Chapter 185

Chapter 185. A Goodbye for You (1)

Nova could only stare blankly at the thunderous shout.

Once she finally came to her senses, she immediately recognized the one who had saved her.

“Yukgap?”

Nova called his name cautiously.

Still in his cheetah form, Yukgap panted heavily and muttered,

“Looks like sprinting here faster than sound the moment my body recovered was worth it.”

Apparently, he had spotted Nova falling from the building and immediately launched himself after her.

Because he had taken the full impact with his own body, one of his arms was broken badly enough that the bone had shifted out of place.

Nova noticed it and stared in horror.

“Your arm...!”

“Don’t underestimate an Archon’s regeneration.”

“This much will heal in a few minutes.”

Yukgap answered weakly.

Just as he said, the injury was already repairing itself with a series of sickening cracks.

His regenerative ability was astonishing no matter how many times Nova saw it.

“Yukgap! Is Nova okay?”

Victoria’s desperate voice came from the rooftop above.

Nova jumping must have terrified her.

Yukgap immediately shouted back,

“Don’t worry!”

“Nova’s fine!”

“I caught her!”

“Thank goodness...”

On the rooftop, Victoria finally let out a breath of relief.

Alpha, however, shrieked furiously.

[What are you doing?!]

[Fly down there and capture Nova Hanson right now!]

No. 8, still hovering in the air, let out a small sigh.

“Haah. The troublesome jobs always fall to me.”

He glided down smoothly toward the floor where Yukgap and Nova had landed.

Yukgap immediately assumed a combat stance and growled.

“You want to try me?”

“Don’t worry.”

“I’m not confident in close combat anyway.”

No. 8 said that while drawing his overtechnology weapon, the Noise Gun.

He pointed it at Yukgap and Nova.

“I simply intend to use this.”

The tip of the Noise Gun gave off a faint glow.

No. 8 raised it to his mouth.

Then a piercing cry rang out.

“EEEEEEEEEE!”

The sound spread outward and transformed into a massive vibration that slammed into the area.

The building shattered under the battering-ram-like force, sending debris flying in every direction.

Nova screamed instinctively at the overwhelming power.

“Aaah!”

Yukgap immediately twisted his body and wrapped himself around Nova.

If nothing else, he intended to use his own body as a shield.

But the shock from the Noise Gun was so powerful that it sent a painful vibration through even his body.

“Ghk, you bastard!”

Yukgap clenched his teeth.

No. 8 flapped his wings lightly and moved toward the side of the building.

Then he fired the Noise Gun again.

“EEEEEEEEEE!”

His cry once again became an enormous vibration and crashed into the structure.

Watching the repeated attacks, Nova realized something.

“He’s deliberately destroying only the building’s support structures!”

“He’s trying to bury us!”

“That bastard might be physically weak, but he’s smart.”

Apparently, since No. 8 could not win in close combat, he intended to collapse the terrain around them and corner them that way.

No. 8 kept the Noise Gun trained on them and spoke as though offering them a favor.

“Why don’t you surrender?”

“I have no intention of harming you.”

“Just hand over Nova Hanson.”

“No.”

Yukgap answered without hesitation.

No. 8 tilted his head.

“Why?”

“Is that woman another employer of yours, like Victoria Frankenstein?”

He genuinely seemed unable to understand Yukgap’s behavior.

Yukgap looked him straight in the eye.

“No.”

“She’s just a regular customer at our restaurant.”

“Is that really so important?”

“Of course it is!”

“Restaurant Shelley does everything it can to keep its customers satisfied!”

“Regulars are especially important!”

“You really do obsess over the most pointless things.”

No. 8 muttered as though he had expected nothing less.

Then he aimed the Noise Gun again.

“EEEEEEEEEE!”

Another massive vibration slammed into the building.

This time, it struck one of the pillars directly.

The structure slowly began to tilt.

Unable to endure it any longer, Nova shouted,

“Yukgap, just abandon me!”

“At this rate, you’ll get buried too!”

But Yukgap remained firm.

“Forget it!”

“They’re obviously planning to use your brain for something awful.”

“How am I supposed to stand by and let that happen?”

“You’ll be in danger too!”

“Don’t worry.”

“I may not be the best at fighting, but running away is my specialty.”

Yukgap quickly scanned the surroundings.

Fortunately, the emergency exit had not collapsed yet.

An ordinary person could not withstand movement at sonic speed.

Especially not a child like Nova.

He needed to lower his speed to something her body could endure and get them out of here as quickly as possible.

“And where do you think you’re going?”

At that moment, a chilling pain tore into Yukgap’s neck.

Blood sprayed as he collapsed to one knee.

“Ghk!”

No. 7 appeared in front of him.

Now in her Archon form, she resembled a black jaguar and flexed her razor-sharp claws.

“I told you to wait quietly, didn’t I?”

“If you keep doing this, I’m going to get angry.”

