Chapter 107

Chapter 107. God Does Not Play Dice (1)

“You’re here? I’ve been waiting for you.”

When Yukgap reached the agreed meeting place, the man who had ordered the chocolate was already waiting.

Yukgap immediately shoved the box toward him and emphasized,

“Here. Your chocolate.”

“This thing is insanely dangerous, so don’t open it carelessly.”

“But it definitely works on women, so you can relax about that.”

The man blinked.

“Wait. ‘Women’?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“The coworker I’m in love with is a man, just like me.”

“Whaaaaaaaaaat?!”

Yukgap froze at the completely unexpected answer.

He had never even considered that the confession might be to someone of the same sex.

The customer blushed and continued as though nothing was strange.

“But the confession already worked out.”

“He decided not to leave after all.”

“I guess I really did the right thing by gathering my courage and confessing.”

“Well, since things turned out this way, I’ll still give him the chocolate.”

“Hahahahaha...”

All Yukgap could do was laugh hollowly.

“You’re right.”

Victoria nodded lightly after hearing what had happened.

“There’s no reason the person a man loves has to be a woman.”

“I guess even I had a narrower perspective than I realized.”

Yukgap, who had suffered through all kinds of trouble because of the delivery, felt completely deflated.

“Anyway, never make something like that again.”

“I seriously almost died.”

“Oh, come on. You came back perfectly fine.”

Victoria waved him off.

“Isn’t being loved by that many women supposed to be every man’s dream?”

“What dream?”

“I want nothing to do with a dream like that.”

Having every female in sight cling to him regardless of age or even species had not been pleasant in the slightest.

It had felt more like being caught in a natural disaster.

Victoria, on the other hand, seemed to find the whole thing amusing.

“Still, I didn’t know your jaguar friend could be that aggressive.”

She sounded impressed.

“A woman should have that kind of initiative.”

“I learned something new.”

“Don’t learn that.”

Yukgap answered immediately.

Victoria’s intelligence combined with No. 7’s initiative could create a disaster beyond imagination.

For the sake of everyone’s safety, he desperately wanted to prevent that combination.

“Why not?”

Victoria grinned.

“It sounds romantic.”

Apparently, she had decided the entire situation qualified as some kind of sweet romance.

Yukgap had no idea which part of it was supposed to be romantic.

For him, the entire ordeal had been exhausting.

“Love really is impossible to understand.”

Victoria thought about that for a moment.

Then she nodded.

“I agree with you there.”

“I’m back.”

No. 7 staggered into the hideout.

She looked exhausted, as though she had been through something unpleasant.

No. 8 noticed something was off and cautiously asked,

“Where have you been?”

Bang!

Instead of answering, No. 7 slammed her fist into a nearby wall.

A hole opened in it, and cracks spread across the surface.

Her eyes gleamed dangerously.

“If you don’t want to die, don’t ask.”

“Y-Yes.”

No. 8 immediately shut his mouth.

His instincts told him nothing good would come from saying anything more.

No. 7 then sharply questioned him.

“Where’s Lambda?”

“No. 11?”

“He’s in the laboratory.”

Ever since his body collapsed during the bacterial attack, No. 11 had remained confined to the laboratory.

No. 7 immediately headed there.

“Hey, Lambda!”

“I’m here!”

No. 11, dressed in a lab coat, greeted her.

“You’re back?”

The moment she saw him, No. 7 demanded,

“So when is your body going to recover?”

“I’m going insane from boredom. Hurry up and give me something to do!”

“As it happens, we received new instructions from Abraxas.”

No. 11 spoke gently, as though he understood exactly how she felt.

Then he handed her a document.

“What’s this?”

“Thanks to the previous bacterial infection, we have roughly completed a DNA map of Koreans compatible with Alpha.”

“The accuracy is not perfect.”

“But it should be sufficient to create a vessel capable of containing the Wisdom of God.”

No. 7 had already heard that the large-scale infection was intended to identify people with genetic compatibility similar to Alpha.

It had taken No. 11 some time to recover from his collapsed body, but apparently the original objective had still been achieved.

“A ship will arrive soon.”

No. 11 continued.

“And here, we will construct a magnificent vessel capable of containing the Wisdom of God.”

No. 7’s face brightened.

“So I’ll finally get to go wild too?”

No. 11 answered as though soothing a child.

“As it happens, Alpha gave an instruction.”

“She said, ‘The sixth friend is coming to meet us.’”

“Oh?”

No. 7’s eyes flashed again.

She looked exactly like a predator spotting prey.

No. 11 knew perfectly well what she was thinking.

