Chapter 015: Suspicion (4)
Chief Jang grabbed the man's hand and pushed it toward the door.
Under the force of his hand, the crowbar scraped across the vehicle.
It didn't merely scratch the door.
The force was strong enough to dent it.
"Ugh!"
A huge scratch appeared across the Hentley's door.
The man was so shocked that he immediately dropped the crowbar.
Looking at the deeply damaged door, Chief Jang calmly said,
"I don't see any scratch except the one you just made."
"Do you?"
Then he looked toward Yoon-hee.
"Reporter Jo, can you see any other damage?"
Yoon-hee shook her head with a completely innocent expression.
"No."
"I don't see anything except the part that man just scratched himself."
"Hohoho."
"Right?"
Photographer Jang stared at the two of them in disbelief.
"What the hell?"
"You two are working perfectly together now."
Yoon-hee turned toward him.
"Did you take pictures?"
"Of course."
"Show me."
Photographer Jang showed her the photographs.
"Keep this one and this one."
"Delete everything else."
"What?"
"What did you just say?"
"That'll make Chief Jang's explanation much clearer."
Photographer Jang narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
"What is this?"
"Are you taking the chaebol's side now too?"
Yoon-hee shrugged.
"I think that's better than taking the side of some gangster bastard."
The sound of police sirens came from outside.
They grew steadily louder.
Soon, around seven police vans entered the parking lot of Dobong Fire Station.
The moment the police vehicles appeared, the middle-aged man's confidence returned.
"You bastard!"
"How dare you bully an innocent citizen!"
"You're dead now!"
A large group of detectives rushed out of the vehicles.
The middle-aged man recognized one of them and desperately called out.
"Detective Jung!"
"It's me!"
"It's me, Do Shin-young!"
However, the detective he called didn't even acknowledge him.
Instead, he walked directly toward the bodyguards.
The man became excited.
"You're all dead."
"How dare you attack someone in broad daylight?"
However, the detectives immediately took custody of the threatening men from the bodyguards and handcuffed them.
After informing them of their Miranda rights, the officers placed them directly into the police vans.
The middle-aged man's eyes nearly popped out of his head.
He could only stare blankly.
"D-Detective Jung?"
"What the hell are you doing?"
Another sedan arrived behind the police vans.
A uniformed police officer stepped out.
Every officer present immediately saluted him.
He was the chief of Dobong Police Station.
The police chief walked toward Chief Jang.
"Oh, Chief Jang Seung-tae."
"What exactly happened here?"
"We received the report and came immediately."
Hearing all the police sirens, the chief of Dobong Fire Station also came downstairs.
When he saw the chaotic parking lot, he could hardly believe his eyes.
"What in the world happened here?"
Chief Jang quietly confronted the police chief.
"How can you allow malicious complainants like these people to come into a fire station and behave like this?"
The police chief immediately turned pale.
"Chief Jang, what exactly happened?"
"I haven't received any report about this situation."
Chief Jang answered in a calm, controlled voice.
"These men stormed into the fire station."
"They brought a car they damaged themselves and began making accusations that our firefighters had scratched it."
"My goodness."
"What kind of criminals are these?"
"We'll arrest every one of them."
"Arresting them is obvious."
Chief Jang's voice remained calm.
"What I want to know is how you intend to handle the matter afterward."
"I'm considering making this a very large public issue."
"Because of these men, Director Choi nearly suffered serious harm."
"Reporter Jo over there recorded everything."
The police chief's face turned pale.
"I-is that really true?"
When Hee-soo had first been assigned to Dobong Fire Station, the National Police Commissioner had personally visited Dobong Police Station and repeatedly instructed them to make sure nothing happened to him.
Chief Jang looked toward Yoon-hee.
Yoon-hee spoke proudly.
"Just say the word."
"We recorded everything from the moment those men entered the station and started causing trouble."
Photographer Jang nodded.
"Everything is captured on my camera."
The police chief became increasingly nervous.
He almost pleaded with Chief Jang.
"Make it a large public issue?"
"W-what exactly do you mean by that?"
Before Chief Jang could answer, Yoon-hee approached.
"Hello."
"I'm Jo Yoon-hee, a business reporter from Samhan Ilbo."
Only then did the police chief fully understand Chief Jang's warning.
His expression became even more troubled.
"Oh, Chief Jang."
"Why make this situation so big?"
"They're simply malicious complainants."
"We'll make sure this never happens again."
This time, Yoon-hee answered instead of Chief Jang.
"Whether Suseong decides to cover this up is Suseong's decision."
"But whether this becomes a public issue is my decision."
"That's completely separate from Suseong's wishes."
The police chief could feel the situation becoming increasingly complicated.
Yoon-hee continued.
"Also, a moment ago, that man named Do Shin-young seemed to recognize one of your detectives."
"Senior Jang, you photographed that too, right?"
"Of course."
"I don't miss things like that."
Yoon-hee smiled.
"That scene certainly looked like there could be some kind of connection between Do Shin-young and the police."
The police chief's face changed from red to gray.
"No!"
"How can you say something like that, Reporter Jo?"
"Our officers work day and night for the safety of our citizens..."
Chief Jang folded his arms and watched for a moment.
Then he spoke.
"It seems our police chief would prefer to bury this matter."
"Reporter Jo."
"Please use your full ability and attract as much public attention as possible."
"Suseong will support you."
Yoon-hee frowned sharply.
"What did you just say?"
"Attract public attention?"
"Aren't journalists the best people when it comes to attracting attention?"
"I was simply asking you to use your specialty."
While listening to the conversation, the middle-aged man's eyes suddenly widened.
He turned toward the detective holding him.
"Suseong?"
"Wait."
"Was that man earlier from Suseong?"
