Chapter 114

Chapter 114. A Trap Within a Trap (3)

Yukgap approached the Abraxas ship again and quickly surveyed the area.

Fortunately, aside from several piles of cargo, there did not seem to be anyone waiting to interfere with him.

“Good. No one’s here.”

“Then let’s get this over with.”

Yukgap took a breath, kicked off the ground, and accelerated.

If he wasted any more time, there was no telling what else might happen.

He needed to finish this as quickly as possible.

“Where do you think you’re going?!”

At that moment, No. 10 burst out from one of the nearby cargo piles with a roar.

He had wrapped himself in old cloth, apparently using it to conceal his scent.

“Whoa!”

Yukgap stopped abruptly in surprise.

No. 10 spoke triumphantly.

“I knew you would come back.”

“Alpha told me so.”

So he had been sitting there dressed like that the entire time, waiting for Yukgap to return?

The sight of one of the mighty Twelve Archons reduced to something so ridiculous was absurd.

But now was not the time to dwell on it.

Yukgap quickly reversed his grip on his dagger.

“Is that so?”

“Then I’m curious what your precious prophecy says is going to happen to you.”

“Do you intend to continue our previous fight?”

No. 10 asked.

“If so, I’ll gladly oblige.”

He immediately activated his overtechnology weapon, the carbon-fiber reinforced armor.

Thick, pitch-black reinforcement flowed over his body and covered him completely.

No. 10 growled.

“I’m still furious that a deserter like you nearly defeated me last time!”

As though eager to erase that humiliation, he opened his enormous jaws and charged straight at Yukgap.

If those jaws caught him, his body would probably be torn in half instantly.

“You still only know how to charge straight ahead!”

Yukgap quickly dodged the attack.

He slipped past No. 10 by a hair and immediately sprinted toward the ship.

“H-Hey! Where are you going?”

No. 10 looked bewildered when Yukgap avoided him instead of engaging directly.

Yukgap openly mocked him.

“Are you stupid?”

“My objective was to infiltrate the ship from the beginning.”

“I don’t need to beat you in a fight.”

His destination was right in front of him.

Why waste time fighting an opponent whose entire specialty was being absurdly difficult to damage?

Realizing Yukgap’s intention, No. 10 flew into a rage.

“You coward!”

“If that bothers you, come stop me yourself.”

Yukgap laughed.

“Though with that slow body of yours, I doubt you can!”

No. 10 immediately shouted,

“Come out!”

“Stop No. 6 by any means necessary!”

At his command, Abraxas soldiers hidden around the area sprang out.

Yukgap quickly counted them and muttered in disbelief,

“You’re planning to stop me with this few people?”

“I know I’m a deserter, but I’m still one of the Twelve Archons.”

“That’s pretty insulting.”

He tightened his grip on his dagger and accelerated.

His body became one enormous streak that swept across the area.

The armed soldiers caught in his path could do little more than scream.

“Ghk!”

“Aaagh!”

“Ugh!”

They had no time to react.

To Yukgap, who could break the sound barrier, they were far too slow.

By the time most of them even realized they were under attack, they had already collapsed.

Yukgap casually flicked the blood from his blade.

“I avoided the vital points.”

“You won’t die.”

Seeing even the soldiers defeated so one-sidedly, No. 10 thundered after him in fury.

“Stop right there!”

“If you were me, would you stop?”

Yukgap snorted and quickly reached the ship’s entrance.

He hurriedly used the key No. 5 had given him.

Fortunately, he could not sense anyone inside.

“Good.”

“If I just open this door and get insi... Huh?”

Something suddenly seized his leg with tremendous force.

Then it dragged him into the ship.

Yukgap was caught completely off guard and slid inside.

“Ghk!”

Cold water enveloped his entire body.

He tried to speak, but only bubbles escaped his mouth.

Only then did Yukgap realize that the inside of the ship was completely filled with seawater.

“Long time no see, Zeta.”

The one who had dragged him inside slowly emerged through the water.

Sharp teeth.

A pointed dorsal fin.

Eyes filled with hunger.

No. 9.

He was smiling at Yukgap in a deeply unsettling way.

“I reaaaaally missed you.”

No. 9 licked his lips and moved closer.

“Alpha told us that if an attack occurred, everyone should evacuate and we should fill the ship with seawater.”

“This ship can also function as a submersible, so that wasn’t difficult.”

Only then did Yukgap understand why the soldiers had been waiting outside instead of inside the ship.

The interior had been flooded specifically to turn it into No. 9’s territory.

There was nowhere else for them to stay.

“Still, this is pretty unfair.”

No. 9 slowly circled him, pushing Yukgap toward a corner.

“Ambushing people is supposed to be my job, but you stole it from me.”

“Hm?”

