Chapter 11

Chapter 11. Great Disaster (2)

Majesty Yoo Jaeha was dumbfounded.

He had never seen anyone avoid disasters in such ridiculous ways before.

And yet...

The impregnable golden tower really had collapsed.

There are countless worldlines where people became unable to use Artifacts because of those things.

And then...

Shhhhhhh!

The letters, memories, and fragments of language that had vanished from people's minds began falling from the sky like fresh snow.

A single ray of light had appeared in the middle of despair.

And standing at the center of it all was Seo Jooheon.

Rulebook trembled violently with frustration.

[...I don't understand!]

[You lost 'records.']

[You lost 'language.']

[You lost 'tools.']

[And yet these insignificant humans are still holding on...]

[Why?!]

Its voice gradually became so distorted that it sounded ready to tear apart.

[Fine.]

[I admit it.]

[The Majesty of this world is rather impressive.]

[I can understand why they wanted to recruit you.]

[And you people still have hope.]

Then its tone changed.

[So...]

Its voice became ice-cold.

[I'll destroy that hope now.]

FLASH!

The sky split apart like lightning.

Pure white characters appeared in the air.

The Eight Trigrams.

Qian.

Kun.

Kan.

Li.

Zhen.

Gen.

Xun.

Dui.

A gigantic wheel of the Eight Trigrams rose into the heavens.

It was a curse related to Fuxi of Chinese mythology.

Fuxi had taught humans writing and the Eight Trigrams.

Through them, humanity gained the ability to divine the future.

In other words...

He gave humans hope in the form of tomorrow.

But this time was different.

The wheel of the Eight Trigrams shone.

The flow of the universe reversed.

A status window appeared.

[Fuxi's Curse has activated.]

[Fourth Curse - Denial of Hope.]

[No one will come to help you.]

[This world can no longer possess hope.]

[Those whose future has been sealed can no longer evolve.]

Jooheon tilted his head.

Nothing seemed to have changed.

“Hope?”

He frowned.

“That's a pretty abstract curse.”

But Majesty Yoo Jaeha's expression changed.

“No.”

He looked genuinely alarmed.

“This one is actually dangerous.”

“Why?”

“Look at what the world has become.”

How had it changed?

Jooheon answered plainly.

“Communications are down.”

“Smartphones, electricity, weapons, and every other human tool are unusable.”

He clicked his tongue.

“We're one step away from an apocalypse where only Artifacts work.”

The only reason everything hadn't already fallen apart was because time had been stopped.

The moment they released the Time Stop, planes could start falling out of the sky all over the world.

Majesty Jaeha nodded.

“Exactly.”

He pointed around them.

“All communications are gone.”

“People can't understand one another.”

“Humanity can't use any of its tools.”

“In other words...”

“This has become a world where only Artifacts can be used.”

He stared directly at Jooheon.

“So tell me.”

“What do you think 'hope' is in a world where only Artifacts work?”

“?”

Majesty Jaeha answered himself.

“You.”

Jooheon's eyes narrowed.

“Without Majesty, Artifacts cannot be used.”

“Majesty is the one who grants permission for people to use Artifacts.”

As if confirming his words, Rulebook laughed.

[Correct!]

[The hope of this world is you, Majesty!]

[In other words...]

[If you die, this world where only Artifacts can be used will become completely helpless.]

[That means extinction.]

[Therefore, from this moment onward...]

[The one who carries hope will be erased.]

A gigantic black hand emerged from the book.

It looked like an enormous arm drenched in ink.

The hand that once wrote records was now coming to erase hope.

Jooheon snorted.

“You're still just a damn book.”

He wasn't completely sure what Rulebook was.

But it was probably some kind of Artifact.

If so...

He only had to dominate it.

But then...

[You're finished.]

What?

Something black grabbed Jooheon's arm.

His entire body froze.

“...?!”

[The 'Protagonist of Hope' will be eliminated, completing the Humanity Extinction Scenario.]

[Extracting the 'Heart of Majesty.']

Rulebook stretched out its hand.

Jooheon's chest split open.

CRACK!

SPLURT!

“Jooheon!”

“Captain!”

His crimson heart slowly rose into the air.

Its light began fading.

[The Heart of 'Hope' has been collected.]

[This world has lost its Majesty.]

[A world without Majesty can no longer use Artifacts.]

Rulebook laughed quietly.

[Rulebook System Notification.]

[The disappearance of Majesty has been confirmed.]

The book began glowing gold.

[Good.]

[Very good!]

[Phew.]

[At least one of the curses worked.]

Rulebook wriggled cheerfully.

But the team members ran toward Jooheon, whose chest now had a massive hole in it.

“Captain!!!”

“Get a healing Artifact!”

“Where's Chloe?!”

Rulebook laughed playfully at their reaction.

[His heart was removed.]

[He cannot survive.]

[You don't even have Majesty anymore.]

[Can you really protect this worldline now?]

Protect?

What the hell was it talking about?

