Chapter 33

Chapter 33

Part 32

“An unexpected gain.”

Without any regret, Yugeon returned to his boat.

After clearing Floor 33, Yugeon entered the waterway leading toward Floor 34.

The scenery began changing rapidly.

The forest of submerged buildings disappeared.

Massive cliffs rose on either side.

The current became violently fast.

[Floor 34: Great Canyon of Rapids]

ROOOOOAR!

After traveling deeper into the canyon...

Yugeon reached a fork.

A deafening roar echoed ahead.

The entire boat shook violently.

Even though it was reinforced by magic...

It looked as fragile as a leaf before the overwhelming force of nature.

“It's still here.”

The left passage.

In the distance...

A gigantic whirlpool hundreds of meters across blocked the path.

A black hole devouring all surrounding water.

Anything pulled inside, boat or human, would be torn apart.

Because of that...

Most Awakeners chose the right path.

Some had once wondered what existed beyond the left route.

They used countless items and skills to force their way through the whirlpool.

But when they finally passed it...

There had been nothing special.

The route simply continued toward the same destination.

It's only a split route.

Eventually, both paths reunited.

When Awakeners discovered that...

They felt cheated.

They had spent expensive items and powerful skills just to travel down another version of the same road.

But there actually is an item.

More precisely...

The item was not beyond the whirlpool.

It was beneath it.

Shing.

Ding!

[You have activated Heaven-Annihilating One Sword.]

[Feat 1 has been consumed.]

FLASH!

BOOOOOOOOOOM!

Yugeon's strike erased the raging whirlpool.

The water itself split apart.

[Item: Fragment of the Monarch]

Grade: Legendary

Type: ?

“Exactly the same.”

Yugeon picked up the black fragment.

It was about the size of his palm and looked like broken glass.

He had obtained this item in his previous life too.

Only its name and grade were displayed.

There was no description.

Not even a proper item category.

Yet the energy radiating from this tiny fragment was overwhelming.

This small piece had created that enormous whirlpool.

In my previous life, I tried absorbing its power.

Every attempt failed.

The energy could not be properly absorbed.

Whenever Yugeon forcibly extracted some of it and tried to use it...

He nearly lost his mind.

But now I know how to use it.

Yugeon stored the fragment in his spatial bag.

He needed three more.

Once he obtained all three...

He had to go to a certain place.

I discovered the purpose of these fragments far too late last time.

VROOOOM!

Splash!

After securing the item...

Yugeon continued forward.

I only need one more thing before leaving the Tower.

He checked the time and increased the boat's speed.

He still had some time.

But not enough to waste it.

Let's go.

Floor 35.

His final goal was there.

[Floor 35: Water Dragon Temple]

After quickly clearing the floor requirements, Yugeon drove his boat through the area while searching.

“Quiet.”

He sat on the bow and watched ahead.

Splashhhhh.

I should be close.

Then...

Whoooosh.

The fog slowly cleared.

A gigantic structure appeared.

Ancient ruins floating over the water.

Half-collapsed marble pillars rose above the surface.

Moss covered everything.

It must once have been a magnificent temple.

Now...

Half-submerged and abandoned...

It looked gloomy and desolate.

Here.

Yugeon slowed the boat and headed toward the entrance.

Then...

BOOOOOOM!

A massive explosion came from inside the temple.

It was not a monster's roar.

Something had broken apart.

Then he heard an irritated, young voice shouting.

“Ugh...! Maintain coordinates... Spatial compression density to maximum...!”

Yugeon's lips curved upward.

Found him.

The last member of the Godslayers.

The Space Ruler.

Kang Woojin.

He was here.

“Haa... Haa... Cough!”

In the central plaza of the temple...

A boy was frantically tapping holographic panels floating in the air.

He looked barely eighteen.

Round glasses.

An oversized robe almost as large as his entire body.

Kang Woojin.

A gigantic monster stood in front of him.

It was the same kind of commander boss that had emerged from the Tower in Choibalsan during the recent Wave.

The ruler of Floor 35.

The Lizardman King.

But this one was on another level compared to the Wave version.

Protected by the temple's blessing...

Its body was almost twice as large.

A blue barrier surrounded its entire body.

“Grrrr... A tiny human performing little tricks.”

The Lizardman King roared mockingly and slammed its enormous axe into the ground.

BOOM!