Apparently, she had been waiting under cover of her cloaking suit for the perfect opportunity to strike.

Yukgap clutched the wound on his neck and answered,

“How long have you been hiding there?”

“I just got here.”

“You simply didn’t notice me.”

No. 7 glanced at Nova beside him.

Her displeasure was obvious.

“There’s another woman hanging around you.”

“That’s really irritating.”

Yukgap stared at her in disbelief.

“What are you thinking?!”

“Nova is only fourteen!”

“I don’t care.”

“I hate seeing any woman beside you.”

“You think I wasn’t already barely tolerating that stupid blonde?”

No. 7 raised her sharp claws.

Her green eyes gleamed.

“So I should get rid of her.”

She looked ready to tear Nova apart on the spot.

No. 8 immediately warned her.

“No. 7!”

“You must not destroy Nova Hanson’s brain!”

“That is Alpha’s order!”

“So as long as the brain stays intact, it’s fine?”

No. 7 answered casually.

Then she looked below Nova’s neck and licked her lips.

“Then I can do whatever I want to everything below it!”

With those words, No. 7 shot forward as a black streak.

Her claws were aimed directly at Nova’s throat.

“Stop!”

Yukgap immediately threw himself between them.

No. 7 abruptly stopped.

She glared at him and asked mockingly,

“Did getting beaten half to death earlier teach you nothing?”

“Do I need to break your spine again before you understand?”

Instead of answering, Yukgap raised his dagger.

Then he quickly spoke to Nova.

“Nova, run.”

“I can’t beat No. 7!”

“What? But...!”

Nova tried to argue.

Yukgap shouted,

“Go!”

“O-Okay!”

Overwhelmed by his urgency, Nova hurried toward the emergency exit.

The moment her prey tried to leave her sight, No. 7 immediately moved to chase.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

Yukgap accelerated and instantly cut her off.

He raised his dagger and breathed heavily.

“What are you doing?”

“You said your opponent was me, didn’t you?”

Interest flickered in No. 7’s eyes.

Apparently, she had not expected Yukgap to say that.

She even gave a pleased hum.

“Hmm.”

“If you tempt me like that, how am I supposed to resist?”

“You’re doing it on purpose, aren’t you?”

“Think whatever you want.”

Winning was not what mattered.

He only needed to buy as much time as possible.

With that single thought, Yukgap lunged toward No. 7.

“EEEEEEEEEE!”

At that moment, an enormous blast of sound erupted.

The impact slammed directly into Yukgap.

Caught completely off guard while charging No. 7, he was hurled into the wall.

“Gah!”

A painful groan escaped Yukgap.

No. 7 immediately snapped angrily,

“What are you doing?!”

“How many times do I have to tell you that I’m the only one allowed to touch him?!”

“Alpha’s orders take priority for me.”

“We cannot waste time like this.”

No. 8 answered indifferently.

No. 7 clicked her tongue.

“Tch.”

“Fine.”

“We’ll just finish quickly.”

The two slowly surrounded Yukgap, who was embedded in the wall.

Yukgap struggled to pull himself free and complained,

“Isn’t this a little harsh for members of the same Tracking Team?”

No. 8 and No. 7 briefly looked at each other.

Then they replied flatly,

“I suppose it is a little excessive.”

“But what can we do?”

“We have orders.”

Apparently, negotiation was impossible.

Yukgap forced himself back to his feet and looked around.

“I was planning to stay behind and buy time.”

“But if it’s going to be like this, there’s only one thing I can do.”

No. 7 tilted her head.

“What?”

“Run.”

The moment he said it, Yukgap accelerated.

His body became a brief afterimage and vanished beyond the emergency exit.

Only his cheerful farewell came echoing back from the distance.

“Bye, then! Hahaha!”

Nova ran through the dark emergency stairwell, panting heavily.

The farther down she went, the more smoke and heat poured up toward her.

“Where am I supposed to go?”

She had run because Yukgap told her to, but this was not much different from before.

Still, Yukgap had gone through all that to save her.

She could not let herself die helplessly now.

Nova clenched her teeth and tried desperately to find the fastest way outside.

“Ugh!”

Then a horrible pain suddenly surged from deep inside her head.

It was familiar.

Far too familiar.

But why did it have to happen now?

“Why now?! Ughhhhh!”

Nova staggered while clutching her head.

The pain grew worse by the second.

But she had already thrown away all her painkillers.

Now she was drifting alone in an endless ocean of agony.

“Mom?”

Then a young voice came from the other side.

Nova barely managed to hold onto consciousness.

“Wh-Who... who’s there?”

Several children suddenly came running out.

They immediately began chattering around Nova.

“You’re not Mom. You’re a pretty lady.”

“Where are the other grown-ups?”

“Miss, have you seen my mom?”

Every one of them looked younger than ten.

With toys and picture books scattered nearby, this appeared to be some kind of children’s playroom.
