Chapter 115

Chapter 115. A Trap Within a Trap (4)

“Right now, that female alchemist is completely infatuated with me.”

Yukgap even forced himself to make a sorrowful expression.

The thought of being romantically involved with Victoria made him want to die, but he had no other choice right now.

“She’s naturally suspicious, so it wasn’t easy to fool her completely.”

“That’s why I pretended to join this attack and approached you.”

“I needed to transmit the research results I’ve stolen so far to Alpha.”

As he spoke, Yukgap even took out the EMP bomb he had been given earlier.

No. 9 stared at it.

“Is this the research result?”

“There’s a ton of information Alpha ordered me to collect inside this.”

“If I don’t deliver it to her quickly, she might get angry.”

“Hmm. It looks kind of suspicious.”

No. 9, surprisingly, showed some doubt.

Yukgap immediately pressed him.

“Don’t tell me you’re planning to disobey Alpha’s orders.”

The moment he heard that, No. 9 went pale.

“Of course not!”

“I just didn’t receive any specific orders about this.”

To the Twelve Archons, Alpha’s commands were absolute.

They could not refuse her orders.

Even doubting her intentions was unthinkable.

That should have been true even for No. 9, who was famous for not thinking very much.

“It was a top-secret mission, so it couldn’t be helped.”

“More importantly, No. 7 got jealous and started acting on her own, so she almost ruined everything.”

“That’s why I’ve been moving as quietly and secretly as possible.”

At Yukgap’s excuse, No. 9 nodded as though it made sense.

“Well, No. 7’s been getting more hysterical ever since you deserted.”

“She keeps running around everywhere looking for you.”

Yukgap sighed as though life were unbearably difficult.

“Haaah. This is why being handsome is such a burden.”

“You have no idea how terrifying women’s jealousy can be.”

No. 9 looked at him with envy.

“I’m jealous.”

“I want a fun mission like that too.”

“Playing with the Nine Fish underwater is nice, but it gets a little boring.”

“They can’t talk.”

The hostility he had shown earlier had vanished completely.

Yukgap had blurted out the lie just to survive.

He had never expected No. 9 to swallow it so completely.

Trying to remain calm, Yukgap said,

“When I finish this mission and return, I’ll put in a good word for you with Alpha.”

“Maybe she’ll give you a special secret assignment too.”

“Really?”

No. 9 brightened.

“Thanks!”

Yukgap almost felt guilty for deceiving someone so gullible.

But that was not important right now.

He casually made another suggestion.

“Speaking of which, can you guide me to the center of the ship?”

“I want to deliver the research results to Alpha quickly and return as soon as possible.”

“Sure! Just follow me!”

No. 9 led the Nine Fish and leisurely swam through the flooded interior.

I survived.

Watching him, Yukgap quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

The die had told him to “give up” the fight, so he had switched tactics on the spot.

He had never expected it to work this well.

Maybe I’m actually good at lying.

[I had no idea you were this good at deception.]

Kevin, who had been listening through the earpiece, sounded genuinely impressed.

Yukgap answered dryly,

“Try working in customer service.”

“You’ll learn to lie whether you want to or not.”

Yukgap continued swimming through the flooded ship behind No. 9.

No. 9 even hummed cheerfully as he guided him all the way to the central section without a trace of suspicion.

There, a huge waterproof computer had been installed.

“This is it?”

No. 9 immediately nodded.

“Yeah.”

“This thing is important, so we were told to manage it carefully and make sure it never gets wet.”

“I don’t really understand it, but they said it’s a key component of the Sophia Project they’re restarting in Korea.”

“Is that so?”

Yukgap cheered inwardly.

He removed the waterproof cover from the main computer.

Then he installed the EMP bomb near the central wiring.

“What are you doing?”

No. 9 asked curiously.

Yukgap quickly improvised.

“I’m going to use the main computer to transmit all the information I collected to Alpha.”

“Really?”

“I told you, didn’t I?”

“Just wait a little.”

Yukgap anxiously waited for the EMP bomb to activate.

There were no more obstacles.

No. 9 had been completely fooled.

All that remained was for the bomb to work properly.

“What are you doing, No. 9?!”

A deep shout suddenly came from nearby.

No. 10 came swimming through the water toward them, sending currents in every direction.

“Oh, you’re here?”

No. 9 greeted him happily.

No. 10 exploded at him.

“Why are you letting a deserter access the main computer?!”

“He said Alpha gave him an order.”

“He’s transmitting the information he gathered to her.”

No. 9 answered with an innocent expression.

No. 10 shouted back,

“What ridiculous nonsense is that?!”

“It’s obviously a lie!”

“Whaaaaaaaaaat?!”

