Chapter 1

Chapter 1. Tomb Raider King (1)

That vicious bastard.

Those were the words Dohyun had heard more than anything else over the past two years.

“I've seriously never met a bastard as vicious as you!”

Of course, he knew exactly why people said that.

It was because of those damn tombs.

In 2025, mysterious tombs suddenly began appearing all over the world.

Myths.

Great historical figures.

Legends.

Folktales.

Popular novels.

They said stories remembered by people for a long time carried power.

And those stories suddenly took the form of tombs and appeared in the modern world.

The real problem, however, was what came out of those tombs.

Artifacts.

Just as Prometheus had given fire to mankind, Artifacts granted humans supernatural abilities and enormous wealth.

Anyone could rise above their station.

It was truly an age where even a dragon could rise from a tiny stream.

But that age of opportunity didn't last long.

Once the Artifact management organization known as <Pandora> was established, Artifact Users began to be controlled.

Powerful and wealthy people became members of Pandora, and soon, almost every Artifact belonged to those already in power.

People believed Pandora when it claimed it was protecting world peace and public safety.

Even when they suffered injustice, no one dared rebel because they feared the power of Artifacts.

Yes.

Everyone except one man.

[Seo Jooheon sweeps up Pandora's Artifacts once again.]

[<Artifacts> were never divine gifts meant to advance mankind.]

[The true objective of the Artifacts was humanity's destruction. They were cooperating with <Pandora> to kill humans.]

[<Pandora> knew the truth but remained silent for profit.]

[Evidence discovered that <Pandora> conducted human experimentation to obtain powerful Artifacts.]

[Seo Jooheon saves the world from <Pandora>'s conspiracy.]

[Seo Jooheon becomes Majesty, the King of Artifacts and their supreme administrator.]

Seo Jooheon.

The hero who had saved the world.

The King of Artifacts.

Majesty.

Dohyun had seen those headlines countless times.

On the news.

On giant street displays.

Even on televisions inside bars.

To put it simply, Seo Jooheon became Majesty, the King of Artifacts, during an age of chaos and restored order to the world.

But...

Damn that Seo Jooheon!

Seo Jooheon had saved the world.

Unfortunately, there were people who hadn't wanted to be saved.

“Damn it! Seo Jooheon ruined our business!”

“We were making a fortune selling Artifacts!”

“Things were better when there were no laws! What the hell is this Artifact Law bullshit?!”

Illegal Artifact dealers and those who had worked with monopolists absolutely hated Seo Jooheon.

Dohyun was one of them.

He had survived by stabbing people in the back whenever necessary and made money stealing Artifacts.

People called him one vicious bastard.

But that ended today.

“Damn it! That fucking bastard!”

Dohyun was dying.

“That son of a bitch! He used us as bait and ran away?!”

Huge serpents slithered around him.

This was an unidentified highest-grade tomb that his team leader had discovered.

At first, everyone had entered with shining eyes, believing they'd hit the jackpot.

But after encountering a deadly trap, they ended up like this.

Realizing that he was going to die, Dohyun burst into mad laughter.

“You sons of bitches! I'll never trust another bastard who owns an Artifact! I'll become a ghost and haunt every last one of you!”

His desperate scream echoed throughout the labyrinth.

Then he heard an unexpected voice.

“God, you're noisy as hell.”

Huh?

Dohyun raised his head at the pleasant, low voice.

A tall figure stood there.

Sharp, well-defined features.

A man so handsome that it almost made Dohyun stare in disbelief.

Wait.

A man?

An actual person?

Is he a rescuer?

And then...

Pow!

Dohyun was kicked.

The hooded man who had kicked him without hesitation casually scratched his ear.

“Hey. Why are you making such a damn fuss in a lousy tomb like this? Are you going to take responsibility if the Artifact runs away?”

“????”

W-Who the hell was this guy?

Dohyun was completely confused.

Seo Jooheon himself had internationally prohibited entry into this tomb.

Nobody should have been able to enter...

“Move. You're in the way.”

“Argh!”

Dohyun screamed.

“Stop! I'm injured! Can't you see my leg's been torn off?!”

“Oh. Really?”

The hooded man casually took something out.

[Qin Shi Huang's Fruit of Immortality
(S-Grade / Consumable Artifact)]

Uses Remaining: (1/1)

At first glance, it looked like nothing more than a red fruit.

The man shoved it straight into Dohyun's mouth.

