Chapter 52

Chapter 52: Back to Everyday Life

The next morning.

Taejun, Yura, and Yoon Jihye were already eating in the hotel restaurant.

Taejun was cutting his bread when he looked toward the entrance.

“Huh?”

Yura turned too.

Geonwoo was slowly walking into the dining room.

Even his steps were slower than usual.

Before coming to the table, he first got himself a cup of coffee.

Taejun watched him pull out a chair.

“Hyung. What time did you sleep last night?”

Geonwoo took a sip of coffee.

“I’m not sure. Why?”

“You look exhausted.”

“Did you stay up late?”

Yura studied his face too.

“Sunbae, did you work last night?”

“I got an idea while we were traveling yesterday, so I worked on it a little.”

“Looking at your face, I don’t think it was only a little.”

Geonwoo chuckled.

“I got absorbed while writing.”

“I didn’t realize how much time had passed.”

Yura looked curious.

“How interesting is it that you stayed up working even while traveling?”

“What’s it about?”

“Hmm...”

Geonwoo thought.

“I’m not completely sure yet.”

Yura tilted her head.

“Excuse me?”

“I’m still figuring out what kind of story it’ll become.”

“I’ve only got the rough structure so far.”

“Now that you say that, I’m curious what kind of story it’ll turn into too.”

Taejun joined in.

“Me too.”

“Any roles I could play?”

“I’m still developing it, so I don’t even know exactly what characters there’ll be.”

“If you find a good character, you can’t forget the two of us.”

Geonwoo only laughed and drank his coffee.

Yura looked at him.

“Just make sure you don’t fall asleep before today’s schedule ends.”

“I’m not that tired.”

“With your face right now, I think it’s completely possible.”

Jihye laughed beside them.

“Today we’re returning to Zurich for a city tour.”

“Sleep in the car on the way.”

“Just hearing that makes me sleepy already.”

“I think I’m going to sleep really well.”

Geonwoo finished his coffee.

Then got up and brought back some light food.

Today, they would check out of Fribourg and move to Zurich.

After spending the day there, they would return to Korea the next day.

Their short stay in Switzerland was nearing its end.

After breakfast, the four returned to their rooms and packed.

By the time they gathered in front of the hotel, they had brought down all their suitcases.

While loading luggage into the vehicle, Taejun looked back at the hotel.

“We’re really leaving.”

Yura asked,

“Sad?”

“A little.”

“It was my first place to stay in Europe.”

Taejun laughed.

“When we first got here, I was so jet-lagged I could barely think.”

“You still took the most pictures.”

“That’s separate.”

Jihye opened the vehicle door.

“There’ll be plenty of places to take pictures in Zurich too, so don’t be too sad.”

“As expected, Team Leader is the best.”

Taejun climbed in first.

Geonwoo checked that his suitcase had been loaded properly, then followed.

The car departed.

The buildings of Fribourg, where they had stayed for several days, slowly disappeared behind them.

Geonwoo leaned back in his seat.

Before long, he closed his eyes.

Taejun noticed and whispered to Yura,

“Hyung fell asleep immediately.”

“He must be tired.”

“He worked last night.”

“This is just my intuition, but I think it’s going to be an incredible story.”

“And the scale will probably be huge too.”

Yura asked,

“Why do you think that?”

“He said the idea came while we were traveling yesterday.”

“And the places we visited yesterday were huge.”

“So maybe the story will be huge too.”

“That actually sounds plausible.”

Geonwoo heard them with his eyes closed.

He didn’t bother opening them.

But Taejun’s unexpectedly sharp guess surprised him a little.

This guy’s pretty good.

After reaching Zurich, the four first left their luggage at the hotel.

Then they lightly headed out into the city.

They had seen plenty of old buildings in Fribourg and Gruyères, but Zurich had a different atmosphere.

They walked through narrow streets in the old town, then followed the river.

Taejun and Yura weren’t as obsessed with taking photos as they had been the day before.

Still, whenever they found a good spot, they naturally pulled out their phones.

Eventually, the four entered a café.

As soon as they sat down, Geonwoo naturally ordered coffee.

Taejun immediately asked,

“Hyung, how many cups is that today?”

“I don’t know.”

“Didn’t you already drink two this morning?”

“I said I don’t know.”

“Don’t drink too much coffee.”

“Hyunsoo isn’t here, so now you’re the one nagging me.”

Yura laughed.

“You must be tired, but we’re going back to Korea tomorrow.”

“You should enjoy the trip as much as possible today.”

“Fine.”

“I’ll drink coffee, get some energy, and enjoy the trip.”

After coffee, the four slowly walked all the way toward the lake.

At the end, they asked a passing tourist to take a picture of all four together.

Taejun checked it.

“This one came out really well.”

Everyone gathered close to look.

They all seemed satisfied.

At that moment, Taejun’s stomach growled.

It was louder than expected.

Everyone burst into laughter.

“You’re all getting hungry, right?”

Jihye asked.

“Should we go eat dinner now?”

Taejun answered loudly,

“Yes!”

The next day.

The four headed to Zurich Airport early in the morning.

Unlike when they had departed Korea, their suitcases now contained quite a few souvenirs.

Before check-in, Taejun reopened his suitcase and rearranged everything.

Yura watched beside him.

“I told you not to buy too much.”

“I didn’t buy that much.”

“Your suitcase won’t even close.”

“I packed it wrong.”

Taejun pressed down on the clothes.

The suitcase finally closed.

“See?”

“It worked.”

“When you open it in Korea, everything’s going to explode out.”

“I’ll worry about that in Korea.”

Geonwoo checked his own luggage first and waited for them.

Jihye finished checking in too.

“Everyone ready?”

“Yes.”

The four entered departures.

The long flight was quieter than the trip over.

