Chapter 14

Chapter 014: Suspicion (3)

Hearing Min-jeong's words, Chairman Choi smiled gently and shook his head.

"Hahaha. Do you really like Hee-soo that much?"

"Like him?"

"That's an understatement."

"I seriously don't understand why he refuses to notice how I feel."

Yoon-hee now understood exactly what kind of situation she was looking at.

If I publish an article, I'd basically be helping her.

Let's ignore this one.

They're probably going to end up together anyway.

And other media outlets could easily cover this story.

Dobong Fire Station cafeteria.

After completing the shift change, Hee-soo sat at a table eating chicken breast.

Steam was still rising from it as though it had just been heated.

The cafeteria door opened, and Min-ah entered.

She immediately spoke to him.

"You're only eating breakfast now?"

"Yes."

Min-ah sat down across from him.

It was a sudden action, but Hee-soo wasn't surprised.

Min-ah naturally acted this friendly with everyone.

At first, Hee-soo had been extremely cautious around her.

He thought she might have been approaching him because she knew about his family background.

However, that suspicion quickly disappeared.

He had seen her behave exactly the same way with everyone in the station.

"Are you really okay eating nothing but chicken breast?"

"I need to maintain my body."

"You even exercise every morning when you're on night duty."

"It's part of my routine."

"Whether I sleep or not, I start exercising at six in the morning."

"Wow. That's impressive."

Their conversation didn't last long.

Ding-ding, ding-ding.

"Emergency medical dispatch. Emergency medical dispatch."

Min-ah smiled and immediately got up to run.

"Ah, seriously. This was such a good opportunity too."

"Hohoho. Enjoy your breakfast!"

"The young man is receiving proper treatment."

"Huh?! Ah... yes."

"That's good."

Her final words came from outside the cafeteria.

That young man is being treated properly.

A little while earlier, the system had officially registered Yoo Min-hyuk as one of the people Hee-soo had saved.

His lifespan had increased by another day.

Watching Min-ah run away energetically, Hee-soo couldn't help smiling slightly.

"She's full of energy."

After finishing his meal, Hee-soo roughly packed up the empty container and returned to the office.

Nobody was there.

When there was no training or paperwork to complete, most of the firefighters spent their time in the fitness room.

Hee-soo began studying building blueprints from around the district.

There are far too many accident risks.

Then he shook his head.

But if there are no accidents... I'll die.

"Haah..."

The thought immediately made him feel miserable.

What the hell am I wishing for?

Maybe the lack of sleep is starting to affect my thinking.

This constant conflict between two opposing emotions created a cognitive dissonance that Hee-soo still couldn't resolve.

He stretched and adjusted his posture at the desk.

"Enough useless thoughts."

"Today, I need to match location data, victim data, and building layouts."

He was about to place his hands on the keyboard when he heard a commotion downstairs.

"What is that?"

"Someone filing a complaint?"

The fire suppression team's office on the first floor occasionally became noisy because of angry civilians.

Unable to concentrate because of the shouting, Hee-soo went downstairs.

There, he saw a fat man in his fifties covered from head to toe in expensive designer clothes.

Behind him stood five large men in black suits with threatening expressions.

The middle-aged man was shouting furiously.

"YOU BASTARDS! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!"

"HOW DARE YOU REPORT ME!"

"DO YOU NEED SOMEONE TO FILE COMPLAINTS AGAINST THIS ENTIRE FIRE STATION BEFORE YOU LEARN YOUR LESSON?!"

"LOOK AT THAT SCRATCH ON MY CAR!"

"YOU PEOPLE DID THAT, DIDN'T YOU?!"

"DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH THAT CAR COSTS?!"

The fire suppression team members were struggling to deal with him.

"Sir, what exactly are you talking about?"

"We don't know anything about that car."

Hee-soo quickly looked out the window.

That Hentley?

Yeah.

That's definitely the car that blocked our dispatch route last time.

He clearly remembered the license plate.

Seeing the man causing trouble inside the fire station made anger rise inside Hee-soo.

When the suppression team captain noticed him, he gestured with his hand, telling Hee-soo to return upstairs.

"Just go back up."

"We'll handle this."

"This isn't the first time we've dealt with something like this."

However, there was no chance Hee-soo would listen.

"I can't do that."

"You expect me to see something like this and simply walk away?"

"If I did that, I wouldn't be Choi Hee-soo of Suseong."

He walked downstairs and stood directly in front of the man.

The man looked barely 170 centimeters tall.

Standing in front of the much taller Hee-soo, he was clearly intimidated.

"W-what the hell are you?!"

"I'm a firefighter."

"Are you the bastard driving that car?"

"And are those idiots behind you your little gang?"

"So what if they are?!"

Hee-soo glanced toward the Hentley.

"That car is far too good for someone as low-class as you."

"If the craftsmen who built it knew someone like you was sitting inside, they'd probably beat their heads against the ground in despair."

The man's eyes widened.

His anger seemed to rise all the way to the top of his head in real time.

It was at that moment that Yoon-hee arrived at the fire station.

Hee-soo was too focused to look toward her.

However, he still noticed her arrival.

When Yoon-hee saw Hee-soo facing a group of obvious troublemakers, excitement immediately appeared on her face.

She turned toward Photographer Jang.

"Senior, hurry up and take pictures."

"This looks interesting."

Jang Deok-su already had his camera pointed toward them.

"Of course."

"I love this kind of thing too."

As the middle-aged man became more aggressive, the five men behind him stepped forward.

"What the hell?"

"Is a firefighter allowed to attack civilians now?"

"When did I attack anyone?"

"Do you have evidence?"

"If you think I did something illegal, file a proper lawsuit."

