Chapter 111. God Does Not Play Dice (5)
Crunch!
No. 10’s enormous jaws clamped down on Robert’s body without warning.
The reinforced shell protecting the golem was torn away in an instant, sending parts flying in every direction.
[Frame damage! Frame damage!]
Robert urgently sounded an emergency warning.
No. 10 deliberately chewed on the pieces of Robert’s armor right in front of them.
“Weak.”
Victoria stared in disbelief.
“Robert’s body is made from a special alloy created through alchemy. How did you...?”
“My bite force exceeds twenty tons.”
No. 10 answered flatly.
“A golem like this is no sturdier than paper.”
Victoria had considered Robert’s armor a serious defense.
To No. 10, apparently, it was barely worth mocking.
Then Kevin’s voice came through her earpiece.
[The die says ‘Escape.’]
[Run.]
Only then did Victoria snap back to reality.
“Robert! Emergency escape mode!”
The moment she gave the order, the heavy defensive armor covering Robert’s body dropped away with loud mechanical clanks.
Freed from all that extra weight, Robert immediately retreated with Victoria still riding on him.
[Evacuate! Evacuate! Evacuate!]
“Where do you think you’re going?!”
No. 10 charged after them with his enormous jaws spread wide.
Victoria stared at the blood-red maw rushing toward her as though it intended to swallow her whole.
“Run faster! Hurry!”
Robert’s firepower had not even scratched him.
And he possessed enough strength to casually bite through Robert’s armor.
Victoria had no answer for someone like that right now.
[I am already retreating at maximum speed!]
Robert answered urgently.
Fortunately, after shedding his heavy armor, he was able to pull away from No. 10 faster than expected.
“Where are we supposed to go?”
Victoria looked around in confusion while clinging to Robert.
She had followed Kevin’s order and escaped.
The problem was that she had no idea what she was supposed to do next.
“Victoria! Over here!”
Yukgap’s voice suddenly called from the distance.
Victoria spotted him and immediately asked,
“You’re running away too?”
“I ran into the worst possible matchup.”
Yukgap answered bitterly.
Sure enough, No. 7 was chasing him with her beast form fully manifested and her eyes practically rolled back in frenzy.
“Hahahahaha! You’re not getting away this time!”
She clearly was not in a normal state.
Victoria glanced at Yukgap.
“Doesn’t she like you?”
“That’s the problem.”
Yukgap quickly prepared to keep running.
“Anyway, let’s get out of here!”
“If we stay, nothing good is going to happen!”
“You don’t have to tell me twice!”
They had both encountered the worst possible opponents for them.
On top of that, the die had told them to flee.
Neither had any intention of staying.
Victoria and Yukgap simply ran.
And kept running.
With the flutter of wings, No. 8 landed nearby.
For some reason, No. 5 was collapsed on the ground, bleeding and twitching weakly.
No. 11 stood nearby, watching her with fascination.
No. 8 tried to sound composed as he reported the situation.
“I checked the entire area.”
“As Alpha predicted, No. 6 encountered No. 7 and fled.”
“The golem and the alchemist creating the disturbance at the front also retreated after confronting No. 10.”
“What about anyone else?”
No. 11 asked.
No. 8 immediately shook his head.
“No one.”
“That was everyone.”
“Thank you, Theta.”
Even while speaking, No. 11 never took his eyes off the fallen No. 5.
He looked almost delighted by the situation.
“Ugh...”
No. 5 continued to groan faintly as blood leaked from her nose and mouth.
She was barely clinging to life.
No. 8 glanced at her.
“What are you going to do with her?”
“Alpha ordered me not to kill her.”
“And with an Archon’s regeneration, she’ll recover soon enough.”
No. 11 hummed happily.
“I merely hope this incident teaches her a lesson.”
What lesson?
For some reason, No. 8 felt deeply uncomfortable looking at him.
[What happened?]
Kevin’s urgent voice suddenly came through the earpiece still lodged in No. 5’s ear.
Barely conscious, she forced her mouth open.
“I-It...”
[Answer me, No. 5! What happened?]
Kevin asked again, sensing something was badly wrong.
But No. 5’s lungs and airway had been damaged.
She could barely produce a voice.
Then something suddenly scooped her up.
“Hup!”
It was Yukgap.
For some reason, he was in his cheetah form and sprinting forward at full speed.
Victoria was beside him, riding on Robert.
“Put her on Robert!”
Victoria shouted.
“She needs emergency treatment!”
“You’re not going to feed her something weird, are you?”
Yukgap asked suspiciously.
Victoria snapped,
“This isn’t the time for jokes!”
Only then did Yukgap obediently place No. 5 on Robert’s back.
Victoria immediately began injecting her with the medicines she had prepared.
“I brought antibodies from last time and an Elixir-based recovery medicine just in case.”
“This should get her back on her feet quickly!”
As the medicine entered her body, a sharp tingling sensation spread through No. 5.
