Chapter 29

# I Became the Loan Shark Queen’s Grandson!

## Chapter 29

“We need to focus on procedural defects in the will itself and on hidden assets. In particular, the eldest son’s recent transaction history is extremely damaging.”

“Good. What happened with the financial records?”

The lawyer showed me a file.

“We secured copies of the bank accounts and two months of transaction records. The withdrawals are clearly visible.”

Kim Dong-su spoke with a grim expression.

“Taesan, I never thought the eldest son would go this far. He’s openly taking the deceased’s assets.”

I shook my head.

“Uncle, put your emotions aside. We attack with documents.”

I suppressed my own anger too.

We went down to the courthouse cafeteria in the basement.

Food trays sat in front of us.

But no one touched their chopsticks.

The tension was too heavy to eat.

Kim So-jeong spoke first.

“The moment the lawsuit was filed, the other side must have become nervous. The eldest son will prepare his response immediately.”

I answered shortly.

“Then we add more measures as quickly as possible.”

The lawyer immediately spoke.

“I’ll submit an additional asset-preservation application today. Since there’s a high possibility of concealment, the court should accept it.”

“Good. Add the hospital documents at the same time. We also need to verify his health at the time the inheritance opened and the biological relationship.”

Kim Dong-su nodded.

“Taesan, once the DNA test result from Japan arrives, the entire situation will change.”

I answered firmly.

“Yes. The moment that result throws doubt on whether the eldest son is actually the father’s biological child, this fight changes completely.”

My gaze was steady.

That afternoon, the documents from the filing office went into my bag one by one.

Their weight pressed against my shoulder.

But that weight was also the power that moved judgments.

I accepted it instead of avoiding it.

I stood and met the lawyer’s eyes.

“This officially began today. We take this fight all the way.”

The lawyer answered firmly.

“Yes. We’ll win.”

Kim Dong-su nodded strongly.

“Taesan, I’ll stay with you until the end. Give me anything that needs to be done.”

I smiled softly.

“Uncle, you only need to move with me until this case ends. I’ll take responsibility for everything after that.”

Kim Dong-su watched me for a moment.

Then nodded.

“Understood. I’ll help until the end.”

The moment we returned to the office, the lawyer called again.

“Client, the eldest son’s side just filed a counterclaim. They’re putting the validity of the will at the center of their argument.”

I answered briefly.

“Good. Exactly as expected. We respond through procedure and evidence. Don’t waver.”

“Yes. I’ll begin preparing immediately.”

After ending the call, I looked out the window.

The city lights spread coldly through the darkness.

This fight wasn’t about emotion.

It was about procedure.

Judgments weren’t made from rumors.

They were proven through documents and evidence.

And until this was over...

Kim Dong-su would move with me.

A large banner featuring Lin’s photograph was spread across the room.

The two former street thugs, Jang Do-chan and Jo Gyeong-cheol, held it while laughing together.

“Hyungnim, where should we hang this so people notice it best?”

“Country bus stops are perfect. All the grandmothers gather there every morning.”

When I had first met them, both men had looked rough and crude.

Now even their speech had become cleaner.

They wore suits.

Their hair was neatly combed.

Their shoes were polished.

Their appearance had changed.

But their playful personalities remained.

I watched them and laughed inwardly.

They’re noisy, but both have Trustworthiness above ninety percent.

They had debt, but they paid it to the end.

They kept their promises.

That’s why I hired them.

That afternoon, the two men loaded the banners into the car and headed toward rural areas outside the capital.

They hung photographs of beautiful Vietnamese Lin at village entrances.

Under bridges.

Even on old wooden utility poles.

She wore a white ao dai and smiled brightly.

Large writing appeared beneath her picture.

The next morning, the two began traveling from village to village handing out business cards.

One side showed Lin’s photograph.

The other showed the office telephone number.

“Grandma, if you have an unmarried son, make sure he sees this. This lady is our Vietnamese manager. She’s kind and hardworking.”

Jang Do-chan bowed and handed over the card.

The old woman widened her eyes.

“My goodness, she’s so pretty. My son is almost forty and still hasn’t married.”

Jo Gyeong-cheol immediately joined in.

“Then she’s perfect. Meeting someone like our manager would be a blessing. Please show the card to your son.”

The old woman tightly held the card with both hands.

“Yes, yes. You boys seem trustworthy.”

There was genuine hope in her eyes.

The two visited house after house.

They greeted grandmothers catching chickens in their yards.

They even visited old women pulling weeds beside the rice fields.

“Grandma, if your son or grandson still isn’t married, we’ll take responsibility. Just keep this business card.”

“Oh dear. Everyone scams people these days. But you boys speak so politely.”

Jang Do-chan slapped his chest jokingly.

“We hate scams more than anything. We left that kind of life behind!”

Jo Gyeong-cheol laughed and added,

“That’s right. We’re new men now. Look at this photo of beautiful Vietnamese Manager Lin. Could something this bright possibly be fake?”

Their ridiculous sales talk made the grandmothers burst into laughter.

The business cards disappeared one by one into shopping bags and wallets.

By evening, they hung the final banner near a country marketplace.

Lin’s bright smile seemed to illuminate the entire market.

People walking past stopped and looked up.

Jang Do-chan wiped away his sweat.

