Chapter 32

Chapter 32. City of Dionysus (2)

“You said the Nile River is a transportation Artifact.”

Jooheon’s gaze was cold.

“Was my daughter transported with it too?”

[...Yes.]

Rulebook answered briefly.

Jooheon said nothing for a moment.

Then asked slowly.

“Who used it?”

[......]

“Who used the Nile River?”

After hesitating, Rulebook finally answered.

[The Nile River is an Egyptian Civilization Artifact.]

[Its user serves Lord Ra.]

[One of the Twelve Executors.]

Majesty Yoo Jaeha’s body stiffened ever so slightly.

Jooheon noticed.

But he decided not to ask about it now.

“Rulebook.”

[Yes?]

“Why did they take my daughter?”

[...There was a prophecy.]

A cold silence followed.

[A child with unprecedented talent, capable of dominating all Artifacts, was prophesied to be born.]

[Lord Ra’s Artifact User wants to turn that child into an Artifact.]

Then—

CRACK!

Jooheon’s Dominance exploded outward.

Rulebook screamed.

[AAAAARGH!! Why all of a sudden—!!!]

Jooheon said nothing.

He simply stood there.

That silence was heavier than shouting.

Majesty Yoo Jaeha quietly watched him.

...So he wasn’t hiding his anger.

He was suppressing it.

Jooheon gave a small laugh.

“They want to turn my child into an Artifact.”

[...Yes.]

“That sounds familiar.”

Jooheon’s eyes narrowed.

“Is it the same Majesty who created Julian?”

[...More or less.]

“I see.”

Jooheon turned toward the transport vehicle.

People lay bound inside.

Brands were stamped on their wrists.

It didn’t take him long to understand what this place really was.

“So this is where that bastard gets his materials?”

[Th-That’s—!]

“Perfect.”

Jooheon looked around the Dionysus world.

“A vineyard.”

“A whole world designed to produce raw material.”

He smiled coldly.

“And this Majesty is cooperating with that bastard.”

[Yes!]

[That’s why you can’t destroy this world!]

[They’ll be furious if you do!]

Jooheon’s eyes flashed.

“So...”

The corner of his mouth curled upward.

“If I wreck this place badly enough, that bastard might come here personally?”

[...W-Wait! That’s not what I meant—ugh! Damn it!]

As if it could no longer handle him, Rulebook’s voice vanished again.

Majesty Jaeha stared at Jooheon.

He had just been told that someone wanted to turn his daughter into an Artifact.

And yet he hadn’t exploded.

No.

More accurately...

He’s holding it in.

And while holding it in...

He was already calculating his next move.

“...You really are insane.”

This time, it wasn’t an insult.

Yes.

He was insane.

Majesty Jaeha had already thought that.

But then—

BOOOOM!

“This is beyond insanity.”

Jooheon was destroying even more of the city.

Cup-Ramen Jaeha panicked.

[Hey! Other me!]

[Stop him already!]

[At this rate Captain’s seriously going to become a terrorist!]

But Majesty Jaeha, even in this situation, pointed toward a statue beside a streetlight.

“...That thing on the left is about two grades higher than what he just broke.”

“If he’s going to destroy something, he should at least do it efficiently.”

Cup-Ramen Jaeha screamed.

[THAT’S NOT THE IMPORTANT PART!]

Jooheon’s eyes immediately lit up.

“Really?”

He grinned.

“Useful information. Thanks.”

Then he smashed the fire extinguisher into a golden wine-jar statue.

BOOM!

Security guards came rushing in at the same time.

They aimed Artifact guns at him.

“Stop!”

“Cease immediately!”

“Hands up!”

Jooheon looked amused.

“Wow, fast response.”

“I thought this city only had drunks.”

“Apparently someone here actually works.”

“Don’t even think about running!”

But—

FSSSSSH!

“AAAAARGH!!”

Jooheon sprayed the extinguisher.

A massive torrent of powder engulfed the guards.

Their protective suits and weapons immediately melted down.

Advanced equipment turned into rough scraps of cloth and wooden clubs.

Jooheon’s eyes widened.

“Oh.”

“Combat equipment counts as civilization too.”

“It all regresses.”

He sprayed the extinguisher wildly.

Near the affected area...

Several citizens who had been drunkenly shouting suddenly inhaled sharply.

Their eyes cleared.

Their limp hands stopped moving.

“...What...”

“What have I been doing this whole time...?”

“This... wasn’t a dream?”

They clutched themselves and collapsed.

The street that had been filled with cheering and frenzy moments ago was now covered in screams as people returned to reality.

Then they noticed strange smoke leaking from the destroyed city structures.

Some of them realized what it meant.

“What?”

“Those structures...”

“They were Artifacts making us act strange?”

“But Majesty installed those!”

“Don’t tell me...”

“They weren’t decorations.”

“They were hallucinogens?”

Jooheon smiled.

“Thought so.”

He tightened his grip on the extinguisher handle.

“This city wasn’t insane.”

“It was made insane.”

He walked toward another structure.