A terrifying shockwave rushed toward Woojin.

“Triple Spatial Distortion...!”

Woojin urgently snapped his fingers.

The transparent space in front of him warped.

The shockwave was redirected to the side.

But the recoil struck Woojin's brain directly.

“Ghk...”

Calculation overload.

His class was Mage.

His Unique Ability was Spatial Manipulator.

It allowed him to read everything in the world as x, y, and z coordinates and mathematical formulas.

He could twist and control space itself.

The potential was overwhelming.

But the ability had a fatal weakness.

His brain could be overloaded.

Just a little longer... I only need to hold on a little longer.

Woojin grabbed his pounding head and clenched his teeth.

There was only one reason he had entered the hellish Floor 35 alone.

His older sister.

Kang Yena.

His only sibling had suddenly collapsed three years ago.

She had begun coughing up blood from a mysterious illness.

Doctors had given up.

Even healing-type Awakeners had admitted defeat.

Then...

When Woojin was drowning in despair...

A powerful guild had approached him.

We know how to save your sister.

But we cannot tell you for free.

Enter the Water Dragon Temple on Floor 35 alone.

Kill the Lizardman King.

Bring us its heart core.

Then we'll tell you how to save your sister.

Anyone could see it was madness.

A Mage alone against the boss of Floor 35.

No Dealer.

No Tanker.

It was basically an order to die.

But Woojin could not refuse.

His sister had been coughing blood for three years.

Her complexion was now slowly becoming pale.

That meant she did not have much time left.

Woojin had to grab even the smallest hope.

I have to save her.

His sister had always smiled at him.

Even when he caused trouble.

Even when he got angry.

He could not let her die like this.

Woojin bit his lip until it bled.

Then he forced more mana out of his body.

But against the Lizardman King's overwhelming physical power...

Nothing was enough.

“How long will you keep struggling?!”

The Lizardman King released an unbearable aura.

The blue barrier surrounding it expanded.

Its muscles swelled unnaturally.

The creature threw away its axe.

Then it grabbed a gigantic steel mace with both hands.

CRUNCH.

RUMBLE.

Veins bulged across the monster's body as it gathered strength.

Strength output exceeding 400%.

Barrier durability limit reached.

Spatial friction collapsing.

The calculations inside Woojin's head turned red.

No choice. I'll overclock.

Woojin clenched his teeth and raised his index finger toward his temple.

Using this would cause terrible side effects.

But he had no other option.

If he died here...

His sister would spend her remaining days suffering alone.

Then...

Grab.

“??”

Someone caught his arm.

Even more shocking...

That person had passed through his defensive barrier.

“If you use that, you'll become a puppet.”

“Wh-Who are you...?”

It was Yugeon.

With a calm expression...

He stopped Woojin from activating Overclock.

“Don't use Overclock. Understand?”

“Y-Yes...?”

“Good.”

The Lizardman King roared.

“Another insect-like human has appeared!”

“You're noisy.”

WHOOSH!

BOOM!

BANG!

The Lizardman King raised its weapon to strike.

Yugeon looked at it.

“You're distracting me. Disappear.”

Ding!

[You have activated Heaven-Annihilating One Sword.]

[Feat 1 has been consumed.]

FLASH!

BOOOOOOOOOOM!

Yugeon's sword flashed.

The Lizardman King's body split in half.

“G... Ghk...?”

The boss collapsed with disbelief in its eyes.

Thud.

One strike.

Woojin had been prepared to burn out his own brain just to survive.

Yet this man erased the boss with a single movement.

“...”

Perfect silence covered the plaza.

“How...?”

Woojin stared blankly at the dead boss.

The ruler of Floor 35.

A monster empowered by the underwater temple.

A boss Woojin could not even scratch no matter what he tried.

Something flashed...

And it died.

Shing.

Yugeon put away his sword and looked down at Woojin.

“That guild can't cure your sister.”

“W-What?! How do you know about that?!”

Woojin instantly became wary.

The mention of his sister cleared his mind.

How did this man know his circumstances?

Why had he approached him?

“Don't be so cautious. I'm here to help.”

“How am I supposed to trust you...?”

“If I wanted to hurt you, I would've simply watched the boss kill you. Or I could've attacked when I passed through your barrier and grabbed your arm.”

“...”

He was right.

If Yugeon wanted him dead...

Woojin would already be dead.