“Hyungnim, this business is going to work.”

Jo Gyeong-cheol nodded.

“Yes. Just today, grandmothers took dozens of cards. Calls will start pouring in tomorrow.”

The two looked at each other and burst into laughter.

In the past, they would have spent their nights drinking and gambling.

Now they were running around with business cards and banners.

The change was almost unbelievable.

Their laughter carried the satisfaction of honest sweat.

When they returned to the office, I smiled.

“You worked hard. Having both of you here makes things much easier.”

Jang Do-chan scratched his head.

“Hyungnim, we’re the grateful ones. You giving us work like this gave us a new life. Today was the first time I greeted people honestly.”

Jo Gyeong-cheol nodded.

“Yes. We don’t need to deceive people anymore. We’ll work hard and live while smiling.”

I checked their eyes.

They weren’t lying.

Numbers appeared in my mind.

[Jang Do-chan]

Trustworthiness: 92%

[Jo Gyeong-cheol]

Trustworthiness: 91%

Those numbers said everything.

I smiled and nodded.

“I’ll keep trusting you. But never look back.”

The two bowed deeply at the same time.

Their playful attitudes remained.

But their sincerity was real.

That night, the sign beside the Yeongdeungpo building lit up brightly.

Lin’s photograph shone in the center.

Beneath that sign was the sweat of two men who had just begun new lives.

I slowly smiled while looking out the window.

At that moment...

I felt that something built on people and trust was beginning to gain real strength.

***

Seoul, Yeongdeungpo.

The lawyer’s office.

We were in the middle of a meeting about the preparatory brief.

The lawyer pointed to legal provisions.

“Client, there are two key issues. The total inherited assets and the proportion that violated the reserved share. We need to include assets transferred through lifetime gifts or advance inheritance too.”

I immediately responded.

“We expose everything through property disclosure and factual inquiries.”

My voice was short.

But confident.

The lawyer turned a page and nodded.

“Yes. Banks, judicial scriveners, and the tax office. Those are the three pillars.”

I tapped the desk.

“From the banks, obtain deposits, loans, and collateral lists. From the judicial scriveners, obtain issuance and registration histories. From the tax office, obtain all gift-tax filings.”

“Yes, client.”

The lawyer turned on the laptop and wrote the first line of the preparatory brief.

[The plaintiff, as a statutory heir of the decedent, claims return of the reserved inheritance share.]

The bold words appeared on the screen.

Uncle Kim Dong-su carefully asked,

“Taesan, when will the hearing date be set?”

The lawyer looked toward him and flipped through his calendar.

“The preparatory hearing should be within three weeks. Before then, the asset-disclosure order will be served. If the other side omits assets, there can be penalties. If they make false statements, it can become a criminal matter.”

“Good.”

I put down my pen.

“One more thing before then. The eldest son may try to interfere with the hospital records. Add another preservation order.”

The lawyer immediately answered.

“I already filed it. We secured a statement from the hospital director, and the electronic records are being separately preserved.”

The air in the conference room was heavy.

Case files with case numbers were stacked across the table.

Case-law books were covered with highlighted provisions and check marks.

Tension showed on everyone’s face.

Kim So-jeong organized the evidence.

“The other side has three ways out. Validity of the will, concealment of gifts, and underreporting of assets. If we block those three, we have a strong chance.”

I nodded briefly.

“Good. Find procedural defects in the will. And pressure the concealed gifts and reduced asset reports with evidence.”

The lawyer opened a case-law book.

“There was a similar case in the past. The defendant hid gifts, but tax-office records exposed them in the end. We can take the same approach.”

I gave a firm instruction.

“Send the factual inquiry to the tax office. Check all gift-tax records for the last ten years. Don’t miss anything.”

“Yes, client. I’ll organize it immediately.”

Silence followed.

Only the sound of pens scratching across paper filled the conference room.

I organized my thoughts.

“The other side will hide information. They’ll move money between accounts, delay property-registry submissions, and slow down tax-office responses. Those are all predictable moves.”

Kim So-jeong nodded.

“Yes. But banking and tax records eventually remain. Even if it takes time, we can obtain them.”

I answered briefly.

“That’s why we endure with two things: time and evidence.”

My expression remained calm.

But heavy pressure was building inside me.

Near the end of the meeting, the lawyer pushed a file toward me.

“Client, this is the first preparatory brief. I’ll submit it to court today.”

I opened it.

The first page had large letters.

[Claim for Return of Reserved Inheritance Share]

My fingertips trembled heavily.

The days of fighting with words were over.

Now it was a war of paper and official seals.

I took a deep breath.

Then spoke shortly.

“Good. Submit it.”

The lawyer bowed.

“Yes.”

After the meeting ended, Uncle Kim Dong-su called me.

“Taesan, what if the other side keeps moving the assets away?”

I answered gently but firmly.

“Then we move into criminal procedure. Concealment is a crime. Account tracing and tax records will become evidence.”

Kim Dong-su’s expression became heavy.

“So this really is becoming an unavoidable fight.”

“Yes. But the board is already set. All that remains is evidence and procedure.”

I put the case file into my bag.

The weight of the papers pressed against my shoulder.

But that weight would eventually become the force behind victory.

I accepted it without hesitation.