A golden grapevine standing in the center of a park.

It was beautiful.

Too beautiful.

It emitted an unnaturally intoxicating glow.

Jooheon swung the extinguisher again.

BOOM!

More people nearby suddenly woke up.

They clutched their heads as their sanity returned.

The security forces watching the scene fell into confusion.

“That structure belongs to Majesty!”

“How is he destroying it?!”

“It should be protected by Majesty’s authority!”

How?

Simple.

Madness 99.

Majesty Jaeha sighed.

The rules of the city.

The protective layers around the Artifacts.

Before Jooheon...

They were little more than decorations.

A giant billboard above them flashed red.

[WARNING]

[Destruction of city infrastructure detected.]

[Majesty-Level Destroyer: Seo Jooheon.]

[Emergency Wanted Order.]

[Emergency Lockdown.]

[All exits sealed.]

[Combat drones deployed.]

Jooheon rested the extinguisher on his shoulder.

“Fine.”

“This should be enough material.”

He pulled Julian out of his bag in law-book form.

“You said restoration was possible with enough material, right?”

Majesty Jaeha looked at him in surprise.

I expected him to act emotionally.

But even after hearing about his daughter...

Jooheon was restoring Julian’s Artifact.

Meaning...

He was preparing for the fight ahead.

Sure enough, Jooheon placed the collected parts beside the law book.

“Your turn.”

He looked at Julian.

“I’ll bring you back.”

[Using restoration ability stolen from Majesty of Creation.]

FLASH!

The ability finally activated.

Julian’s silhouette began reforming inside crimson energy.

Then—

“...What the hell?”

The law book’s shape changed strangely.

This wasn’t Lex Dictum.

It looked like...

A children’s picture book shaped like a pile of poop.

Jooheon stared.

“...This is supposed to be restoration?”

He grabbed the book.

“Hey! Where’s the law code?!”

Majesty Jaeha laughed as though he’d expected this.

“I was wondering what would come out.”

“Impressive.”

Jooheon glared.

“Fix it.”

“The materials were too low-grade.”

Jaeha smiled.

“If you want to restore something on Julian’s level, you need material comparable to this city’s core.”

“In other words...”

“The Dionysus Artifact that actually constructs this city.”

Jooheon’s eye twitched.

This bastard knew and didn’t tell me.

Majesty Jaeha continued.

“Still, that’s impressive.”

“You’re not even a proper restorer, and you got that far.”

I’m definitely killing this smug bastard eventually.

Jooheon sighed.

“Fine.”

Then smiled.

“That actually makes things simpler.”

He looked toward the skyscraper known as Majesty’s Castle.

“The core Artifact should be inside the main building, right?”

Perfect timing.

“If I destroy this city badly enough...”

Jooheon’s eyes sharpened.

“Ra’s Artifact User or whoever should eventually come here too.”

They moved through a dark alley toward the rear of the building.

Security-recognition drones patrolled the perimeter.

But—

[Concealment]

Cup-Ramen Jaeha’s ability activated.

Their presence disappeared into the shadows.

The guards at the entrance didn’t even realize anyone had passed by.

There were security systems too.

That didn’t matter.

FSSSSSH.

Jooheon sprayed the extinguisher Artifact.

Products of civilization turned back into useless scrap.

“Good.”

“Open.”

They descended a narrow staircase leading underground.

The deeper they went...

The heavier and damper the air became.

Mold.

Metal.

The stale smell of ancient machinery.

Finally...

They reached the deepest level.

And froze.

“...What is that?”

A gigantic water tank dominated the underground chamber.

It was large enough to contain a lake.

Around it stood dozens of transparent tubes.

Inside them...

People.

No.

NPCs.

They lay perfectly still.

Eyes closed.

Breathing only faintly.

Like frozen merchandise.

Large grades and price tags were attached to each tube.

[C]

[B]

[A]

Each person had been priced by rank.

Jooheon’s face twisted.

“...You’ve got to be kidding me.”

He looked at the labels.

“What is this, meat grading?”

Majesty Jaeha spoke quietly beside him.

“This grading system...”

His eyes narrowed.

“I recognize it.”

“...?”

He pointed toward a blue seal attached to each tube.

At its center was a familiar recipient code.

“That code belongs to the Majesty who created Julian Miller.”

Jooheon’s eyes sharpened instantly.

Julian’s creator.

The same lunatic Majesty who wanted to turn Jooheon’s daughter into an Artifact.

And this place...

It seemed their suspicion had been right.

“So the Majesty here really is working with that psychopath.”

Majesty Jaeha nodded.

“Looks that way.”

Jooheon smiled coldly.

“Good.”

“Then I’ll steal all of it.”

At that moment—

THOOM.

A heavy sound echoed through the chamber.

The ceiling at the center opened.

Someone slowly descended.

A woman wearing a crimson coat.

A blissful smile covered her face.

“The price for disrupting my city is high.”

Dionysus.

The Majesty who ruled the City of Madness.

She tilted her wine glass and smiled.

“I’ll turn you into my most valuable product.”