“Please wait just a little longer.”

No. 7 answered firmly,

“I won’t say anything else.”

“That bastard is mine.”

“Don’t give him to anyone else.”

“Of course.”

No. 7 gripped the document tightly in her hand.

Almost as though the gesture represented her determination never to let anything slip away from her again.

[La-la-la-la-la-la-la...]

Tiny singing voices came from every direction.

Yukgap looked around.

“Victoria, what the hell did you make this time?”

Small marshmallows filled every direction he looked.

Above.

Below.

Right.

Left.

And on top of that, the marshmallows were continuously dividing while singing loudly enough to hurt his ears.

“I only wanted to make marshmallows that multiply infinitely!”

Victoria looked just as horrified by the restaurant overflowing with them.

Apparently, even she had not expected this.

“Why would you make something like that?!”

“Because then we could eat infinite marshmallows!”

“This is a revolution in nutritional science!”

“Then why are they alive and singing?!”

“Because just sitting there normally sounded boring, so I added that feature!”

Even while they argued, the marshmallows continued multiplying.

If this went on, the entire restaurant would be buried beneath them.

“This isn’t going to work.”

Yukgap grabbed his dagger.

“I’ll deal with them.”

Victoria screamed.

“No!”

“Why?”

As though answering Yukgap’s question, all the marshmallows singing around them suddenly shouted in unison,

[Combine!]

The marshmallows immediately piled together into one enormous white mass.

A gigantic humanoid figure made entirely of marshmallows rose up.

It raised a huge white fist.

[Combined Mobile Machine! Marshmallow Final White!]

Yukgap stared blankly.

What the hell was this supposed to be?

Victoria hurriedly explained,

“Just in case something happened, I gave them a function that lets them combine and protect themselves when they sense danger!”

“Why would you put that function in marshmallows?!”

The giant white marshmallow raised its fist and shouted the name of its attack.

[White Punch!]

“Damn it. You want to fight?”

Yukgap raised his dagger and gritted his teeth.

Then a sharp metallic scent of blood suddenly filled the air.

It was a smell he recognized.

[Uoooooooh...]

At the same time, the marshmallow giant began shrinking rapidly.

Looking closer, its outer surface was being broken down by a thin mist that seemed to be made of blood.

“This is...”

Yukgap trailed off.

Then a familiar voice came from the restaurant entrance.

“It looked dangerous, so I stepped in.”

“I didn’t interfere unnecessarily, did I?”

Yukgap turned toward the entrance.

Sure enough, a familiar face stood there.

He grinned.

“Not at all.”

“Good timing, No. 5.”

[Drink coffee, fleshbag continuing your meaningless existence.]

Despite calling her a guest, Robert handed No. 5 a cup of coffee with his usual attitude.

No. 5 silently stared at the cup.

“Is this safe to drink?”

“Our restaurant golem has a foul mouth.”

Yukgap tried to reassure her.

“But he’s good at making coffee.”

Only then did No. 5 seem to relax.

“Anyway, there is only one reason I came to find you.”

Her voice became heavy.

“I believe Alpha’s plan may be behind our desertions.”

“Yeah.”

Yukgap quietly nodded.

No. 5 looked surprised.

“You’re not shocked.”

“I already suspected as much.”

“The others I’ve met have said similar things.”

He had heard variations of the same idea during several encounters with other Archons.

By now, Yukgap had half expected it.

“Then why is Abraxas allowing us to move freely?”

No. 5 muttered bitterly.

Yukgap thought for a moment, then shook his head.

“I don’t know that either.”

“Maybe there’s something they want us to accomplish while we search for our families.”

No. 5 avoided his eyes for a moment.

Then, in a quieter voice, she continued.

“...Doctor Nova told me that when you went to the village I mentioned, you encountered No. 11 and No. 10.”

Apparently, she was worried Yukgap suspected her because of what had happened.

Understanding her concern, he quickly answered,

“That was a trap.”

“They probably predicted you would secretly leak the information and deliberately let you learn the location of that village.”

No. 5 urgently leaned toward him.

“I truly wanted to help you.”

“Please believe me.”

“There’s nothing to believe or not believe.”

Yukgap answered firmly.

“I’m not suspicious of you.”

He knew perfectly well No. 5 had not lied to him.

For one thing, she simply was not cunning enough for that kind of deception.

And if she had truly wanted to trick him, she would have used a different method.

More importantly, Abraxas might have deliberately arranged everything this way to make them distrust each other and create internal conflict.

Yukgap had no intention of losing even one ally right now.
