Chapter 158

Chapter 158. The Conductor, No. 11 (4)

“Nova!”

Victoria hurriedly caught Nova.

Nova collapsed into her arms, coughing painfully.

“Cough! Cough!”

Her complexion had gone deathly pale.

The symptoms were getting worse by the second.

Then Victoria noticed the broken pieces of the glass flask No. 4 had thrown earlier.

The moment she saw them, she understood what was happening.

“Everyone, hold your breath!”

“Abraxas must have released a lethal bacteria!”

No. 4 did not deny it.

“You catch on quickly.”

Victoria glared at him and snapped,

“Your methods are always obvious!”

No. 4 replied in his usual emotionless tone.

“Massacring people is normally my specialty.”

“But if I did that here, you might get caught in it too.”

“No. 11 anticipated that and gave me a bacterial weapon instead.”

So it really was No. 11’s doing.

Now that she understood the situation, Victoria’s mind began racing.

The bacteria had already spread.

If this continued, Nova and the nuns would be in danger.

She had to do something.

“Cough! Cough!”

Victoria suddenly crouched down and began coughing violently.

Then she looked up at No. 4 with a grimace.

“Oh no... Cough!”

“I think I got infected too.”

“Cough, cough!”

“If I die from this, Alpha is going to be really, really angry!”

Since the Archons obeyed Alpha absolutely, Victoria intended to use her relationship with Alpha as leverage.

But No. 4’s answer was cold.

“Victoria Frankenstein.”

“Even if you are infected, you will recover quickly.”

“The Philosopher’s Stone embedded in your chest constantly maintains your body in a perfect, ideal state.”

“H-How do you know that...?”

Victoria faltered, caught completely off guard.

No. 4 looked at her as though she were ridiculous.

“Did you truly believe Alpha would fail to know something so obvious?”

Apparently, threatening No. 4 with her own safety would not work.

She needed another method.

Victoria tightened her arms around Nova and shouted again.

“B-But Nova might die if this continues!”

“Wasn’t your objective to capture me and Nova?”

“It doesn’t matter.”

“All we need is Nova Hanson’s ‘brain.’”

No. 4’s skeleton began twisting with loud cracks.

His bones and muscles expanded.

Animal hide spread over his human skin.

His voice became a mixture of human speech and a beast’s growl.

“The rest of that lump of flesh can end up however it likes.”

Thick black fur sprouted around No. 4’s neck, forming a dark mane.

His eyes narrowed sharply.

Fangs emerged from his mouth.

Soon, he had transformed into the shape of a massive male lion with a black mane.

He growled low.

“Victoria Frankenstein.”

“Every living thing here except you will die.”

“That will not change.”

With those words, he launched himself forward.

He looked like a predator wrapped in darkness, charging out to hunt.

At that exact moment, one of the nuns suddenly stepped in front of him.

“That remains to be seen.”

The nun slowly raised her head.

No. 4’s eyes widened when he saw her face.

“Epsilon?”

“What are you doing here?”

The nun blocking his path was No. 5, a fellow member of the Extermination Team.

Apparently, she had deliberately put on a nun’s habit and hidden among the escaping sisters to avoid being noticed.

“There is something I desperately need to find.”

“To accomplish that, I’m maintaining cooperation with this convent.”

“No. 4.”

“Delta.”

No. 5 spoke flatly.

But that was not what mattered to No. 4.

“Alpha gave the order.”

“Move.”

“And if I refuse?”

Judging from her tone, No. 5 was serious.

No. 4 answered without hesitation.

“I’ll kill you.”

“You’ll kill me?”

No. 5’s eyes gleamed.

Her skeleton began to expand.

Cold, hard scales spread across her skin.

Soon, the form of a massive, starving reptile emerged over her body.

She snapped her whip-like tail through the air.

“Then try it.”

“Do you intend to oppose Alpha?”

“You haven’t forgotten the duty of an Archon, have you?”

No. 4 openly radiated hostility.

Of all things, he seemed unable to accept that a fellow member of the Extermination Team was standing against him.

But No. 5 remained firm.

“I found something more important than the duty of an Archon.”

“What?”

No. 5 dragged her sharp claws deeply across her own arm.

Then she gave a single short answer.

“Family.”

Blood dripped down between No. 5’s dark blue scales.

It quickly transformed into a red mist and filled the surrounding area.

Apparently, she intended to release the nanomachines in her blood from the very beginning and settle this fight immediately.

