Chapter 59. Cheetahman, the Hero of Justice (3)
Yukgap reflexively froze at Subin’s words.
She wasn’t wrong.
Abraxas was persistent and cruel.
Even if the target was a child, if they learned that the child knew something about Yukgap, there was no telling how ruthlessly they might act.
That was clearly what Subin was worried about.
“I’m sorry. But I want to keep innocent children from getting dragged into anything involving Abraxas.”
“...All right.”
Yukgap could not argue with that.
Victoria cautiously stepped in.
“Hmm. So the problem is if the children get a good look at Yukgap and recognize what he really is, right?”
“What are you getting at?”
Yukgap asked with a sudden sense of dread.
In his experience, whenever Victoria sounded like this, some bizarre idea was about to appear.
Victoria answered meaningfully,
“Don’t worry. I prepared something for exactly this kind of situation.”
“Yaaawn.”
Seongryeol slowly opened his eyes.
Then he realized that his surroundings were completely different from before.
“Where am I?”
Their field trip was supposed to be at the zoo.
But the bus had arrived at a dark, gloomy dock.
All of his friends around him were fast asleep.
It seemed like he was the only one awake.
“Why is everyone like this?”
Seongryeol hesitantly moved forward, feeling uneasy.
Then he spotted his teacher talking to an unfamiliar adult beside the bus.
His face on the verge of tears, Seongryeol called out,
“Teacher?”
The broker immediately frowned at the unexpected appearance of the child.
“What the hell? One of them woke up.”
“That’s strange. The dose should have been enough.”
The teacher clicked her tongue.
Seongryeol stared at her fearfully.
Then she suddenly pulled out a syringe.
“Come here. Be a good boy and get some more sleep, okay?”
Her expression was as gentle as usual.
But the syringe in her hand was ominous enough to overturn that entire impression.
Seongryeol shook his head in fear.
“N-No.”
“Stay still. It’s just medicine to help you sleep.”
Ignoring him, the teacher roughly grabbed Seongryeol by the back of the neck and tried to push the needle into him.
The sight of the needle coming closer terrified him.
He burst into tears.
“Waaaaah! Mooooom!”
“Ugh, crying again. I hate whining brats more than anything.”
The teacher scowled at Seongryeol.
She wanted nothing more than to knock him out again and finish the deal without trouble.
“Stop right there!”
A strange shout suddenly rang out.
“Who’s there?”
The teacher whipped her head toward the voice.
A man and woman in oversized helmets and brightly colored tights stood there.
“When the world groans beneath the pain of crime! When the cries of the innocent reach our ears! In the name of justice, we gladly rise!”
The woman in a pink helmet and tights struck a dramatic pose and shouted in a shrill voice.
The huge man beside her awkwardly continued,
“For love, order, and the peace of the world... Victoria, do I really have to say this part?”
“Hurry up! Don’t you know you’re supposed to stay in character right now?”
They were Yukgap and Victoria, their identities hidden beneath the helmets and tights Victoria had prepared.
The two stood proudly in ridiculous heroic poses.
The broker stared at them in disbelief.
“What the hell are those?”
Yukgap hesitated in embarrassment.
“I-I am the hero of justice... Ch-Cheetahman!”
Victoria, unlike him, shouted proudly,
“And I am his partner, Alchemist Girl!”
The broker quickly asked the teacher,
“You know them?”
“No! I’ve never seen them before either!”
Apparently, even the people behind the kidnapping had no idea who these intruders were.
The broker clicked his tongue.
“Tch. More annoying pests.”
He slowly lifted his trench coat.
Several long tentacles tipped with spikes emerged from beneath it.
The broker pointed them toward the sudden intruders and smiled darkly.
“I guess you figured out the children were kidnapped and came here, but you picked the wrong people to mess with. I’ve modified my body several times at the Crescent Moon Auction... Guh!”
He never finished.
Yukgap accelerated in an instant and drove his fist straight into the broker’s face.
“What are you rambling about, slowpoke?”
Yukgap growled in his beast form.
The broker could barely comprehend what had happened after watching him move faster than the eye could follow.
“W-Who the hell are you?”
“The hero of justice, Cheetahman.”
Yukgap answered reluctantly.
Truthfully, he did not want to wear such childish clothes or call himself “Cheetahman.”
But just as Subin had feared, revealing his true identity to the children could bring trouble later.
That was why he had put on Victoria’s ridiculous disguise and was now playing hero.
“For the record, Cheetahman hates people who hurt children more than anything.”
Yukgap gripped his daggers.
“I’ll make sure you survive. Barely.”
Then he began slashing the broker without pause.
The broker swung the tentacles growing from his body in retaliation.
But they were nowhere near fast enough to keep up with Yukgap.
“What the hell are those guys?!”