He looked almost as though he intended to play with Yukgap before killing him.

“Damn it!”

Yukgap gritted his teeth and struggled desperately toward the surface.

No matter how powerful his acceleration ability was, he was underwater.

And the water belonged to No. 9.

With no backup nearby, fighting him here was impossible.

“Slow.”

“Slow, slow, sloooooow!”

“You’re way too slow!”

Underwater, No. 9 was faster.

He shot toward Yukgap in an instant and sank his sharp teeth into his body.

A chunk of flesh was ripped away, and blood bloomed through the water.

Yukgap instinctively screamed.

“Ghk!”

“This is different from last time.”

No. 9 chewed on the piece of Yukgap’s flesh while chuckling.

“It’s just you and me here.”

“No one’s going to interfere.”

Then he paused.

“Oh, right.”

“I guess we aren’t completely alone.”

A school of vicious-looking fish suddenly came thrashing through the water.

No. 9’s overtechnology weapon.

The Nine Fish.

“Gwaaaaaagh!”

The Nine Fish circled No. 9 with vicious cries.

No. 9 looked proudly at them.

“My Nine Fish are here too.”

“And just so you know, they’ve gotten more vicious, crueler, and hungrier since last time.”

“I put a lot of effort into raising these ones!”

The Nine Fish opened and closed their mouths eagerly, looking ready to tear Yukgap apart at any moment.

This is bad.

Encountering No. 9 underwater was already terrible enough.

Now the starving Nine Fish were here too.

At this rate, Yukgap would be torn apart alive beneath the water.

[Yukgap, are you all right?]

Kevin’s voice came through his earpiece.

Yukgap panted as he answered.

“No.”

“I’m underwater somehow, and I’m surrounded by starving sharks.”

[I’ll roll the die.]

Maybe the die would give him some way out.

Yukgap held his breath and waited.

Then Kevin’s uneasy voice came through.

[Oh.]

“What is it?”

[It landed on ‘Give Up.’]

Yukgap’s eyes widened.

“What?”

“You want me to give up in this situation?”

[That is what the die says.]

Give up?

Even if Yukgap surrendered, there was no chance No. 9 would simply let him leave.

He had no obvious way to escape either.

What am I supposed to do?

Then an idea flashed through his mind.

“Wait.”

“‘Give up’ can mean several things, can’t it?”

Meanwhile, No. 9 approached with his jaws spread wide, clearly eager to settle their last fight.

“You remember what I said last time, right?”

“That I was going to bite you to pieces!”

“I’ve been waiting for this moment!”

His eyes gleamed viciously.

There was no chance he planned to let this go.

Yukgap quickly stopped him.

“W-Wait, Iota!”

“What?”

No. 9 snapped irritably.

“I’m hungry. Talk fast.”

Yukgap hesitated for a moment.

Then he forced the words out.

“Listen to me first.”

“The truth is...”

“I never deserted Abraxas.”

“What?”

No. 9 stopped in confusion.

“What are you talking about?”

Yukgap hurriedly continued his lie.

“Didn’t Alpha ever tell you that she gave me a special mission?”

Fall for it.

Fall for it.

Please fall for it.

Yukgap repeated the thought desperately.

It was a complete gamble.

But since the die had told him to “give up” the fight, this was the only thing he could think of.

“...Now that you mention it.”

No. 9 looked confused.

“Alpha did say, ‘The sixth friend is working hard for us.’”

He bought it?

Yukgap immediately continued.

“R-Right!”

“I only pretended to desert.”

“I was secretly following Alpha’s orders the entire time!”

“She told me to get close to the alchemist who opposes Abraxas and steal her research results.”

“Why would you do that?”

No. 9 asked.

“Infiltration is No. 7’s job.”

“That’s... uh...”

Yukgap hesitated.

“Because the alchemist is a woman.”

“Hehe.”

He gave an awkward smile.

No. 9 stared at him blankly.

“What does that have to do with anything?”

“It has everything to do with it.”

Yukgap leaned his face forward and smiled deliberately.

“Have you ever heard of a honey trap?”

No. 9 recoiled in shock.

“You mean you seduced that female alchemist?”

He fell for it.

Yukgap realized immediately.

No. 9 had completely swallowed the lie.

If he played this properly, he might be able to use it for even more.

Yukgap continued with complete shamelessness.

“Yeah.”

“I don’t like saying this about myself, but I’m pretty handsome, you know?”

“That’s true.”

No. 9 studied Yukgap for a moment, then sighed and nodded.

“Everyone else looks terrifying.”

He was not wrong.

Most of the Archons had intimidating, rough-looking faces.

That was why Yukgap had often been chosen whenever a mission required someone to operate openly around ordinary people.

He had never imagined that fact would help him like this.

Yukgap quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