Taejun fell asleep again before long.

Yura looked at her drama script for a while, then closed her eyes.

Geonwoo also spent most of the flight sleeping.

After landing at Incheon Airport, they completed immigration and collected their luggage.

The moment Taejun saw his suitcase appear on the conveyor belt, he grabbed the handle.

“Phew. Good.”

“What is?”

Yura asked.

“It didn’t explode.”

“Why would your suitcase explode?”

“You saw how full it was earlier.”

Yura laughed in disbelief.

Outside arrivals, their individual managers and vehicles were waiting.

The four people who had spent several days together were now returning to their separate schedules.

Yura took hold of her suitcase first.

“I’ll go first.”

“I’m filming from tomorrow morning.”

“You’ll be tired.”

Yura smiled at Geonwoo.

“It’s fine.”

“I slept a lot on the plane.”

Taejun added,

“I start filming the day after tomorrow.”

“Do well.”

“Of course.”

Taejun grinned.

Yura also bowed to Jihye.

“Team Leader, the travel schedule was really great.”

“I’m glad.”

Taejun immediately joined in.

“Me too.”

“I loved it too!”

Jihye laughed.

The four exchanged brief farewells.

Taejun and Yura left first for their vehicles.

Only Geonwoo and Jihye remained for a moment.

Jihye checked her phone.

“NetPlus contacted us.”

“I got several possible meeting dates.”

“I’ll finalize it today and let you know.”

“Yes. Please.”

Jihye looked at Geonwoo’s face.

“Are you going to work today too?”

“I don’t know.”

“I’m tired, so I’ll probably go home and sleep.”

Geonwoo laughed.

“Good decision.”

“Then I’ll see you at the NetPlus meeting.”

“Yes. Good work.”

“Get some rest.”

“You too.”

They went their separate ways.

The next morning.

Geonwoo entered the TS ENM building.

He was back at the company after several days.

A laptop bag hung from one shoulder.

In his other hand was a paper shopping bag.

He got out of the elevator and headed toward the meeting room.

When he opened the door, the producer and several art-team staff were already inside.

The producer saw Geonwoo and smiled.

“Director. Have a good trip?”

“Yes.”

“Congratulations on the award too.”

“Thank you.”

Geonwoo came inside and placed the shopping bag on one side of the table.

“I brought this as a gift.”

The producer looked inside.

“What is it?”

“Swiss chocolate.”

“I bought it so everyone could share.”

The producer laughed.

“You even brought something back for us?”

“I went traveling.”

One of the art-team members looked into the bag too.

“Thank you!”

“This will be perfect whenever our blood sugar drops.”

The box of chocolates was opened.

Everyone took one.

One person immediately unwrapped theirs.

“Director, you’ve already made my morning better.”

“I bought one that was supposed to be famous.”

“Hopefully it tastes good.”

“It’s Swiss chocolate.”

“How could it be bad?”

Geonwoo pulled out a chair and sat.

“How much progressed while I was gone?”

“More than you’d think.”

Several materials related to The Night the King Died covered the table.

Revised set designs.

Additional costume concepts.

Actor schedules.

Even casting progress for the remaining smaller roles.

The producer began explaining them one by one.

“First, the costume department is revising things in the direction you mentioned.”

“We also scheduled an additional fitting for Han Eunchae.”

“Yes.”

“The remaining roles are still moving forward too.”

“Most of the important parts are already settled.”

Geonwoo opened the art department materials.

His hand stopped after several pages.

“Is the courtyard really this wide?”

The art-team member checked the plan.

“Yes.”

“We based it on actual palace references.”

Geonwoo checked the positions marked on the plan.

The historian crosses the courtyard first.

Then, a short while later, the military officer enters the same space.

Geonwoo pointed to the two places.

“The distance feels wider than I expected.”

“The courtyard itself is large.”

Geonwoo studied the plan for a moment.

As a real space, it didn’t look strange.

But on camera, it was different.

As the latter half progressed, the audience needed to feel the gap between the two men narrowing.

“We don’t need to shrink the entire courtyard.”

Geonwoo pointed to one side corridor.

“Could we pull in only this side where the two characters actually move?”

The art-team member studied the spot.

“Keep the opposite side the same?”

“Yes.”

“I don’t want the space itself to look small.”

“I just want the distance between the two people to feel a little shorter.”

The art-team member placed another plan beside it.

After comparing the two, he marked the location with a pen.

“If we adjust the position of this corridor, it should work.”

“Would it affect the overall scale?”

“Not much.”

“But we’d have to coordinate the actual camera position with the cinematography team.”

“Let’s check it together.”

Geonwoo looked at the revised section once more.

“For now, set it in this direction.”

“Understood.”

The art-team member wrote the revision onto the plan.

Only then did Geonwoo take his hand away.

His eyes fell on the chocolate beside him.

He unwrapped one and put it in his mouth.

“Oh.”

“This is better than I expected.”

At that, everyone else unwrapped theirs too.

Smiles soon appeared around the table.

The meeting was nearly over.

Most of the materials had been organized.

As Geonwoo closed the final casting document, his phone vibrated briefly.

He checked the screen.

It was a message from Yoon Jihye.

[Director. The NetPlus meeting is confirmed.]

A date and time were written below.

Another message followed.

[They say this time they’ll make another proposal including global service terms.]

A smile appeared on Geonwoo’s face.

The producer noticed.

“Good news?”

“Yes.”

“The NetPlus meeting is scheduled.”

“Oh.”

“What’s it about?”

“I’ll have to go and hear it directly.”

Geonwoo put his phone away.

The producer organized the documents.

“You’re going to get busy again as soon as you get back from Switzerland.”

Geonwoo laughed while packing his laptop.

“Looks that way.”
