Chapter 117. Beef Stew Just for You (2)
“This is enormous.”
Victoria muttered as she swept her flashlight across the equipment inside the ship.
Most of it had been disabled by the EMP bomb she created, but the scale alone was unlike anything she had ever seen before.
“Seriously. It looks like they were trying to transport an entire building inside this ship.”
Nova, standing beside her, also used a flashlight to inspect the surroundings.
The dark interior of the ship, now abandoned by the remaining Abraxas personnel, was filled with broken machinery and seawater.
The two could barely make their way forward with only their flashlights.
“So what did the Abraxas people say?”
Nova asked while searching the ship.
Victoria shook her head with a troubled expression.
“They said their only job was to guard the cargo.”
“They claim they don’t know what’s inside the ship or what any of it is for.”
“I tried threatening them and coaxing them several times, but it was useless.”
“They probably compartmentalized the information internally to prevent leaks.”
Nova’s guess made sense.
Victoria shared her own thoughts.
“The only one who probably knew the full plan was that fat bastard.”
“I’m not sure exactly how their hierarchy works, but the other Archons seemed to follow his orders more than you’d expect.”
While the two continued talking, Kevin’s voice came from outside the ship.
“Are you still investigating, Doctor Frankenstein?”
“Give us a little more time.”
Victoria answered indifferently.
“This isn’t something we can finish in five minutes.”
Kevin sounded worried.
“If we don’t find anything meaningful, my mercenary group could end up in a difficult position.”
“If Abraxas decides to openly sue over this incident, we won’t have much room to maneuver.”
Kevin’s mercenaries had already rounded up the remaining Abraxas personnel.
With all the Archons, who could be considered the true leaders, having escaped, the people left behind had been little more than a disorganized mob.
Only one question remained.
What exactly had Abraxas been planning to do in Korea?
That was why Victoria and Nova were searching through the dark ship.
“So basically, we just need to find enough evidence to justify what happened?”
Nova summarized.
Victoria nodded.
“Exactly.”
“We’re planning to tell the public that Abraxas was preparing a large-scale terrorist attack in Korea, and Kevin’s mercenary group happened to discover it and stopped them beforehand.”
Korea was a country with strict gun laws and a well-developed legal system.
They had openly fired weapons and even deployed private mercenaries on Korean soil.
If the legal system got involved without a proper explanation, things would become troublesome very quickly.
Kevin’s mercenary group needed a legitimate reason for having acted.
“If we can prove that much, it gives me a proper justification for mobilizing my people.”
Kevin explained from outside.
“It also gives us a way to put public pressure on Abraxas.”
“I have connections with Korean politicians and media outlets.”
“If I put enough money in the right hands, they’ll make this incident look very big indeed.”
Nova looked around and complained,
“But all we’ve found are experimental devices.”
“Even if we want evidence, there’s nothing decisive here.”
The equipment scattered throughout the ship certainly suggested Abraxas had been preparing something enormous.
But there was no conclusive proof.
“Huh?”
Victoria suddenly raised her voice.
“What’s this?”
Nova hurried over.
A large monitor sat there, soaked with water, its monochrome screen still flickering faintly.
Victoria tilted her head.
“If my EMP bomb hit this, there’s no way it should still be working.”
There’s something here.
Nova immediately sensed it.
She thoroughly searched around the flickering monitor.
Then she shouted sharply,
“This is it!”
“This has to be the ship’s main computer!”
Victoria looked mildly offended.
“It survived my EMP better than I expected.”
Nova inspected the hardware and explained,
“They built an electromagnetic shielding system around it using some kind of special alloy.”
“That’s probably why part of the main computer is still functioning.”
“Think this is Abraxas overtechnology too?”
“Probably.”
Nova nodded.
“Abraxas is always producing technology far beyond current human science.”
They were already insane enough to combine humans and animals and turn them into biological weapons.
Something like this would hardly be difficult for them.
“So can you hack it?”
Victoria asked.
Nova immediately took out her laptop and connected a cable to the main computer.
“I can try.”
Tap, tap-tap.
The sound of rapid typing echoed through the ship.
Nova stared intensely at the screen and worked without stopping.
After some time, she sighed.
“It’s password protected.”
“Looks like they restricted access so only key personnel can enter the main system.”
“I can’t get any farther without the password.”
She turned her laptop toward Victoria.
Only a stark message appeared on the screen.
[Please enter your password.]
[Hint: The starting point of all sins.]
“The starting point of all sins?”
Victoria stared at the hint.
Nova cautiously guessed,
“Could it be the Fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil from Genesis?”
“Humanity ate it, sinned, and was expelled from Eden.”
Victoria fell into deep thought.
No. 11 would never use such an obvious password.
There had to be something else.
Something.
Something more.
Then the words No. 11 had spoken before escaping flashed through her mind.
“That fat bastard said they were going to kill their imperfect god.”
Nova tilted her head.
“Imperfect god?”
“What does that mean?”