“You're throwing this much of a tantrum just because you lost one leg?”

“Guh! You bastard, what the hell did you just feed me... Huh?!”

Something unbelievable happened.

Light flashed from Dohyun's body.

His missing leg regenerated.

This level of regeneration should be impossible without a Divine-Grade Artifact.

Artifacts were ranked from F-Grade, which were essentially antiques, all the way to SS-Grade, known as Divine Grade.

Something capable of this much regeneration had to be at least SS-Grade.

It was an item that couldn't be purchased even for tens of billions.

Yet this man had used it as casually as if it were a piece of candy.

“I'll only charge you ten billion won.”

“W-What?!”

But Dohyun didn't even have time to be shocked by the price.

He pointed behind the man.

“Behind you! Look behind you!”

He suddenly remembered that this place was a serpent nest.

“Those things ate my teammates!”

A giant serpent opened its mouth and rushed toward them.

The hooded man smoothly pulled out another Artifact.

“Really? Then I'll deal with it.”

[Egyptian Undertaker's Possessed Knife
(C-Grade / Common Grade / Consumable Artifact)]

Uses Remaining: (44/100)

Dohyun nearly despaired when he saw the weapon.

He was an experienced Artifact User himself.

He could recognize its level at a glance.

“C-Grade?! Damn it! You're a complete amateur! Even an S-Grade Artifact didn't work on that thing! There's a reason my teammates got eaten!”

“Ha. Just watch.”

The man vanished.

In the next instant, he struck the serpent's weak points with perfect accuracy.

Stab.

Slash.

Cut.

Hack.

It was as if the weak points were clearly visible to him.

Crunch!

Finally, the enormous serpent collapsed.

The hooded man grinned.

“Your teammates got eaten?”

He climbed onto the serpent's mouth.

“Then we should take them back out.”

He fed the serpent something.

[Medicine That Made Cronus Vomit
(S-Grade / Consumable Artifact)]

The serpent immediately vomited everything inside its stomach.

Dohyun's teammates were among the contents.

“G-Guys!”

“B-Boss!”

Dohyun's eyes filled with tears when he saw his teammates alive.

He looked toward the mysterious man.

“Th-Thank y—”

“One hundred billion won for saving your teammates.”

“What?!”

“Enough. Follow me.”

“W-What?!”

Was he taking them to the exit?

That was what Dohyun assumed.

Instead, the man grinned and shoved him into a room filled with sand.

Snakes began pouring from the ceiling.

“?!”

Dohyun barely avoided them and screamed at the hooded man.

“What the hell are you doing?!”

“What do you think? Crossing the trap myself would be dangerous.”

“What?!”

The snakes dropped to the floor and bit Dohyun.

There was no pain.

No damage.

But then...

“The password to my bank account is 4989...!”

At his sudden confession, the hooded man calmly rubbed his chin.

“Hmm. So it's a trap that forces people to reveal secrets.”

He nodded.

“Fine. Since I know your password now, I can just collect my payment myself.”

He tossed Dohyun's rescued teammates into the sandy swamp as well.

“Are you insane?! What are you doing?!”

The hooded man smiled calmly.

“Why do you think I went through the trouble of saving your teammates?”

What?

A voice echoed from the trap.

[You will die if you do not speak the truth.]

[What is your name?]

The people sinking into the swamp hurriedly answered.

“Jin Jeonghee!”

“Shin Gyeongjae!”

“Alex Walker!”

[False.]

“Argh! I'm not lying! Why is it saying I'm lying...! Gulp! Gulp!”

The hooded man who had just saved them clicked his tongue.

“Seriously? You still trust Artifacts?”

“!”

“Artifacts are evil little bastards. They lie whenever they open their mouths.”

The tall man stepped across their backs and heads as they struggled in the sand.

Then he headed toward the wall.

A golden fang was embedded there.

“Good. So this is the owner of the tomb.”

[Isis's Poison Fang
(SS-Grade / Divine Grade / Consumable Artifact)]

There was normally only one way for a human to become the owner of an Artifact.

Overcome the tomb's trials.

Then earn the Artifact's recognition.

But earning an Artifact's favor was nothing more than a highway straight to the grave.

Artifacts had rotten personalities.

Get too close to them, and they'd eventually make their human owners sick.

Then what should a person do?

The man seized the fang.

Crack!

The fang released a wave of black power, resisting violently.

But the man's power crushed the Artifact's aura.

Dohyun's eyes widened.