The largest man reached out to grab Hee-soo by the collar.

Before his hand could touch Hee-soo's chest, Hee-soo slapped it aside.

The man staggered from the force.

Hee-soo pointed around the room.

"There's a CCTV camera over there."

"And those reporters are filming everything."

"We can identify every single one of you."

"The moment you grab me, this becomes a completely different matter."

"I've warned you."

The man who had staggered backward turned red with anger.

He rushed toward Hee-soo.

"You bastard!"

He reached out again, trying to grab Hee-soo's collar.

Hee-soo lightly pulled on the man's arm.

As the man's body lost balance and moved forward, Hee-soo stepped slightly out of the way and twisted the man's wrist.

Unable to control his body, the man fell backward.

Embarrassed by how badly he had fallen, he immediately jumped back to his feet.

His right fist shot toward Hee-soo's face.

Everyone in the suppression team's office gasped in shock.

"Ah!"

However, the punch hit nothing but air.

Hee-soo pushed the incoming fist sideways and strongly pulled on the man's arm.

This time, the man crashed face-first onto the floor even more pathetically than before.

Hee-soo gave him a cold smile.

"You can't even control your own body."

"And you're trying to throw punches?"

Seeing this, the remaining five men rushed toward Hee-soo.

He immediately backed away.

"I'm warning you."

"What you're about to do is extremely stupid."

"Don't do something you'll regret."

"I'll forgive you if you stop here."

"What the hell are you talking about?!"

"GET THAT BASTARD!"

Avoiding the men rushing toward him, Hee-soo quickly moved outside.

"Don't cause a disturbance inside the fire station."

"Come outside."

"I'll deal with you there."

Yoon-hee and Photographer Jang followed them outside.

Jang Deok-su's eyes were sparkling.

"Whoa. This is great!"

"I didn't know Choi Hee-soo could move like that."

"I thought the strongest chaebol heir in the country would be some sheltered rich boy."

"He's impressive."

He followed them outside with high expectations.

The moment he stepped outside, however, his excitement disappeared.

Chief Jang was already standing there with ten bodyguards.

The men who had followed Hee-soo outside instantly froze.

Yoon-hee and Jang quickly moved to a safer location.

Yoon-hee couldn't help being impressed.

"Wow. Our Director Choi even brings bodyguards when he comes to work at the fire station."

"Well, that makes sense."

"He's eventually going to become the owner of Suseong."

"Still, this should be interesting."

"Let's watch."

However, Photographer Jang looked disappointed.

"I wanted to see Director Choi flying around beating people up."

"There's no fight if this happens."

Chief Jang immediately ordered the bodyguards,

"Do not allow them to come within a single step of the director."

"Keep them here until the police arrive."

"Avoid unnecessary physical contact as much as possible."

The moment he finished speaking, the bodyguards surrounded the threatening men.

The middle-aged man who had brought them looked completely overwhelmed.

He shouted toward Hee-soo.

"Who... who the hell are you?!"

Hee-soo laughed at him.

"How many times do I have to tell you?"

"I'm a firefighter."

No violence occurred.

The middle-aged man and the thugs he had brought clearly had no intention of continuing once they saw the bodyguards.

Seeing them subdued so easily, Yoon-hee immediately lost interest too.

"Ah, what is this?"

"These fat thugs don't even have the courage to fight back?"

"They're all completely frozen."

"I told you this would happen."

"They're badly outnumbered."

Hee-soo turned toward Chief Jang.

"Give me a crowbar."

"Here."

Chief Jang handed him one.

Hee-soo rested it on his shoulder and looked toward the middle-aged man.

"No matter how I look at it, that car is wasted on you."

"You said someone scratched your car?"

"Where?"

His voice was polite.

However, standing there with a crowbar over his shoulder made him look terrifying.

The man was already intimidated, but he forced himself to act aggressively.

"W-what are you planning to do?"

"I can't find the scratch."

"My eyesight is usually excellent."

Hee-soo stared directly at him.

The man was too frightened to approach.

Chief Jang quietly spoke.

"Hee-soo. I'll handle this."

"Ah. Will you?"

"Yes. Go inside and work."

Hee-soo immediately gave Chief Jang a warm smile and bowed slightly.

"All right."

"Then I'll leave this to you."

"Please take care of it."

"Sure."

Chief Jang took the crowbar from Hee-soo and walked toward the man.

When he stood beside Hee-soo, his size wasn't especially noticeable.

However, now that he stood alone, his large body and intimidating expression became obvious.

He approached the man.

"Is this your vehicle?"

"Y-yes."

"Yes, it is..."

Chief Jang held out the crowbar.

"Use this crowbar to point out exactly where the scratch is."

"What?"

"No. I mean..."

"You need to point it out clearly."

Overwhelmed by Chief Jang's presence, the man cautiously approached to take the crowbar.

When the crowbar moved slightly in Chief Jang's hand, the man flinched in fear.

Chief Jang gave him a fierce look.

"Don't be afraid."

"I'm not going to hit you."

"Where is the scratch?"

"Point to it with this."

Chief Jang handed him the crowbar.

The man now had the eyes of a frightened deer.

He spoke in a pleading voice.

"N-no."

"I mean..."

"I think I might have been mistaken."

"Mistaken?"

Chief Jang's expression darkened.

"You made a mistake, so you brought these gangster bastards to a fire station and caused a disturbance?"

"What?"

"N-no, that's not..."

Chief Jang pressed him harder.

"Then hurry up and point to the exact location!"

With trembling hands, the man used the crowbar to point toward the Hentley's door.

Chief Jang shouted furiously.

"POINT TO IT PROPERLY!"

"WHERE IS IT?!"

"IS IT HERE?!"