"Yes."
The detective looked at him coldly.
"That was Director Choi Hee-soo of Suseong Electronics' Strategic Planning Division."
"You picked a fight with someone you absolutely should not have touched."
The man's face went white.
He immediately began saying whatever came to mind.
"Ah."
"I, um, I suddenly remembered something urgent..."
"No."
"I mean, I have a medical condition..."
He desperately wanted to leave.
However, that was impossible.
Two detectives were already holding his arms.
One detective looked toward the police chief.
"Chief, what should we do with this man?"
"What do you mean?"
"Arrest him immediately. We caught him in the act!"
The two detectives informed him of his Miranda rights and immediately began taking him toward a police vehicle.
Suddenly, sweat began pouring from the man's body.
His face turned completely white.
He looked toward the detective dragging him away.
"W-wait."
"C-can I go to a hospital?"
"Stop talking nonsense."
"Get in the car."
"Do you seriously think you can use some little trick to escape after everything that happened?"
Still sweating heavily, the man was dragged toward the vehicle.
Seeing that the situation was finally coming to an end, the chief of Dobong Fire Station spoke to Chief Jang.
"It would probably be better not to make such a big issue out of this."
Chief Jang shook his head.
"Things like this need to become big issues."
"That's the only way to make sure they don't happen again."
"Dobong Fire Station might become noisy for a while, but after this, at least malicious complainants like these people will think twice before coming here."
The fire chief let out a sigh.
He couldn't really argue.
Malicious complainants sometimes interfered with emergency dispatches, so dealing with the problem firmly was certainly the right thing to do.
However, while Hee-soo was assigned to his station, the fire chief didn't want unnecessary attention or trouble.
Hee-soo had been forced into the station by people above him, so the fire chief wasn't particularly happy about having him there in the first place.
At that moment, the door of the vehicle carrying President Do suddenly flew open.
At the exact same time, Hee-soo burst out of the fire station entrance.
One detective began pulling President Do back out of the vehicle.
He looked panicked.
"T-this man is acting strange!"
The police chief immediately became angry.
"What do you mean he's acting strange?"
Just as the police chief started shouting, Hee-soo rushed past him like the wind and began helping pull the man out of the vehicle.
Seeing that, the police chief went pale and hurriedly tried to stop him.
"D-Director Choi!"
"Y-you can't do that!"
Despite how suddenly everything happened, Photographer Jang didn't miss the scene.
He immediately captured it with his camera.
Yoon-hee stared blankly, unable to understand what was happening.
"Huh?"
"What?"
She was too shocked to say anything more.
Hee-soo's face was twisted with urgency.
As he pulled the man from the vehicle, the detectives beside him didn't try to stop him.
Instead, they helped him.
The police chief shouted furiously.
"WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE DOING?!"
"STOP HIM!"
Hee-soo shouted toward the detective beside him.
"QUICKLY!"
"TAKE OFF THE HANDCUFFS!"
"Y-yes!"
The detective even unlocked the handcuffs around the man's wrists.
The police chief stared at the scene as though his mind had stopped working.
The moment President Do was laid flat on the ground, Hee-soo began chest compressions.
Everyone who had been rushing toward Hee-soo to stop him immediately froze.
Only three people around President Do continued moving.
In the sudden silence, the only sounds were the repeated compressions of CPR and the clicking of a camera shutter.
After a brief moment of confusion, the fire chief finally understood what was happening.
He immediately shouted for the emergency medical team.
"PARAMEDICS!"
"WHERE ARE THE PARAMEDICS?!"
"BRING THE DEFIBRILLATOR!"
"HURRY!"
The emergency medical team rushed over with a defibrillator.
While Hee-soo continued performing chest compressions, two paramedics attached the defibrillator pads to President Do's body.
Another paramedic began assisting with ventilation.
After the defibrillator delivered a shock, Hee-soo immediately resumed chest compressions.
Another firefighter stood beside him, ready to take over.
However, Hee-soo seemed unable to see anything except the patient in front of him.
Yoon-hee and Photographer Jang captured every second of the scene.
After five minutes of continuous CPR, President Do's heart finally began beating again.
Completely exhausted, Hee-soo shook his head and collapsed into a sitting position beside him.
"Haah."
"You really are a troublesome bastard."
"Take him to the hospital now."
The moment Hee-soo removed his hands, President Do was loaded into an ambulance and transported to the hospital.
Everyone around them could only stare blankly at everything that had happened within those seven short minutes.
After putting everything he had into the CPR, Hee-soo remained sitting on the ground for about a minute.
He watched the ambulance leave the parking lot.
Then he slowly forced himself to his feet.
Shaking his head, he walked back inside Dobong Fire Station.
Seven minutes earlier.
Hee-soo had returned to the office and was about to resume his work when a chilling notification suddenly sounded from his phone.
What is this?
A large notification had appeared against a red background.
[1 Person in Need of Rescue Detected]
He checked the location.
It was directly in front of him.
Hee-soo immediately ran toward it.
Did a fight break out while I was upstairs?
What happened?
Did someone get stabbed?
All kinds of possibilities raced through his mind.
It didn't take long to find the answer.
The moment Hee-soo opened the office door, he saw the door of the police vehicle carrying President Do suddenly open.
There.
Hee-soo rushed past the confused police chief and headed straight toward the vehicle.
Inside, frantic detectives were surrounding President Do.
His eyes had rolled back until only the whites were visible, and foam was coming from his mouth.
Hee-soo immediately realized what the notification meant.
So you're my extra day.
You bastard.
Hee-soo roughly dragged the man out of the back seat.
Then he shouted,
"QUICKLY!"
"TAKE OFF THE HANDCUFFS!"
End of Chapter 015.
