manager Jang Woojin through the logistics system.

And the evidence Ma Juncheol had sent me.

The off-the-books dumping transaction statements.

One piece of evidence after another filled the screen.

Before I could even begin explaining...

CEO Jeong stared at the monitor.

“This...”

“What is all of this...?”

His mouth hung open.

For a moment...

I actually became worried about him.

He had gone through too much in one day.

I waited for him to breathe.

For his mind to return.

Then I spoke.

“CEO Jeong.”

“May I explain everything one by one now?”

“Haah...”

“Yes.”

His body moved up and down with anger.

Only rough breathing escaped him.

“First...”

“The new accounts brought in by Lee Sejun...”

I explained everything I had discovered.

Lee Sejun's new clients.

Manager Jang Woojin's active assistance.

The losses WG Food had suffered.

The chaos created in the market.

Even with the photos and recordings...

There was still a huge amount of context CEO Jeong needed to understand.

He knew none of this.

I spoke for a long time.

I could not tell whether tens of minutes had passed.

CEO Jeong listened with anger written across his face.

Then his expression shifted into disbelief.

Then betrayal.

Then anger again.

Sometimes...

He simply looked empty from the sheer scale of the crimes.

His face and eyes changed constantly.

His heavy breathing gradually turned into hollow disbelief.

Even I could feel his emotions while explaining it.

Jeong Seonghan had devoted his youth to raising the small company WG Food toward the top of Korea's food industry.

It had started in Honam.

Beginning with Gwangju...

He had run night and day to secure a foundation throughout the region.

To him...

What Jang Woojin and Lee Sejun had done was not merely internal corruption.

They had rotted the company's distribution order from the foundation.

They had fooled and mocked him completely.

“Jang Woojin...”

“Lee Sejun...”

CEO Jeong's lips began trembling violently.

His face had been red earlier from the false imported-rice accusation.

Now it had turned dark crimson from uncontrollable rage and humiliation.

His right hand gripped the edge of the desk so tightly...

Thick veins rose across the back of it.

“Those bastards...”

“They blinded me completely and diverted company products into the wholesale market?”

His breathing was rough.

“And as if that wasn't enough...”

“They forged this garbage ingredient contract to frame Assistant Manager Choi, the man who saved the company?”

CEO Jeong slammed the desk again.

The vibration traveled through the desk to where I stood.

The pen holder shook.

He grabbed the fake contract and supply documents lying across the desk.

Then...

He ripped them apart.

Violently.

The office became silent.

Only the sound of paper tearing remained.

Riiip.

Riiip.

It sounded almost like the noise was expressing his wounded feelings.

The fake contract became scraps.

The pieces scattered across the floor.

I stood one step back and quietly watched everything.

I had expected this reaction from the moment I pressed the record button on the rooftop.

Jeong Seonghan valued quality and public trust as if they were the lifeline of a small company.

Lee Sejun and Jang Woojin had touched the one thing they never should have touched.

CEO Jeong barely controlled his breathing.

Then he turned toward me.

The sharp anger in his eyes faded slightly the moment he looked at me.

Now there was guilt.

Gratitude.

And many complicated emotions.

“Assistant Manager Choi.”

“For a moment... I doubted you.”

“I almost allowed myself to become blind and fail to recognize your honesty.”

“No, CEO.”

“Anyone who saw those fake contracts and documents would have reacted the same way.”

“I'm truly sorry.”

“And thank you.”

“Before the full audit even began, you uncovered everything with undeniable evidence.”

His sigh had changed.

It was now a sigh of relief.

“Without you...”

“WG Food might have been dragged into the abyss by those bastards' greed.”

“Thank you, Assistant Manager Choi Inwoo.”

“No, CEO.”

“I'm simply glad we corrected it before the company's distribution network and public trust were damaged beyond repair.”

A faint smile appeared on his face.

“I only did what I was supposed to do as a sales employee.”

The moment I finished...

CEO Jeong spoke decisively.

“Then it's time to finish this.”
