Chapter 45

Chapter 45. Hades (2)

Acquire Demeter’s Artifact and rebuild the city?

Cynthia stared at him.

“You seriously think that makes any—”

Jooheon cut her off.

“Let’s summon Persephone’s Artifact.”

“I had Persephone in my Artifact storage too.”

Majesty Yoo Jaeha’s eyes widened.

“...You’re going to summon her here right now?”

“And Persephone of all things?”

“Wouldn’t that piss Delaira off even more?”

Jooheon nodded calmly.

“That’s why it’s perfect.”

He lightly tapped the ground.

“So.”

“Lend me another Summon Right.”

Jooheon held out a hand toward Cynthia.

She looked displeased.

“Fine.”

“The price for one Summon Right is—”

Jooheon frowned.

“What price?”

“I’m the owner of this city right now.”

Cynthia clutched her forehead.

He said lend.

What he meant was give it to me for free.

Still, looking at the state of her city...

She had little choice.

“Fine.”

“One—”

“Two.”

Cynthia’s blood pressure seemed to rise again.

In the end, Jooheon managed to get two Summon Rights from her.

“Activate Summon Right.”

The system responded.

[Summon Right available.]

[Condition fulfilled: Summoning within owned territory.]

Jooheon smirked.

“This city died because it’s currently in Winter Mode, right?”

“Then if I summon Persephone, it should forcibly switch back to Summer Mode.”

He looked over the ruined city.

“We use that to resurrect the city itself.”

Cynthia stared at him blankly.

“...You’re seriously going to rebuild the whole city?”

Jooheon shrugged.

“I specialize in breaking things.”

“From here on out—”

He unfolded the Summon Right.

Shadows swirled.

Blue flames rose.

“It’s the queen’s turn.”

[Summoning initiated - Persephone.]

[Preparing seasonal transition.]

Light and darkness began mixing throughout the city.

[Majesty-exclusive Summon Right used.]

[Target: Persephone.]

  • Manifests Persephone, Queen of the Underworld and Goddess of Spring.

Jooheon waited with a wicked smile.

Then—

“...Huh?”

The Summon Right didn’t even tear.

Instead, it burned black.

A warning appeared.

[Warning: Summoning impossible.]

[Target does not exist within Worldline B-187487.]

[Target Artifact has been forcibly removed to another worldline: Delaira’s Territory.]

[Only Artifacts currently existing in Worldline B-187487 can be summoned.]

Jooheon’s eyebrow twitched.

Majesty Jaeha, watching beside him, chuckled.

“What’s wrong?”

“Did you pull a dud?”

“No.”

Jooheon’s expression darkened.

“Someone stole it.”

That was right.

When Delaira invaded Jooheon’s worldline...

She hadn’t merely spread the plague.

She had stolen Persephone’s Artifact.

“This thieving bitch.”

Had the attack on Zeus been a diversion?

Apparently, Delaira had taken both Persephone and the empty shell of Demeter’s Artifact.

The realization caused Jooheon’s murderous aura to spread across the city.

Majesty Jaeha gave a small laugh.

“Well, that’s a problem.”

“Without the queen, rebuilding the city is going to be difficult.”

Jooheon’s failed Persephone summon finally burned away completely.

He laughed in irritation.

“Ha.”

“She stole my property?”

Jaeha shrugged.

“And Delaira is hiding inside her own territory.”

“Dragging out a Majesty who’s gone into hiding isn’t easy.”

“You can’t track them?”

“Not easily.”

“Do you have any idea how annoying Majesties become once they hide?”

Jooheon swung Hades’s staff.

“Then let’s make a law.”

Jaeha blinked.

“A law?”

Jooheon answered casually.

“Wherever my property is becomes my territory.”

“!”

It was absurd.

But in this man’s world...

Absurdity became precedent.

And precedent became law.

Black light erupted upward.

FLASH!

Jooheon looked at Hades.

“Track Persephone.”

“You can do that, right?”

[Possible.]

“Thought so.”

He grinned.

“You stalker bastard.”

The shadows went berserk.

A black highway shot outward in a perfectly straight line, ignoring buildings and roads.

It was the shortest route connecting territories of death.

Jooheon expected the shadow to cross into Demeter’s worldline.

Instead...

It landed somewhere inside this very Dionysus world.

Jooheon raised an eyebrow.

Then realization struck.

“Hey, wine woman.”

“You haven’t been charging rent all this time, have you?”

Cynthia stared at him.

“...What?”

“Rent?”

Jooheon pointed toward the shadow.

“Delaira didn’t just build a district here.”

“She’s been living inside your city.”

“?!”