No. 9’s face twisted in shock.

He immediately turned toward Yukgap.

“Is that true?”

“Oh, that?”

Yukgap openly grinned.

“Of course it was a lie.”

“You actually believed me?”

At that moment, a heavy vibration shook the ship.

Nearby doors opened.

The seawater filling the interior began rushing out at tremendous speed.

Only then did No. 9 realize the severity of the situation.

“W-What?!”

“What did you do?!”

“Just in case, I messed with the system a little.”

Yukgap answered casually.

“All the water in here is about to drain outside.”

For aquatic-type creatures like No. 9 and No. 10, losing the water would put them at an overwhelming disadvantage.

No. 10 immediately realized Yukgap’s intention.

“Manipulate the main system again!”

“Don’t let the water drain any further!”

“That probably won’t work.”

Yukgap answered calmly.

A powerful electromagnetic pulse suddenly swept through the area.

At the same time, every system aboard the ship shut down.

The water, meanwhile, continued draining even faster.

“The main system controlling this ship just got completely fried.”

“I doubt you’ll be able to operate it again.”

Yukgap grinned.

“And thanks for bringing me all the way here.”

No. 9 screamed in horror.

“Y-You tricked meeeeeee!”

“Your fault for falling for it.”

Yukgap even stuck out his tongue at him.

Then he threw himself toward the torrent of water rushing outside and shouted,

“You aquatic bastards!”

“Let’s fight on land!”

BEEEEEEEEEP!

A piercing sound erupted, followed by a heavy impact that shook the area.

Victoria took the attack head-on and was violently hurled away.

“Ugh!”

She barely swallowed the groan rising from her throat.

No. 8 watched her with admiration.

“Impressive.”

“You took a direct hit from the Noise Gun and you’re still alive and moving.”

His overtechnology weapon, the Noise Gun, could send several trucks flying with a single blast.

Compared to the other Archons, No. 8 lacked physical strength.

But his weapon’s destructive power was something he took pride in.

And yet Victoria had taken several direct hits and kept getting back up.

Her tenacity was astonishing.

“That’s because I’m the genius and beautiful alchemist Victoria!”

Victoria struggled to her feet.

No. 8 tilted his head.

“I fail to see how that has anything to do with this.”

Then he fired the Noise Gun again.

Another sharp noise exploded.

A crushing impact slammed into Victoria.

BEEEEEEEEEP!

“Aaaaaah!”

Her body bounced across the ground like a ball.

Seeing Victoria so helpless, No. 11 shouted urgently,

“Kill that blonde!”

“Hurry!”

Apparently, he wanted revenge for what she had done to him.

No. 8, however, looked doubtful.

“Calm down.”

“Have you forgotten Alpha’s order not to kill Doctor Frankenstein?”

“Then you’re just going to leave her like that?”

No. 11 demanded.

No. 8 sighed.

“I’ll simply injure her enough that she can no longer stand.”

He aimed the Noise Gun at Victoria again.

Then sudden, chilling pain shot through his hand.

Blood began dripping down from it.

“Hm?”

No. 8 forgot to fire and stared at his hand.

It was slowly being eaten away, as though something invisible were disassembling it.

As far as he knew, there was only one person capable of an attack like this.

“Ugh...”

Victoria groaned and forced herself upright again.

Someone reached out and supported her.

It was No. 5.

“Are you conscious?”

Victoria weakly asked,

“Where’s Yukgap?”

“He already infiltrated from another direction.”

“I was curious about how things were going here and found you along the way.”

Victoria jerked her chin toward Robert’s ruined body.

“Your bat friend destroyed Robert with his attacks.”

“And I ended up like this.”

“You took a direct hit from No. 8’s Noise Gun.”

No. 5 answered.

“That’s hardly surprising.”

“Why didn’t you simply retreat?”

Victoria raised her eyes.

“That disgusting fat bastard was standing right in front of me.”

“How was I supposed to leave?”

Apparently, her competitive fury toward No. 11 was the only reason she had stubbornly remained here.

“No. 5.”

No. 8 calmly spoke after her sudden appearance.

“Are you truly going to become an enemy of Abraxas?”

No. 5 quietly nodded.

“Yes.”

“There is something more important to me now.”

“What is it?”

No. 5 answered without hesitation.

“Family.”

“My son is somewhere in this world.”

“And for my son’s sake, I’ll fight all of you!”

Red mist surged violently around her body.

Her nanomachines filled the air with a terrifying presence.

No. 8 clicked his tongue.

“Your nanomachines really are frightening.”

“They disassemble everything they touch.”

He immediately spread his wings wide and flew into the air.

Circling overhead, he asked jokingly,

“But I wonder if they can reach someone flying this high.”