He's forcing an Artifact to submit?!

Artifacts could normally be handled using one of three powers.

Dominance.

Affinity.

Compatibility.

Affinity meant getting along with an Artifact.

Compatibility meant being naturally suited to an Artifact, like a gifted musician using a musical Artifact more effectively than others.

Most people relied on those two.

But what this man was using...

“That's Dominance!”

Dominance was the power to suppress an Artifact by force.

He's using the method Artifacts hate the most?!

As expected, the resistance was fierce.

[How dare a worthless tomb raider touch me!]

The hooded man's eyes flashed as if he'd heard this countless times before.

“Want me to grind you into tooth powder?”

Boom!

The fang released its power.

The man crushed it down even harder with Dominance.

[Argh! Damn it! Damn it...! An Artifact submitting to a human...!]

The fang eventually transformed into a knife.

The man shoved it into his pocket.

“Talkative little object.”

Isis's Poison Fang hissed like it was cursing him.

[The <Twelve Executors> will judge your worth...!]

“Twelve Executors?”

The man scoffed.

“Want me to cut you into twelve pieces and deliver one piece every month?”

That was when Dohyun, who had finally realized he'd been used to clear the tomb, shouted at him.

“Who the hell are you?! I'm reporting you to Majesty!”

The man blinked.

“...To Majesty?”

“Yes! I'll tell Seo Jooheon everything! That you stole the Artifact! That you threw me into a trap! Seo Jooheon saved the world! He won't let you get away with this!”

There was a brief silence.

Then...

“Uh... I'm Seo Jooheon.”

Seo Jooheon?!

That bastard?

That day, Dohyun finally understood.

This vicious bastard.

Dohyun had spent his miserable life being called vicious.

But...

There really was someone far worse than me...

Someone he couldn't even compare himself to.

“Oh, right.”

Seo Jooheon turned back.

“Your tomb-clearing fee is one billion won.”

Dohyun stared at him in disbelief.

A tomb-clearing fee, my ass!

“You took the Artifact from this tomb!”

“That's separate.”

Jooheon counted on his fingers.

“Leg regeneration, rescuing your teammates, plus the tomb-clearing fee. Two hundred ten billion won total. Transfer it by tomorrow.”

Fuck...

Dohyun collapsed.

The Great Artifact Era.

The entire world fought, killed, and went completely insane over treasures called Artifacts.

And it had already been two years since Jooheon survived that vicious era of competition and became Majesty, the King of Artifacts.

In those two years, all he had really done was capture Artifacts, beat Artifacts into submission, and create Artifact laws.

He had thought the world had finally become a little safer.

But...

There are still plenty of undiscovered Artifacts.

Myths contained countless dangerous Artifacts.

Some were even capable of destroying the entire planet in an instant.

That was why Jooheon constantly searched for them in advance.

Unfortunately, they were hard to find.

Where the hell are those bastards hiding?

Still, at least he'd gotten one of them today.

Isis should be SS-Grade... no, maybe even SSS-Grade.

[Isis's Poison Fang
(SS-Grade / Consumable Artifact) (10/10)]

[This Artifact steals the target's True Name, taking away their power and killing them.]

[Divine-Grade targets are included.]

Jooheon smiled at the system window floating before him.

Isis is famous for stealing the sun god Ra's True Name.

"To cure you, I need to know your real name. Your True Name."

In ancient Egypt, whether one was god or human, a person's name represented their very existence.

In other words, revealing one's True Name meant exposing one's power.

Once Isis discovered Ra's True Name, she stole part of his authority and passed it on to her son Horus.

That was the power of this Artifact.

It cut away a target's True Name and stole their authority.

Still...

An Artifact that can kill gods?

Unfortunately for it, the Artifact War had already ended.

Majesty, the King of Artifacts, had been born.

“Honestly, I'm not sure when I'd ever need an Artifact this powerful.”

And now that he was going to have a child soon, Jooheon had even more reason to keep the Artifacts under control.

I should leave my child a better world.

And he would become a father who only said kind, beautiful things.

That was when an unfamiliar message suddenly appeared.

[The administrator of this world and the 187,487th <Majesty> has been registered.]

[Seo Jooheon has therefore obtained qualification to participate in the <Majesty War>.]

[Forced Humanity Reset is beginning♥]

[The Humanity Extinction Scenario conducted by the Artifacts is beginning♥]

...

“What the fuck is this now?”

(To be continued.)