[Did you think the disasters were already over?]

[From now on, trials will periodically occur in World 187487♥]

[Clear a mission and you'll receive rewards.]

[Fail, and additional penalties will be imposed.]

Only then did everyone understand.

The disasters had only just begun.

“What is this, some kind of disaster survival game...?”

Ilya muttered.

Rulebook giggled.

[Then I suppose that makes me the Game Master.]

[How lovely.]

[And you are all my NPCs— GAAAH!!!]

Rope wrapped around Rulebook in fury.

Then slammed it into the ground again and again.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

[What are you doing?!]

[What are you doing?!]

Rulebook screamed.

Then stammered.

[A-Anyway!]

[Stopping even one of the four disasters earns a special reward.]

[This world is amazing!]

[You stopped three disasters, so you'll receive two special privileges—!]

Rope became even angrier.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

[What are you saying?!]

[What are you saying?!]

Rulebook screamed.

[F-Fine!]

[I'll give you three special privileges!]

But none of that mattered to the team.

“...Seo Jooheon...”

“...This is a lie, right?”

“Captain!”

[Rewards will now be distributed.]

[I'll look forward to the next story!]

Rulebook disappeared.

No one spoke.

Ilya clenched his fists.

He had the ability to stop time.

But this was different.

Turning back something that had already happened was outside his authority.

Seol-A couldn't hold back her tears.

Julian pushed up his glasses and turned his head away.

He was clearly trying to hide his expression.

Rope curled up beside Jooheon.

It gently patted his face again and again.

[Master.]

[Master.]

[Master.]

There was no answer.

Jooheon's fingertips were cold.

The hole in his chest didn't close.

Humanity had truly lost its hope.

No.

They had lost their hope.

Then...

“What the hell are you doing, bastard?!”

BOOM!

Everyone's head snapped up at the familiar voice.

Then they screamed.

Seo Jooheon was standing in front of them.

Alive.

Completely unharmed.

“...S-Seo Jooheon?”

“What...?”

Julian stared at him.

Jooheon frowned.

“What do you mean, what?”

“Are you really alive?”

“Are you a ghost?”

“Are you screwing with me?”

Julian stared in disbelief.

“If you're alive...”

He pointed toward the body.

“Then what the hell is that?”

At that moment...

Jooheon's corpse twitched.

Its appearance began warping, like a snake shedding its skin.

Everyone gasped.

It was Yoo Jaeha.

Rope immediately rushed toward its master, asking if he was okay.

But Jooheon walked straight over and grabbed Majesty Yoo Jaeha by the collar.

Right before Rulebook attacked him, Majesty Jaeha had grabbed his arm and trapped him inside some strange space.

It had been a wrapping-cloth Artifact.

Jooheon tore through it and came back out.

Only to find this mess.

“You bastard...”

Jooheon's eyes turned murderous.

“You touched Yoo Jaeha from this world?”

“?!”

That was exactly what had happened.

Majesty Yoo Jaeha had pulled Seo Jooheon out of danger.

Then he transformed the real Yoo Jaeha into Seo Jooheon.

The counterfeit was so perfect that even Divine-Grade Artifacts couldn't tell the difference.

Majesty Jaeha shrugged.

“Counterfeiting.”

He smiled calmly.

“That's my awakened Majesty ability.”

“Don't worry.”

“Those bastards should believe you're dead now.”

Jooheon's eyes became cold.

“So?”

His grip tightened.

“You sacrificed my subordinate just to save me?”

Jaeha sighed.

Then brought something out.

“Relax.”

“He's not dead.”

He paused.

“Not yet.”

“...What?”

“His soul is still here.”

From the wrapping-cloth Artifact...

He pulled out an ordinary cup of instant ramen.

It looked fairly old.

The lid was red.

A warning was printed on it.

[CAUTION: HOT]

Jooheon stared at it, completely speechless.

“...Are you fucking kidding me?”

This was Yoo Jaeha?

He was about to tell him not to talk bullshit when...

[AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!]

The cup ramen screamed.

[HEY, YOU CRAZY BASTARD!]

[HOW COULD YOU PUT ME INSIDE SOMETHING LIKE THIS?!]

[I'M HUMAN!]

[I'M NOT FOOD!!!]

Jooheon's hands trembled as he accepted the cup ramen.

“...What the hell is this?”

“I told you.”

“His soul is alive.”

Majesty Jaeha smiled faintly.

“Don't pour water into it.”

“You might actually cook him.”

Jooheon grabbed his forehead.

Then exploded.

“THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM RIGHT NOW!!!”

“!”

“You dared turn my subordinate into this?!”

Cup-Ramen Jaeha sounded deeply moved.

[Captain...]

Jooheon pointed furiously at the cup.

“And if you're going to turn him into ramen, why the hell did you make him some pathetic mild flavor?!”

He roared.

“Spicy is the only proper flavor!”

Jaeha screamed.

[THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE ANGRY ABOUT?!!!]

(To be continued.)
