Chapter 20

Chapter 20

“That food-supply mart you recently secured. Can you put your material up beside this for comparison?”

At CEO Jeong's words, I immediately stood.

The food-supply mart contract I had reported to Manager Kwon.

Only three people in this room knew about it.

Me.

Manager Kwon.

And CEO Jeong.

Employees needed to know which clients belonged to which salesperson.

That prevented us from accidentally approaching someone else's account.

But brand-new contracts were different.

Unless they were announced in a weekly meeting like this, other employees often did not know about them yet.

The moment I secured the contract for the largest food-supply mart in Honam, I immediately reported it to Manager Kwon.

He then reported it directly to CEO Jeong.

Of course, upper management had probably already heard about it when I requested the unusually low supply prices.

Outside of the people involved in that approval...

No one knew.

The client Lee Sejun had just proudly announced was a food-supply mart in Damyang, Jeollanam-do.

It was a new account, so no one knew exactly how much sales it would generate.

But just based on scale...

It was not a large business.

It was basically a neighborhood mart.

Of course, actual sales could always surprise you.

But after several years in the food industry, I could judge this much.

Its location was not strong.

There were not many businesses around it.

There was not much foot traffic either.

The store was somewhat far from nearby homes and apartments.

In comparison...

The food-supply mart I had secured had almost every condition needed for strong sales.

It was also somewhat distant from residential areas.

But it was enormous.

So enormous that it was being advertised as the largest food-supply mart in Honam.

Even people living farther away would likely visit because of its scale.

And because the store itself was huge, it would naturally carry a much wider range of products.

Just from briefly looking at Lee Sejun's numbers...

I had already won this comparison.

CEO Jeong seemed to want everyone else to see that too.

I walked to the front beside Lee Sejun.

Then I opened my prepared material next to his.

“I'll begin with the food-supply mart contract you mentioned, CEO Jeong.”

I skipped through the earlier pages about last week's routine sales report.

Lee Sejun glanced sideways at me.

That look alone seemed to reveal what he was thinking.

Did he really secure something better than mine?

He was clearly cautious.

But at the same time, because he had always believed himself superior to me, there was still a dismissive arrogance in his expression.

I ignored him and cleared my throat.

“This is the food-supply mart account I secured last week.”

At the words food-supply mart, Lee Sejun was not the only person who focused.

Manager Jang Woojin, sitting farther back with his arms crossed, also leaned forward.

“The store is scheduled to open on September 1st.”

I displayed photos of the construction site.

“It will be the largest food-supply mart in Honam.”

I then displayed the contract details and product list.

The employees immediately reacted.

“Donggil-ro...? A food-supply mart is opening there?”

“I've driven past that place before. It just looked like a construction site.”

“How did Assistant Manager Choi even find out about that?”

“Wow. His performance has been crazy lately.”

“Assistant Manager Choi, the largest in Honam?”

Employees from junior staff to assistant managers and managers began commenting.

Only two people looked completely frozen.

No.

More accurately...

Two people looked openly upset.

Lee Sejun.

And Manager Jang Woojin.

Neither of them had known.

Their faces turned red.

Especially Lee Sejun.

He forced a smile and whispered through barely moving lips.

“How did you secure that account?”

I answered without hesitation.

“Why are you asking a salesperson how he sold something?”

I smiled.

“I worked hard.”

“Didn't you work hard for your Damyang food-supply mart too?”

We spoke quietly enough that only the two of us could hear.

CEO Jeong, unaware of our exchange, smiled proudly.

“I'm really proud seeing two of our top assistant managers bringing in food-supply mart contracts side by side.”

“Thank you.”

“Especially Assistant Manager Choi. Not just an ordinary mart or some typical account... How did you even find information like this?”

CEO Jeong stood and pointed toward the screen in amazement.

The employees listened as he continued praising the contract.

“Seeing our people work this hard gives me strength.”

He walked over and patted my shoulder.

“Let's finish the rest of the meeting properly too. Everyone, keep pushing this week.”

“Yes, CEO!”

CEO Jeong raised a hand and left the room.

He did not regularly attend weekly meetings.

Whenever he did, he often left before everyone else.

