Chapter 40

Chapter 40

“CEO Jeong.”

“The thing is...”

Lee Sejun opened his mouth to explain.

But there was no real explanation he could give.

Only excuses.

“Please listen to me once.”

“CEO, please.”

“There's something you absolutely need to hear...”

His voice no longer carried his usual calm arrogance.

It trembled.

The pathetic reality beneath his flashy rich-kid image had finally been exposed.

He could not even pick up the imported-car key that had rolled onto the floor.

Instead...

He reached toward CEO Jeong desperately.

CEO Jeong narrowed his eyes.

“Fine.”

“Say your final words.”

Lee Sejun nodded quickly.

“This is all a misunderstanding.”

“Manager Jang Woojin ordered everything.”

“I only did what he told me to do...”

Before he could finish...

Manager Jang exploded.

“What did you say?”

“You little bastard!”

Lee Sejun ignored him.

He continued desperately.

“Manager Jang said he'd approve the marketing support funds.”

“He told me to borrow the names of wholesalers around Gwangju.”

“I only moved the products because he told me to.”

He lowered his eyebrows as though he were the victim.

“The cars and luxury goods were bought with money my parents gave me.”

“I've never embezzled company funds.”

“Manager Jang did everything!”

Manager Jang jumped from his chair and rushed toward Lee Sejun as if he wanted to grab him by the collar.

“Lee Sejun!”

“You insane bastard!”

“Don't try to drag me down with you!”

Cold sweat ran down Manager Jang's face and soaked his shirt.

The conference room instantly became a filthy mud fight between the two.

“CEO Jeong!”

“Everything that bastard is saying is a lie.”

Manager Jang began exposing Lee Sejun's secrets too.

“Lee Sejun's father went bankrupt and became a credit delinquent.”

“That bastard has been stealing company money to pretend he's rich and drive expensive cars!”

Lee Sejun ground his teeth.

“Assistant Manager Lee was also the one who suggested creating the fake department-store MD rumor!”

“And what about you?”

“Didn't you say your family needed money?”

“Didn't you say we had to make cash no matter what?”

The two shouted and exposed each other's secrets.

Disgusted murmurs spread through the room.

“Wow.”

“Unbelievable.”

“He bragged that he was rich, but his family was actually buried in bad credit?”

“So he embezzled company money to drive imported cars?”

“That's horrifying.”

“If Assistant Manager Choi hadn't caught them, the company could've gone under.”

“I thought stuff like this only happened in movies.”

“This fight is ridiculously dramatic.”

“I can't believe we're actually watching it.”

Im Sanghyeon clicked his tongue and stared at Lee Sejun like he was looking at an insect.

Baek Seoyeon turned her face away.

Manager Kwon watched CEO Jeong carefully before speaking coldly.

“CEO Jeong.”

“There's no need to listen to any more of this.”

“The physical evidence and recordings are already clear.”

“Even this disgraceful argument in front of every employee is an embarrassment to the company.”

CEO Jeong slowly stood.

His expression was no longer furious.

It had become cold.

BANG!

He slammed the desk.

Everyone's attention snapped toward him.

The fight between Manager Jang and Lee Sejun ended instantly.

“Shut those filthy mouths!”

CEO Jeong's voice pressed down heavily over the entire conference room.

“Jang Woojin.”

“You worked beside me for more than ten years.”

“Lee Sejun.”

“You lied about your family and built this entire fraud.”

“Neither of you deserves to remain in my company.”

Silence.

“You dared gamble with the quality that is the lifeline of a food company.”

“You turned this company into a mess for your own benefit.”

His eyes moved between them.

There was not a trace of mercy.

“Manager Jang Woojin.”

“Assistant Manager Lee Sejun.”

“As of this moment, both of you are terminated.”

“...CEO!”

“CEO Jeong!”

“I only did what I was told.”

“Please...”

But CEO Jeong continued.

“This is not a simple suspension.”

“WG Food's legal team will immediately file criminal complaints for breach of trust, occupational embezzlement, private-document forgery, and obstruction of business.”

Lee Sejun immediately dropped to his knees.

“CEO Jeong... please, not that...”

“Even now...”

“You still have no intention of admitting what you did or apologizing.”

That was the moment CEO Jeong's final restraint disappeared.

Even after everything had been exposed...

Neither man had admitted their wrongdoing.

Instead...

Lee Sejun blamed Manager Jang.

Both claimed they were victims.

They begged for forgiveness while refusing to take responsibility.

Not once had either man sincerely apologized.

“Your access to the company system is revoked effective immediately.”

“Don't even think about returning to your desks.”

CEO Jeong walked toward the conference room door.

Then spoke without looking back.

“Get out.”

“Leave my company right now.”

His expression was ice-cold as he opened the door.

Lee Sejun slowly stood.

Manager Jang began shouting desperately.

“CEO Jeong!”

“It wasn't me!”

“If I leave WG Food, where am I supposed to go?”

“CEO Jeong!”

“CEO!”

CEO Jeong turned slightly.

“You'll never be able to work at another food company again.”

“I'll make sure of that.”

“CEO!”

Lee Sejun walked toward the door in a daze.

He did not even remember to pick up the imported-car key lying on the floor.

The conference room door slammed shut behind them.

BANG.

The two rotten parasites that had been poisoning the company were finally gone.

For a moment...

Silence filled the room.

No one spoke.

