Chapter 116. Beef Stew Just for You (1)
No. 5’s nanomachines surged upward like a red mist.
They stretched into long tendrils, desperately trying to reach No. 8.
But he was simply too high in the air.
“Damn it!”
No. 5 cursed under her breath as she manipulated the nanomachines.
Victoria hurriedly asked,
“Can’t you reach him?”
“Even if I use every nanomachine I have, they can’t climb that high.”
No. 5 specialized in close combat.
An enemy who could remain airborne was naturally difficult for her to deal with.
No. 8 knew that as well.
He aimed the Noise Gun downward.
BEEEEEEEEEP!
A piercing blast erupted, and an enormous vibration slammed toward the ground.
Caught completely exposed, No. 5 and Victoria were swallowed by the impact.
“Ghhhk!”
“Aaaaaah!”
Both screamed and crashed into the ground.
It felt as though their entire bodies had been struck by a giant battering ram.
No. 8 looked down at them and spoke indifferently.
“I hope you understand.”
“Alpha gave no particular instructions regarding this.”
“But I can’t simply stand by while more deserters appear.”
He aimed the Noise Gun downward once more.
Neither of them had any way to reach him in the air.
He intended to keep bombarding them until they could no longer move.
Then, suddenly, the sound of rushing water echoed through the area.
“What?”
No. 8 stopped attacking and looked around in confusion.
The deck of the ship behind them opened wide.
An enormous volume of water began pouring out.
No. 9 and No. 10 came spilling out with it.
“Aaaaaaaah! My fish!”
“Ghhhh! No. 6, you bastard!”
Both were helplessly swept along by the torrent and thrown outside.
Why had they appeared like this?
No. 11 looked equally baffled.
“What happened?”
No. 10 panted as he answered,
“No. 6 got inside, opened the deck, and drained all the water from the ship!”
“And that’s not all. He destroyed the entire main system inside!”
No. 11 stared at him in shock.
“What?”
“Didn’t we place No. 9 inside specifically to prevent an intrusion?”
Meanwhile, No. 9 was busy trying to gather the Nine Fish that had been washed outside with him.
“Waaaaah, my Nine Fish...”
“I’m sorry! I’ll get you back into the sea right away...”
“Waaaaah! I’m sorry, I’m sorry!”
The Nine Fish, suddenly stranded on land, could do little more than flop around while gasping for breath.
No. 10 sighed.
“...No. 6 fooled him completely.”
Yukgap then appeared from the corner of the opened deck.
When the water started pouring out, he had apparently grabbed onto a nearby railing to avoid being swept away.
“Ugh, I’m soaked.”
He was still completely drenched.
Yukgap shivered and shook the water from his body.
Victoria’s face immediately brightened.
“You did it, Yukgap!”
“Barely.”
Yukgap grinned despite being soaked from head to toe.
They had been badly outnumbered.
And in a way, they had entrusted everything to an absurd plan based almost entirely on luck.
Yet somehow, it had worked.
Even Yukgap found the result a little ridiculous.
“Do you really think this means you can stop Abraxas?!”
No. 11 suddenly shouted at them.
His face twisted with fury as he raised his voice.
“You may have succeeded this once!”
“But we have far more money and time than you do!”
“If we fail, we can simply try again as many times as necessary!”
“Then we’ll stop you as many times as necessary!”
Victoria immediately shouted back.
She clenched her teeth and glared at No. 11.
“If doing that saves even one more person...”
“If it keeps even one person from losing their family...”
“Then that’s enough!”
No. 11 openly sneered.
“You’re feeling some cheap sense of heroism over saving a handful of people?”
“What do you think that will accomplish?”
“No. 11.”
Victoria’s voice turned sharp.
“No. Aiden Maxwell.”
“You’ve never been loved before, have you?”
No. 11’s face went pale for a brief moment.
Victoria did not stop.
“To someone who loves you, you are their entire world.”
“Maybe you’re right.”
“Maybe the number of lives we can save is nothing more than a handful.”
“But to their families, saving that one person is the same as saving the whole world!”
Victoria’s voice rang across the harbor.
It felt as though she were not speaking only to No. 11.
She was speaking to all of Abraxas beyond him.
“We’ll fight you to the very end to protect someone’s world.”
“Because every one of us has a precious world of our own!”
No. 11’s face twisted red and blue with rage.
Finally losing his composure, he raised the cane in his hand.
“You stupid blonde!”