The moment he left the meeting room and disappeared from the office...

The employees immediately began talking.

Most of them were talking about me.

“Assistant Manager Choi, how the hell did you pull off that food-supply mart?”

“This is insane. Your performance has been amazing lately.”

“Assistant Manager Choi might actually finish the quarter with the highest sales.”

Im Sanghyeon naturally joined in.

“As expected of my coworker!”

The room became noisy.

Manager Jang Woojin clearly disliked the atmosphere.

Tap, tap!

He struck the table with a file.

The noise stopped immediately.

He lifted his chin.

“Assistant Manager Lee was still presenting, but the CEO changed the order and everything got mixed up.”

“Assistant Manager Lee, continue.”

“Ah, yes!”

Lee Sejun nodded and closed my file on the screen.

Manager Jang looked at him.

“Weren't you basically finished?”

Lee Sejun awkwardly glanced between Manager Jang and Manager Kwon.

Even without seeing the next slide, I could tell.

He was flustered.

“Ah... yes. I'm almost finished. I just wanted to show the product list and prices for the Damyang food-supply mart.”

Manager Kwon raised his eyebrows.

“Then show that page and let's move on to Assistant Manager Choi.”

“We've already spent too much time in meetings today.”

“Everyone needs to finish and get back out to their sales work.”

“...Yes.”

Manager Jang clicked his tongue.

“This is our weekly meeting. Spending the morning in a meeting isn't that strange. Manager Kwon is always too strict about time.”

“We already had the instant rice meeting too. We've been here long enough. Let's finish quickly.”

A faint tension formed between Manager Kwon and Manager Jang.

I noticed it and quickly turned toward Lee Sejun.

“Why don't you show the last page and finish?”

He glared at me and moved to the final slide.

“Ahem. I'll finish with the last item.”

“These are the products under contract with the client. We adjusted the supply prices before finalizing the contract.”

“This week, I plan to manage my existing clients and increase the number of products supplied to the Damyang food-supply mart.”

Manager Jang waved his hand.

“Good. The more products you get in there, the better the sales. Good work.”

Manager Kwon also nodded.

“Good work.”

“Thank you.”

Lee Sejun bowed and returned to his seat.

But I was no longer looking at him.

My eyes were fixed on the monitor.

Does that price make any sense?

The prices listed for the Damyang food-supply mart...

Were so strange that I could not understand them.

“Sanghyeon, did you see that?”

I leaned against the rooftop railing and asked Im Sanghyeon.

He shrugged.

“See what?”

“Assistant Manager Lee.”

“Lee Sejun?”

“Yeah. During the meeting...”

Before I could finish, Im Sanghyeon burst out laughing.

“Of course I saw it. Haha.”

“Huh?”

“Lee Sejun thought he'd get praised in front of the CEO just because he secured that little Damyang food-supply mart.”

He laughed harder.

“No wonder he looked so excited all morning.”

“The fact that he was that happy over one little contract is hilarious.”

“I thought you meant something else.”

“This is all thanks to you, Inwoo.”

He put a hand on my shoulder.

“Lee Sejun was about to brag about securing one food-supply mart.”

“Then our Inwoo dropped a much bigger contract on the table.”

“He tucked his tail immediately.”

“Was that really why he looked so excited this morning?”

“Obviously. He looked like he'd been waiting all week just for the weekly meeting.”

“Even if Lee Sejun doesn't work properly, would he really be that excited over one contract?”

“He would.”

Im Sanghyeon shivered dramatically.

“How many accounts has he ever secured with his own ability?”

I ignored that.

“Did you see the last page?”

“What last page?”

“The table Lee Sejun showed at the end.”

“The product list and price sheet for the Damyang mart.”

“Ah. Yeah. But I was too busy watching his face after you crushed him, so I didn't really read it.”

He grinned.

I lightly punched his arm.

“I knew it.”

“So what? Was there something weird?”

“There weren't many products going into the mart.”

“What's wrong with that?”

I shook my head slowly.

“Nothing. The number of products isn't the problem.”

“Because there were so few, I could check every supply price.”

“And?”

I rubbed my chin.

“The prices looked suspicious.”