The empty seats where Jang Woojin and Lee Sejun had been sitting remained there.

No one even whispered insults.

Everyone was simply overwhelmed.

Eventually...

CEO Jeong spoke calmly.

“Assistant Manager Choi.”

“And everyone else.”

“I know today's events shocked you.”

“But if you don't cut out rotten flesh, a company cannot move forward.”

“That's right.”

“With one manager position suddenly empty, things will be difficult for a while.”

“Manager Kwon Seunghun will have to cover that area too.”

“So the workload will increase.”

Manager Kwon nodded.

“Understood, CEO.”

“Assistant Manager Choi.”

“I'll personally make sure you're properly rewarded for your third-quarter performance and for saving this company.”

“Everyone else...”

“Support Manager Kwon and help the department return to normal as quickly as possible.”

“Yes.”

CEO Jeong left the meeting room first.

After he disappeared...

The atmosphere immediately became lighter.

Everyone could feel it.

The nightmare was over.

“This is insane.”

“So Manager Jang...”

“No, why even call him manager anymore?”

“Exactly.”

“They're criminals.”

“What happens to those two now?”

“Probably prison.”

“Embezzling company money and products... damn.”

“How could they do something like that?”

The conversation remained focused on Jang Woojin and Lee Sejun for a while.

Then it shifted.

“Assistant Manager Choi really is incredible.”

“You went through a lot.”

“If Assistant Manager Choi hadn't found this...”

“We would've been in serious trouble.”

Im Sanghyeon was the first to grab Choi Inwoo's shoulders.

He looked happier than if it had been his own success.

“Inwoo!”

“How did you handle all of this alone?”

“You were amazing.”

“What's amazing about it?”

“Seriously.”

“I felt like I was watching a movie.”

Manager Kwon firmly shook Choi Inwoo's hand.

There was deep trust in his eyes.

Then he gave only a short sentence.

“Assistant Manager Choi.”

“You must've gone through hell mentally.”

“Good work.”

“Thank you.”

“And I'm sorry I couldn't tell you earlier.”

“No.”

“If anything, I'm sorry I couldn't help you.”

Choi Inwoo calmly bowed under the flood of congratulations.

After the storm-like purge...

WG Food's office returned to normal much faster than expected.

Not even one full day passed.

The company regained its usual peace and energy.

The desks once occupied by Jang Woojin and Lee Sejun were completely cleared.

The office itself somehow felt cleaner.

The ghost accounts Lee Sejun had created around Gwangju were immediately shut down and their contracts terminated under Manager Kwon Seunghun's direction.

Legitimate distribution partners...

Including Ma Juncheol's food-supply mart...

Showed even stronger trust in WG Food because of headquarters' quick response and the restoration of normal pricing.

The biggest change of all...

Was the atmosphere inside the company.

Under Manager Kwon Seunghun's leadership...

Assistant Manager Choi Inwoo had firmly established himself as the true ace of the sales department.

From early morning...

Employees kept visiting his desk to ask for his opinion.

“Assistant Manager Choi.”

“This is the fourth-quarter proposal for placing our new product line in Honam department stores.”

“Could you take a quick look?”

Baek Seoyeon smiled and handed him the documents.

They held the same rank.

Yet before seeking formal approval...

Or whenever employees wanted advice...

Many now came to Choi Inwoo first.

Choi Inwoo carefully reviewed the proposal.

Then answered gently.

“Assistant Manager Baek, the proposal itself is very good.”

“But when you're negotiating the department store's margin rate, try casually adding WG Instant Rice promotion support as a condition.”

“If you do that, they might sign without pushing back much.”

Baek Seoyeon's eyes widened.

“Wow.”

“As expected, Assistant Manager Choi always sees one move ahead.”

“I'll revise it that way and try again.”

“I'm glad I could help.”

After Baek Seoyeon walked away...

Im Sanghyeon finished a phone call and approached carrying two coffees.

“Our ace, Assistant Manager Choi.”

“Have some coffee.”

“Ace, my ass.”

“Your momentum these days is ridiculous.”

Choi Inwoo accepted the coffee and shook his head.

“Stop messing around and work.”

Im Sanghyeon glanced toward the break room and lowered his voice.

“By the way...”

“I heard Jang Woojin and Lee Sejun are being referred to prosecutors soon.”

“Talk about karma.”

“They fell into the grave they dug themselves.”

Choi Inwoo waved his hand.

“They don't work here anymore.”

“Don't waste your energy thinking about them.”

“It'll only give you a headache.”

“True.”

“I should focus on my own work and build my numbers.”

Choi Inwoo calmly drank his coffee.

His eyes moved toward the monitor.

Fourth-quarter projected WG Instant Rice sales.

And data for the new product lineup.

With the internal obstacles named Jang Woojin and Lee Sejun completely removed...

WG Food's growth had become unstoppable.

The company continued writing the miracle of a small business challenging major corporations.

And Choi Inwoo stood proudly at the center of it.

His confidence grew even stronger.

The office was filled with energetic phone calls and the sound of keyboards.

Outside the window...

The sky was unusually clear and blue.

A few hours passed.

Employees gradually left for client meetings and outside sales visits.

The office became quiet for a moment.

Then...

Ding.

A familiar notification sound came from Choi Inwoo's phone.

It had been quiet for quite a while.

He froze.

“Uh...”

“That sound...!”