Delaira had been inside this world the entire time?

Jaeha whistled.

“Wow.”

“That makes her intentions pretty obvious.”

Cynthia looked genuinely shaken.

Another Majesty had secretly established herself inside Cynthia’s city.

This had gone far beyond cooperation.

It was practically a regency.

And all this time...

Cynthia had been delivering people to Delaira every month under the name of taxation.

She covered her eyes.

“I thought this city was my kingdom...”

Her voice was hollow.

“Looks like I was just a tenant farmer.”

It was the voice of someone realizing how foolish and ignorant she had been.

Jooheon laughed.

“If you’ve got time to cry, grab some tools.”

“Illegal construction should be demolished properly.”

The shadow deepened.

An endless expanse of farmland.

Delaira was smiling.

“At last.”

“I can finally use Demeter’s Artifact perfectly!”

Thanks to stealing from Seo Jooheon’s world, Demeter’s Artifact was finally complete.

And Persephone’s Artifact was now in her hands too.

This is everything I needed.

Demeter’s Artifact possessed two seasonal abilities.

Winter Mode.

Summer Mode.

Winter Mode could invoke death, disease, withering, and scarcity.

Summer Mode could nurture life and produce abundance.

Its power of prosperity was extraordinary.

But to activate Summer Mode...

Possession of Persephone’s Artifact was an absolute requirement.

And that Artifact had been in Jooheon’s worldline.

That had been the problem.

But now...

After being mocked for so long as incomplete...

Delaira was finally whole.

“Now I can enter too...!”

Then—

The soil beneath her feet turned into shadow.

“...?”

A black hand burst from the ground and grabbed the farmland.

CRUNCH!!

The entire field split apart.

Its color drained away.

Golden wheat turned gray and died in an instant.

The sky seemed to sink lower.

Only then did Delaira realize.

This wasn’t merely an attack.

Sure enough...

Jooheon’s voice echoed throughout her territory.

“Hey.”

“Thieving bitch.”

The farmland was no longer farmland.

The golden earth created through Persephone’s Artifact was being forcibly annexed into the soil of the Underworld.

And then...

The voice of the one responsible descended directly before her.

“You stole someone else’s property.”

“The least you could’ve done was leave your front door unlocked.”

Jooheon laughed.

“Now then.”

“Demeter.”

“Persephone.”

“And the Dionysus Artifact you’ve been arrogantly claiming ownership over.”

His smile sharpened.

“I’m taking all of them.”

Delaira gritted her teeth.

“How dare you...!”

Then she suddenly laughed.

Dionysus’s power began rampaging under her command.

“Don’t misunderstand, Seo Jooheon.”

“The true owner here isn’t you.”

Her voice multiplied across the space, dripping with ridicule.

“When that useless Dionysus idiot was drunk and clueless...”

“Who do you think completed this entire system?”

“Who acted as the ‘true owner’ in place of that stupid farm manager?”

She smiled.

“Me.”

Delaira snapped her fingers.

Space distorted.

Betrayne, the one who had designed this city, had personally taught Delaira how to operate it.

Cynthia had merely received diluted instructions afterward.

“You think stealing this city made it yours?”

“Don’t make me laugh.”

“No matter how much you struggle...”

“You’re still a tenant farmer.”

“I’m the true lord of this city.”

[Delaira activates Dionysus’s Artifact, the city core.]

[Pleasant intoxication transitions into hangover.]

[Primary Effect: Oblivion.]

Several memories began slipping out of Jooheon’s mind.

Names.

Memories.

Judgment.

His thoughts blurred.

His reasoning eroded.

Even the reason he had come here began disappearing.

But—

[Attempting to apply Oblivion.]

[Failed.]

[Reason: Target’s mental state exceeds acceptable parameters.]

...What?

Delaira’s eyes widened.

For a moment...

It felt as though all sound vanished.

As if the system itself had given up and declared:

This lunatic is beyond my jurisdiction.

Jooheon chuckled.

“That’s strange.”

“You called it Oblivion.”

He smiled.

“So why do I keep remembering how much I want to rip your head off?”

Delaira didn’t even have time to ask what the hell that meant.

[Madness: 99 → 100 (MAX)]

[Critical threshold reached.]

Delaira stepped backward.

“...One hundred?”

“What kind of—”

Only then did Jooheon look directly at her.

“Ah.”

He grinned.

“Looks like things aren’t going the way you planned.”

“What?”

Then—

[Intoxicated by overwhelming Madness.]

[Madness: 100.]

[Status: Removed from classification of ‘Normal.’]

Within Delaira’s world...

The very definition of ‘normal’ shattered.

(To be continued.)