No. 4 narrowed his eyes.

“There is no reason for us to fight each other.”

“Then give up massacring the nuns.”

No. 5 did not budge.

Not even slightly.

“Does it really have to be like this?”

“What if it does?”

No. 4 stretched out both arms.

Thick black chains shot from his sleeves.

He wrapped them around both arms like gauntlets.

“Then we fight.”

Apparently, there was no other answer.

No. 5 manipulated the nanomachines she had released outside her body and muttered,

“Then so be it.”

With those words, both Archons charged each other at the same time.

The furious roars of two beasts echoed throughout the area.

“Hahahaha!”

“Die!”

“Just die already!”

No. 3 charged while wildly swinging his longsword.

There was no finesse.

No precision.

He was simply intoxicated by his own strength and swinging with everything he had.

Yukgap blocked the attacks with his entire body and clicked his tongue.

“This bastard has completely lost it.”

No. 3’s attacks were little more than the tantrum of a child who had stopped thinking.

The problem was that each tantrum carried absurd strength.

Shockwaves thundered through the area with every swing.

And because there was no pattern to his movements, Yukgap could not predict where the longsword would come from next.

As Yukgap struggled to block No. 3’s attacks, a burning pain suddenly erupted in his chest.

“Cough! Cough!”

Yukgap doubled over, coughing violently.

No. 3 openly sneered at him.

“Hard to breathe?”

“Cough, cough!”

“W-What did you do?”

The sudden coughing fit left Yukgap barely able to think.

No. 3 looked delighted.

“We spread bacteria created by No. 11 earlier.”

“We were vaccinated in advance, so we already have antibodies.”

“But you don’t.”

“So you might feel a little sick.”

It was No. 11’s bacterial operation after all.

Yukgap breathed heavily.

“Still fighting dirty, I see.”

No. 3’s expression instantly twisted.

“Dirty?”

“You spent years killing people without a problem, and now you want to pretend you’re some good guy?”

No. 3 charged at Yukgap.

He screamed at the top of his lungs as he came.

“You’ve always pissed me off!”

“Why are you the one who always gets assigned to missions involving pretty women?!”

“I want to hang out with women toooooo!”

No. 3 poured all his accumulated resentment into his weight and brought the longsword down.

Yukgap hurriedly raised his dagger to block.

The impact sent a numbing shock through his entire body.

“Ghk!”

Unable to withstand all of it, Yukgap staggered backward.

Even though both of them wielded ultrasonic monomolecular cutters, the raw strength behind their attacks was completely different.

At this rate, No. 3 would eventually pound him into paste.

“This is unfaaaaair!”

No. 3 screamed and smashed his longsword down at Yukgap.

I can’t block that.

Realizing it instantly, Yukgap accelerated.

The blade barely grazed past his head before crashing into the ground.

BOOM!

A long tremor rolled through the area.

Yukgap leaped away from the shockwave and hurled his dagger with all his strength.

“Then blame Abraxas for giving you a face like that!”

No. 3 roared as he knocked the flying dagger away.

“Useless!”

Yukgap’s dagger ricocheted away like a baseball and embedded itself in the wall.

No. 3 immediately exploited the opening.

He swung the longsword with all his strength toward Yukgap’s chest.

“Ghk!”

A tremendous impact tore through flesh and shattered bone.

Yukgap’s upper body was ripped open as he was thrown into the wall.

He let out a strangled cry.

No. 3 looked at him and giggled.

“Don’t worry.”

“I’m not going to kill you right away.”

He raised his longsword with a wide grin.

The fangs protruding from his mouth gleamed ominously.

“I’m going to slice that pretty face off again and again...”

“Until even your regeneration finally reaches its limit!”

“Kahahahaha!”

Red mist swirled through the area.

At its center, No. 5 swung her inward-curving claws.

Every movement dragged the red mist along behind her.

“Is that all?”

A mocking voice cut through the haze.

A black chain shot through the red mist like a whip.

It moved with unnatural flexibility and slammed hard into No. 5’s chest.

“Ghk!”

The attack struck directly at a vital point.

No. 5 staggered backward.

It was a clever technique.

The chain inflicted tremendous blunt force without leaving a puncture wound.

No. 4 was clearly doing it deliberately.

He was preventing her from creating more wounds and releasing additional nanomachines from inside her body.

No. 5 clenched her teeth.

Fighting someone who knew her abilities so well was not going to be easy.
